Aeroméxico plans three new daily, year-round flights from Mexico City in January 2027. Orange County starts first on January 11, Fort Lauderdale follows on January 14, and Portland begins from Mexico City on January 21. The first Portland departure to Mexico City is scheduled for January 22.

All three routes are on sale. There is one important catch for anyone choosing a tight connection: the public launch timetable and the current reservation timetable differ by several minutes. Treat both as planning snapshots and use the time on the issued ticket for travel.

Illustrated aircraft and three routes from Mexico City to the United States

*Original OpenSim editorial illustration. The unbranded aircraft, map and route arcs are illustrative, not a photograph or a precise navigation chart.*

The practical answer: Aeroméxico plans daily nonstops from MEX to SNA, FLL and PDX on a 166-seat Boeing 737 MAX 8. The opening dates are settled in the announcement, but the minutes have already shifted between public schedules, so check the actual booking before arranging airport transport or a connection.

The current Aeroméxico MEX-SNA, MEX-FLL and MEX-PDX schedule

The October 27 reservation snapshot uses these local times:

FlightRouteFirst dateDepartureArrivalFrequency
AM662Mexico City to Orange CountyJanuary 11, 20279:10 a.m.11:30 a.m.Daily
AM663Orange County to Mexico CityJanuary 11, 20271:00 p.m.6:45 p.m.Daily
AM468Mexico City to Fort LauderdaleJanuary 14, 20279:30 a.m.1:50 p.m.Daily
AM469Fort Lauderdale to Mexico CityJanuary 14, 20273:20 p.m.6:15 p.m.Daily
AM776Mexico City to PortlandJanuary 21, 20274:00 p.m.8:00 p.m.Daily
AM777Portland to Mexico CityJanuary 22, 20279:30 a.m.4:45 p.m.Daily

Those times come from the reservation schedule reported by AeroRoutes. The official launch announcement shows slightly later departures or arrivals on five sectors. Its Orange County return reaches Mexico City at 7:00 p.m., for example, while the reservation snapshot shows 6:45 p.m.

That difference is not a reason to avoid the routes. It is a reason not to build a pickup, dinner reservation or separate-ticket connection around a press-release time. Search the exact date and keep the current itinerary offline.

What the 737 MAX 8 plan includes

Aeroméxico says it will operate each route with a Boeing 737 MAX 8 configured for 166 passengers. The published layout has 16 Premier seats, 18 AM Plus seats and 132 Economy seats. Personal seatback entertainment is planned throughout the cabin.

The airline also says it expects to be the only carrier flying nonstop between Mexico City and each of these three airports when service begins. That claim concerns the city pairs, not every possible Mexico or US routing.

An aircraft substitution can still change the seat map, cabin details or entertainment on an individual flight. Check the operating aircraft attached to the selected date rather than choosing a seat from the announcement alone.

Booking through Aeroméxico or Delta

Tickets are available through Aeroméxico and Delta sales channels. In either channel, read the operating-carrier line. Aeroméxico is scheduled to fly the aircraft even when a Delta flight number appears on the ticket.

Delta's current Aeroméxico partnership page says SkyMiles members can earn and use miles on eligible travel, with program rules applying. That does not establish a universal earning rate, free seat choice or lounge entitlement. Those details depend on the marketed flight, operating carrier, fare and traveler status.

The same page says Delta and Aeroméxico use the same terminal at MEX. That can simplify a connection, but it does not remove immigration, customs, security or baggage steps that apply to the itinerary.

Check bags against the purchased fare

The route announcement does not promise a checked bag with every ticket. Aeroméxico's own route pages warn that the lowest displayed fare may be Basic Economy, with restrictions and possible extra baggage charges.

Compare the fare families before payment. Aeroméxico's current Classic page includes a carry-on and personal item with a combined limit shown as 15 kg, while checked baggage is sold separately for that fare. Other fares can differ. The issued booking is the useful answer for a particular passenger.

Aeroméxico recommends reaching the airport three hours before an international flight when checking baggage. Leave more margin for a separate-ticket connection into MEX because a late first flight, bag delivery and a new check-in cutoff can consume the layover.

At the first airport, ask where the bag is tagged and read the printed destination. Do not infer a through-check from the Aeroméxico-Delta partnership or from both flights appearing in one app.

Arriving at SNA, FLL or PDX from Mexico

Passengers arriving in the United States go through the applicable passport, baggage and customs process at the first US airport. Check the current US Customs and Border Protection guidance for the passport and travel authorization used. An airline ticket is not permission to enter.

