Les Sarmentelles de Beaujeu 2026: midnight, tickets and travel

Les Sarmentelles runs in Beaujeu from November 18 to 22, 2026. For the midnight Beaujolais Nouveau celebration, arrive on Wednesday, November 18: the release happens as Wednesday becomes Thursday, November 19. Arrange your overnight stay or confirmed return before booking the evening's activities.
The organizer's 2026 festival page describes five days of tastings, music, markets and meals. Beaujeu is the destination for this celebration, rather than central Lyon. A Thursday arrival can still work for the rest of the programme, but it misses Wednesday night's midnight moment.
Which day should you choose for Les Sarmentelles?
Choose Wednesday for the procession and new-vintage release. Pick a daytime visit if your priority is a market, a shorter outing or avoiding the problem of a late return.
| Your priority | Date to plan around | What to arrange first |
|---|---|---|
| Tasting route and midnight celebration | Wednesday, November 18 into Thursday 19 | A bed nearby, a confirmed pickup or a sober driver |
| Food market and a daytime visit | Thursday, November 19 | Your outward and return journey for that date |
| Wine fair | Friday, November 20 to Sunday 22 | The day's opening time and any separately booked meal |
| Children's entertainment and craft market | Sunday, November 22 | A daytime plan rather than Wednesday's late-night itinerary |
The 2026 programme lists Thursday's market from 10:00 to 17:00 and the wine fair beginning Friday at 17:00. The City of Lyon's event listing places Sunday's family entertainment at 11:00-17:30 and the craft market at 10:00-18:00. Its venue is Beaujeu, despite the listing appearing on Lyon's website.
You do not need to spend all five days at the festival. For a longer break, a night around the opening celebration followed by time in Lyon leaves room for meals, museums or a separately arranged vineyard visit. Confirm appointments with individual wineries; the festival programme is not an open-door promise from every producer in the region.
Wednesday's schedule crosses into Thursday
The official procession and ball page gives the main sequence:
| Local time | Event | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Wednesday 23:00 | Torchlight procession departs | Promenade des Sarmentelles |
| Thursday 00:00 | New-vintage release, sound and light show, fireworks and offered tasting | Place de l'Hôtel de Ville |
| Thursday 00:30 | Ball | Promenade des Sarmentelles |
A second procession comes from the upper village. Follow the instructions for the venue you attend rather than assuming everyone leaves from one place.
Put both dates into your travel plans. A room for Wednesday night needs a November 18 check-in; a pickup after the release needs the early hours of November 19. Send that written date and time to the driver and everyone in your group. Avoid an ambiguous booking for "Wednesday midnight."
For photographs, plan where to meet again if people separate. A clear view is not worth blocking a procession, standing in an access route or losing contact with the person carrying the accommodation keys.
Sarmentelles tickets: tasting, dinner and the ball are different purchases
These advertised prices were checked on October 25, 2026. They describe different experiences, not interchangeable festival passes. Check the final basket and availability before paying.
| Experience | Advertised price | Inclusions and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Wednesday Parcours Dégustation | EUR15 per person | Marked tasting route, animations, tasting glass and holder; the organizer also lists the 21:00 concert |
| Late ball | EUR8 | Separate admission, with access included in certain evening-meal packages |
| Soirée Festive at the stadium hall | EUR47 | Meal, entertainment and ball admission; drinks are excluded |
The tasting-route page gives its hours as 17:00-21:00. It covers the 12 Beaujolais appellations plus white and rosé tastings. This is an opportunity to compare wines, not a target to drink every sample. Eat, pace the evening and leave the driving to someone who is not drinking.
The Soirée Festive booking page lists doors at 19:00 and meal service from 19:30 to 22:00. Choose it if you want that meal and entertainment. Do not add it simply because it includes an EUR8 ball ticket: it is a much larger purchase.
For two adults, tasting-route tickets plus separately paid ball admission would total EUR46 before food, travel and accommodation, assuming both remain available. Two EUR47 Festive packages would cost EUR94 before drinks and travel. Neither calculation means the tasting route is included with the dinner; check each booking's stated inclusions.
