British Airways Gatwick-Barbados flights are now operating

British Airways has restarted nonstop flights between London Gatwick and Barbados. The first service arrived at Grantley Adams International Airport on October 25, 2026. The route runs daily and complements BA's existing Heathrow service rather than replacing it.

Gatwick says the service will continue into summer 2027. That is a useful change for travelers who prefer Gatwick, but the exact flight, time and onward routing still need a date-specific check before booking.

*Original AI-generated OpenSim editorial illustration. The unbranded aircraft, airports and coastline form a conceptual scene, not a photograph of the inaugural flight or either airport.*

The practical answer: British Airways now offers a daily Gatwick-Bridgetown service alongside Heathrow. BA planned a Boeing 777-200 for the winter route, with onward Caribbean tags on some days. Search the exact date and final destination, then confirm that the booking starts at Gatwick, not Heathrow.

The Gatwick-Barbados service has started

London Gatwick confirmed that the direct service began on Sunday, October 25. Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation reported the inaugural arrival in Barbados that afternoon.

This moves the route beyond the announcement stage. It is operating, daily and bookable. Normal airline changes can still affect a particular departure, so use the ticket and live flight status for the final time, aircraft and stopping pattern.

British Airways' winter expansion notice called the service winter-only and listed a Boeing 777-200 from October 25. The newer Gatwick and Barbados government updates say it continues into summer 2027. That later information takes priority for the seasonal boundary, while the booking calendar remains the deciding source for a specific date.

Gatwick and Heathrow are separate choices

The new flight does not move BA's Barbados operation away from Heathrow. The airline's Barbados page now lists departures from both London airports.

Read the airport code before paying:

  • LGW is London Gatwick, south of central London.
  • LHR is London Heathrow, west of central London.
  • BGI is Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados.

A fare comparison can mix LGW and LHR across the two directions. That may be intentional, but it changes the journey to the airport, parking, rail ticket and any London hotel. It also matters for a connecting itinerary. Heathrow to Gatwick is a transfer across London, not a terminal change.

If flights are on separate tickets, allow for delays, UK entry requirements, baggage collection and the BA check-in cutoff at the second airport. An overnight stay can be more sensible than a tight airport change before a long-haul flight.

The planned aircraft is a Boeing 777-200

British Airways listed a 777-200 for the winter Gatwick route. That tells travelers the planned aircraft family, not the exact cabin layout on every date.

BA publishes several Boeing 777 seat maps. Layouts differ, and an operational swap can change the aircraft after booking. Use the seat map shown in Manage My Booking for the flight being taken, especially when a particular row, bassinet position or paired seat matters.

Do not infer the cabin or seat from a Heathrow result. The two London airports can show different aircraft and availability on the same travel day.

Some flights continue beyond Barbados

BA says the Gatwick service provides onward tags to Grenada, Guyana and Tobago. A Barbados government update says six days use a shared service and Wednesday is dedicated to Barbados.

A tag flight is not the same as booking a connection from a random search result. The final destination on the ticket controls whether the traveler ends the journey in Barbados or continues. The flight number, aircraft, cabin procedure and whether passengers remain onboard can vary by itinerary and operating day.

Check these points before paying for an onward journey:

  • Is the final destination printed as BGI, GND, GEO or TAB?
  • Does the itinerary show a stop, a change of aircraft or a separate flight?
  • Is the entire journey on one ticket?
  • Where will the checked bag be tagged?
  • Does the passenger need entry or transit permission for each country involved?

Ask BA when the itinerary is unclear. A previous traveler's experience is not a reliable rule for a different tag, date or ticket.

Gatwick check-in is in the South Terminal

British Airways uses Gatwick's South Terminal. Its current Gatwick guide says long-haul check-in closes 60 minutes before departure, security must be cleared at least 35 minutes before departure, and passengers must reach the gate at least 20 minutes before departure.

Those are cutoffs, not arrival targets. Leave enough time for the rail or road journey, bag drop, document check, security and the walk to the gate. Online check-in normally opens 24 hours before departure, but a passport or visa check may still require the desk.

BA's overnight bag drop at Gatwick is for eligible next-day flights departing before 1 p.m. Whether the Barbados flight qualifies therefore depends on its date-specific departure time. Do not plan an evening bag drop until the booking and Gatwick page confirm it.

Read the booked fare before packing for Barbados

British Airways' baggage guide separates Economy Basic from fares that include a checked bag. Economy Basic normally has no checked bag included. A standard economy fare with baggage generally includes one piece up to 23 kg, while premium cabins have different allowances.

The allowance shown in the booking is final. A package holiday, status benefit, onward partner flight or separate ticket can change what applies. Check both directions and every sector before paying, then compare fares after adding the bags and seats actually needed.

If the journey continues beyond Barbados, check the bag tag at the first airport. It should show the airport where the passenger is expected to collect it. Do not assume that an onward tag, connection or separate booking always produces the same baggage process.

A Gatwick connection needs a realistic buffer

Gatwick Airport's connection guide says international arrivals connect landside. That can mean UK border control, baggage collection where required, another check-in and security.