At Portland, the airport says international passengers pass passport control, collect checked baggage and continue through customs and agriculture inspection. Travelers ending at PDX then take a short airport shuttle to the terminal's baggage-claim level. PDX says the full process and bus ride commonly take 20 to 90 minutes, with longer processing possible.

John Wayne Airport keeps its current transport choices on one official page. Check the pickup instructions for the chosen taxi, rideshare, bus or rental car instead of assuming every service uses the same curb.

Fort Lauderdale's official transport page lists Broward County Transit Route 1 and free shuttles to the Tri-Rail station. Its shuttle stops are on the arrivals level at three ground-transport areas. The most useful choice depends on whether the trip ends in Fort Lauderdale, Miami or Palm Beach County.

Choose mobile data for this Mexico-US trip

OpenSim's public catalog was checked on October 27. It listed five Mexico eSIM plans, eight United States eSIM plans and seven North America eSIM plans. Starting prices at the check were USD 3.00 for Mexico, USD 1.66 for the United States and USD 4.40 for North America.

A country plan fits a trip that needs data on one side of the route. The North America option covers Mexico, the United States and Canada, so it can avoid switching plans on a Mexico-US itinerary. Check the live coverage, allowance, validity and top-up field before purchase because packages and prices can change.

Mobile data can support airline alerts, airport maps, immigration information and ground transport after landing. It does not provide inflight Wi-Fi, change an entry decision or protect a missed connection. Before buying, check phone compatibility and review when to install an eSIM.

Ten questions about Aeroméxico's new US flights

Are the Orange County, Fort Lauderdale and Portland flights operating now?

No. They are future services scheduled for January 2027. Orange County starts January 11, Fort Lauderdale January 14, Mexico City to Portland January 21, and Portland to Mexico City January 22.

Will Aeroméxico fly all three routes every day?

Yes, the launch announcement describes all three as daily, year-round routes. Individual dates can still be retimed or cancelled, so confirm the chosen flight before travel.

Why are two different schedules published?

The announcement and the later reservation snapshot differ by five to fifteen minutes on several sectors. Airline schedules can be adjusted after a launch release. Use the current booking for planning and the day-of-travel status for departure.

What are AM662, AM468 and AM776?

They are the current flight numbers from Mexico City to Orange County, Fort Lauderdale and Portland, respectively. The returns are AM663, AM469 and AM777. A later schedule change can also alter a flight number.

Can I buy these flights from Delta?

Yes. The airlines say tickets are available through both Aeroméxico and Delta. Check the operating-carrier line, fare conditions and confirmation code before assuming every Delta benefit applies.

Does my Aeroméxico fare include a checked bag?

Not with every fare. Aeroméxico's displayed fares can be restrictive, and its current Classic fare sells checked baggage separately. Read the allowance attached to the selected fare and issued ticket.

Is a short connection at Mexico City safe?

It depends on the inbound route, ticket, baggage path and live gates. Aeroméxico and Delta use the same MEX terminal, but a separate ticket can still require bag collection, a new check-in and another security process. Leave a wider margin when the onward flight is not protected on one itinerary.

Do I collect my bag when I arrive in the United States?

Plan to follow the arrival airport's instructions for passport control, baggage and customs. PDX explicitly directs international arrivals to collect bags before customs. Ask the airline about any onward connection and follow the bag-recheck signs after inspection.

How do I leave SNA, FLL or PDX after arrival?

SNA lists rental cars, taxis, rideshare and public transport on its official page. FLL links to local buses and a shuttle to Tri-Rail. PDX connects its international arrival area with the main terminal, where light rail, taxis, rideshare and rentals are available.

Can one OpenSim eSIM cover Mexico and the United States?

Yes, a current North America plan can cover Mexico, the United States and Canada. A Mexico or United States country plan may cost less when data is needed on only one side. Check the live destination list and package terms before checkout.

A seven-point check for these routes

  • Confirm the airport code: SNA, FLL or PDX.
  • Search the exact date and use the current local times.
  • Check whether Aeroméxico or Delta markets the flight and confirm Aeroméxico as the planned operator.
  • Compare fare-specific baggage, seat and change terms.
  • Leave a realistic margin for MEX or US arrival formalities.
  • Keep the boarding pass, itinerary and destination address available offline.
  • Choose mobile data for every country used on the ground.

Aeroméxico's three routes remove a connection for travelers whose trip starts or ends near Orange County, South Florida or Portland. The useful booking is still the live one: the first public schedules already show why the date, flight number and issued time need one final check.

For separate Caribbean expansion, see the existing guide to Aeroméxico's Mexico City-Nassau and Montego Bay flights.