The offered midnight tasting does not make every paid experience free. You can enjoy the release without treating a dinner, tasting circuit and ball as one compulsory bundle.
Getting from Lyon to Beaujeu: book the return first
The organizer's access page points rail travelers towards Belleville and lists local taxi contacts. A train to the area does not settle the final journey to Beaujeu, or the trip back after the release.
Search the actual dates in the rail operator's journey planner and TCL's timetable service. Check the station and bus-stop names, walking connections and the last return separately. An outward itinerary is not evidence of an overnight service.
For the midnight visit, choose one of these arrangements before buying nonrefundable travel:
- Stay close enough to return on foot using a route you have checked with the accommodation.
- Reserve a private pickup with a quoted fare, written date, meeting point and waiting policy.
- Travel with a designated driver who will not drink and who can use the current parking arrangements.
If a tour advertises transport from Lyon, verify its pickup, departure time, return time and what happens if you miss the coach. That is a separate booking; the festival's local transfers should not be read as a free Lyon shuttle.
Do not build a plan around finding an available ride-hailing car after midnight. A phone connection can help you contact a booked driver, but it cannot guarantee a vehicle or an agreed fare.
Local shuttles, the 2026 map and an older timetable
The access page says the village closes to traffic from 16:00 and directs drivers to peripheral parking. It describes free transfers every 15-20 minutes between 16:00 and 03:00, plus transport within Beaujeu.
There is an important document-date difference: its linked village map is labelled 2026, while the linked detailed shuttle timetable is stored under November 2025. The Festive page also distinguishes shuttle service until 02:00 from a little train between 02:00 and 03:00.
Use the 2026 map to discuss your arrival and pickup with the organizer. Confirm this year's last transfer and exact stop before relying on the late service. None of those local-transfer notices confirms a return all the way to Lyon.
If step-free boarding, a wheelchair space or a short walking route is essential, ask about the specific vehicle and boarding point. The existence of a shuttle or tourist train does not establish accessibility.
Is Lyon a better base than staying near Beaujeu?
Stay near Beaujeu when the late celebration is the reason for the trip and you have a workable route back to your accommodation. Staying in Lyon can make sense for a city break, but adds a separate return journey if you attend the Beaujeu night.
The regional tourism programme distinguishes Beaujeu, Villefranche-sur-Saône and Lyon celebrations. Do not transfer a venue, ticket or timetable from one town to another. Check a Lyon event's own current programme before booking around it.
For travelers arriving on Thursday, November 19, a daytime or weekend visit is more realistic than trying to recover the missed release night. Leave room for a slower morning after a late outing; do not book an early tasting appointment simply to fill every hour.
For a trip with children, start with Sunday's advertised family programme and check the activities' age guidance directly. Our France with kids guide covers wider family planning rather than this festival's late-night programme.
Apps, weather and a phone plan that still works offline
Save your booking confirmation, accommodation address, driver contact and a screenshot of the current village map before leaving. Download an offline map of the area and agree on a meeting point. A charged power bank is useful if the same phone holds your tickets and return arrangements.
Use the official TCL planner for the regional leg, the rail operator for your train, and a current local weather forecast before departure. Bring layers and rain protection appropriate to that forecast. Check the organizer's updates again on the day; a saved map will not show a last-minute change.
For visitors whose home plan charges extra for France data, OpenSim France plans give a separate allowance for maps, messages and looking up travel changes. On October 25 the public catalog listed 1GB for seven days at USD1.40 and 3GB for 15 days at USD3.40, with top-up support for those plans. This can suit a short visit better than buying a large allowance you will not use.
Compare those prices with your own roaming terms. If France data is already included, you may not need another plan. OpenSim does not include festival admission, arrange transport or guarantee reception in a crowd.
Use the travel data calculator for a trip estimate, check phone compatibility, and read when to install an eSIM before travel before changing your settings.

Dates, paid experiences and transport notices were checked against the linked organizer, City of Lyon and regional tourism pages on October 25, 2026. Recheck ticket inclusions before purchase and transport arrangements before travel, especially the late local transfers. This guide will be reviewed when the organizer changes the programme, publishes a current detailed shuttle timetable or revises access.