The airport suggests at least 60 minutes for a same-terminal connection and 90 minutes for different terminals when the traveler already has the next boarding pass. Those figures are not a safe promise for every self-transfer. A separate ticket may leave the second airline with no duty to rebook a missed flight.

Build the plan around BA's 60-minute check-in closure, not only the departure time. Add more room for a checked bag, terminal movement, UK border step, family group or delayed positioning flight.

Prepare the Barbados arrival form

The Barbados Immigration Department says travelers must complete the online Immigration and Customs Form, available 72 hours before arrival. Save the receipts on the phone or print them for arrival. The same official page lists a passport valid for the trip, return ticket, intended address and evidence of personal support among the visitor requirements.

Visa rules depend on the travel document and circumstances. Check the official immigration site for the passport being used rather than applying advice written for another nationality.

Grantley Adams International Airport's ground transport page lists authorised airport taxis, rental cars and public buses. It advises taxi passengers to use a vehicle with the authorised yellow sticker and obtain a trip form from the dispatcher. The public bus stop is on the highway outside the airport, so a taxi or prearranged transfer may be easier with substantial luggage or a late arrival.

Mobile data in Barbados and across the Caribbean

OpenSim's public catalog was checked on October 27. It listed five current packages on the Barbados eSIM page and four on the Caribbean eSIM page.

A Barbados plan is the direct choice for a stay on the island. A Caribbean plan can suit an itinerary that also visits destinations in its published coverage, but the current list must be checked stop by stop. The regional page included Barbados and Grenada when reviewed; it did not list Guyana or Trinidad and Tobago. BA's onward route map and an eSIM's network coverage are separate things.

Open the selected package card before purchase to confirm the allowance, validity, speed policy, hotspot terms and top-up eligibility. Install it over reliable Wi-Fi when the package instructions permit. An eSIM supplies mobile data on supported ground networks. It is not inflight Wi-Fi and does not change airline, border or baggage rules.

Ten questions about British Airways Gatwick-Barbados flights

Are British Airways Gatwick-Barbados flights operating?

Yes. The inaugural service arrived in Barbados on October 25, 2026. Gatwick and Barbados sources confirm that the direct route has started.

How often does British Airways fly from Gatwick to Barbados?

Daily under the current plan. Search the exact date because operational changes, seasonal adjustments and sold-out flights can affect what appears in booking results.

Will the Gatwick-Barbados route operate in summer 2027?

Gatwick and the Barbados government say the service will continue into summer 2027. Use BA's live booking calendar to confirm availability on a particular date.

Does the Gatwick flight replace British Airways from Heathrow?

No. BA says Gatwick complements its Heathrow service. Check LGW or LHR on every segment because a return itinerary can use different London airports.

Which aircraft flies from Gatwick to Barbados?

BA planned a Boeing 777-200 for the winter service. The operating aircraft and seat layout can change, so use the date-specific seat map in Manage My Booking.

Does the BA flight continue after Barbados?

Some services have onward tags to Grenada, Guyana or Tobago. The final destination and stops shown on the ticket control the journey. Ask BA if the onboard or baggage procedure is unclear.

Which Gatwick terminal does British Airways use?

British Airways uses the South Terminal. Follow the live airport screens and airline messages because check-in zones and gates can change.

How early should I arrive at Gatwick?

Arrive comfortably before BA's 60-minute long-haul check-in closure. The airline also requires security by 35 minutes before departure and arrival at the gate by 20 minutes before departure.

Do I need to complete a form before arriving in Barbados?

Yes. Barbados Immigration says the online Immigration and Customs Form becomes available 72 hours before arrival. Save or print the receipts after submission.

Should I choose a Barbados or Caribbean eSIM?

Choose Barbados for a trip focused on the island. Compare the Caribbean plan for a multi-stop trip, then verify every destination in the live coverage list. The current regional option did not cover every BA tag destination.

Before booking

  • Confirm LGW, not LHR, if Gatwick is the intended airport.
  • Search the exact date and final Caribbean destination.
  • Check whether every flight is on one protected ticket.
  • Review the live aircraft and seat map in Manage My Booking.
  • Read the baggage allowance attached to the chosen fare.
  • Allow a generous buffer for any separate Gatwick connection.
  • Complete the Barbados arrival form within its official window.
  • Save the accommodation address and airport transfer plan offline.
  • Check the selected eSIM's live coverage and package terms.
  • Recheck the flight status before leaving for the airport.

Future Gatwick-Barbados updates

British Airways supports the frequency, planned aircraft, Heathrow comparison and onward tags. London Gatwick and Barbados sources confirm the route has started and is planned into summer 2027. BA and Gatwick publish the current airport, check-in, baggage, seat and connection rules. Barbados Immigration and Grantley Adams International Airport publish the arrival and ground-transport guidance.

Update this page if BA changes the frequency, operating season, aircraft, airport, tag pattern, baggage or check-in rules, or if Barbados changes its arrival form or airport transport arrangements.
