Loggia dei Militi and Palazzo Comunale in Cremona's Piazza del Comune in January 2011

Cremona's Festa del Torrone runs from November 7 to 22, 2026, with free entry in the historic centre. Stalls open every day from 9am to 8pm, not just on the three festival weekends. Choose a weekday for browsing or a specific weekend programme for performances, then check the return journey before booking.

There is also an October 24-25 preview at the CremonaPo shopping centre. That is a separate venue and a smaller programme, not an early opening of all the November stalls. If you are already in the area this weekend, it gives you something to visit without mistaking it for the main festival.

The official festival site has separate day programmes. Read the date of the activity you want, rather than treating every photograph or timetable as something available throughout the fortnight.

The photograph above shows Piazza del Comune in January 2011, not a scene from the 2026 festival.

You do not need to stay for several days to enjoy the stalls. An overnight visit makes more sense if an evening performance, a museum visit or a slower morning matters to you. Choose the activity first, then decide whether accommodation adds enough to justify it.

October 24-25: the CremonaPo preview

The official preview programme lists a photo setting from 11am to 6pm on both days. Saturday has theatre with La Compagnia dei Piccoli from 3pm to 6pm; Sunday has flag-wavers from 3pm to 6:30pm.

Torrone lollipops are scheduled for 4pm to 6pm on both days, while supplies last. Arriving within that window does not guarantee one. Make the performance your reason for going rather than promising children a particular giveaway.

Use CremonaPo as your destination when arranging transport. A route to Piazza del Comune takes you to the main November festival area instead. Check the shopping centre's current arrival information separately from a historic-centre walking route.

The November 6 gala at Palazzo Trecchi is invitation-only. It is not a public opening night you can attend simply because the main festival has free admission.

November stalls are open on weekdays too

The weekday programme confirms November 7-22, 9am to 8pm, with producers in Piazza Stradivari, Via Gramsci, Largo Boccaccino and Cortile Federico II. A weekday visit can therefore be a genuine festival visit, even without a large performance.

It also lists costume and Pinocchio e la Musica exhibitions at Palazzo Comunale during the festival. Their daily access hours are not specified in that listing. Check with the Infopoint before relying on an exhibition as your rainy-afternoon plan.

There is no need to buy a large bar at the first stall. Compare ingredients, texture, size and the final price before choosing what to take home. If a sample is offered, ask what it contains before tasting. Keep the ingredient label with gifts rather than transferring everything into unmarked bags.

Weekday does not mean guaranteed quiet. Give yourself room to change direction if a street or tasting area is busy, particularly with a pushchair or mobility aid.

Free entry does not reserve a tasting seat

Cremona's tourism office confirms free festival admission. That covers entering the event, not everything you might eat, buy or book during the day.

The November 7 programme says Palatorrone events are free and do not require a reservation, but admission is first come, first served until full. It asks visitors to present themselves five minutes before the start. That is an arrival instruction, not a promise that a seat will remain.

A separate Degusta Tour listing describes a Sperlari shop tasting from Tuesday to Friday, 11am-1pm and 5pm-7pm, with a minimum group of eight and advance reservation. Ask the operator about cost, language and dietary requirements when booking. Do not assume a couple can walk into that group experience because the street festival is free.

For a limited budget, decide what you want to spend on food and souvenirs before arriving. Leave room for an ordinary lunch; small sweet samples are not a substitute for a meal.

November 15: the train and evening show need different plans

Fondazione FS lists the ETR 252 Arlecchino for Sunday, November 15. It departs Milano Centrale at 8:45am, reaches Cremona at 10:10am, and returns from Cremona at 2:50pm, arriving in Milan at 4:10pm.

The published adult fare between Milan Centrale and Cremona is EUR12 each way, not a EUR12 return. Children under 14 travel free with a reserved seat. The operator links to Trenitalia sales, but the listing alone does not establish that seats remain available.

The November 15 festival programme schedules Compagnia dei Folli's Arcano at 5:15pm in Piazza del Comune. You cannot watch that performance and take the historic train's 2:50pm return.

Choose either a shorter visit built around the historic return or a later regular train checked for your exact date. If combining different outbound and return services, confirm their ticket conditions independently. Do not buy a return reservation you already know you will not use.

A family visit: collect the small-train ticket first

The same November 15 programme lists Trenino Sperlari, a city tour ending at the factory outlet on Via Milano 9. This is a local visitor ride, not the Arlecchino train from Milan.

It holds about 40 people, requires a free ticket collected only at the Piazza Roma ticket office, and asks riders to be at departure 15 minutes early. Seats and daily runs are limited. Check the programme for your chosen date rather than assuming the ride operates every day.

For a family, pick one activity and one food stop before adding more. If the ride is full, continue with the stalls instead of spending the whole visit waiting for another departure. Ask staff about boarding, pushchair storage and any assistance needed; the capacity listing does not establish an accessible seat.

Our Italy with kids guide covers wider trip planning. Keep this day manageable enough that children still have energy for the journey home.

November 22: allow time after the procession

The final-day programme lists the historic procession from 4pm to 5pm, the wedding reenactment in Piazza del Comune at 5pm, then flag-wavers and a fire performance. It lists the latter for 5:35pm to 6pm.

If those are your reason for coming, an early-afternoon departure defeats the purpose. Allow time to leave the gathering, walk back to the station and find the platform after the performance finishes.

The page currently has an inconsistent day heading, but its body explicitly describes the festival's last day and links from the November 22 programme menu. Recheck it before travel for corrections or timetable changes. Do not treat a screenshot taken weeks earlier as the final running order.

Getting to Cremona from Milan

Trenord's Cremona-Milano Centrale route page lists a journey time of 68 minutes and directs passengers to the journey planner for actual departures. Use that as a rough planning figure, not a guarantee for every service or connection.

Search your outward and return journeys together. Check engineering work, replacement transport and service notices close to departure. If arriving at a Milan airport, plan the airport-to-station connection separately; landing time is not your departure time from Milano Centrale.

Save the rail ticket and its conditions. A downloaded barcode does not remove any activation or validation requirement attached to the ticket you bought. Follow the operator's instructions for that specific product.

Use the Trenord app, linked from the operator's site, for journey information. Keep historic-train reservations through their booking channel rather than assuming they appear in a regional ticket account.

Finding the stalls, parking and indoor breaks

Piazza del Comune is pedestrian-only. The municipality points drivers to Piazza Marconi parking and other AEM options. Choose a current permitted car park, then walk to the festival rather than following a navigation app into restricted central streets.

The square's Infopoint can help with local routes and current visiting arrangements; its published number is +39 0372 407081. Ask about accessible routes, toilets and indoor alternatives if those determine whether your visit works. Do not infer step-free access to an exhibition from the fact that the street outside is pedestrianized.

Download a central Cremona map, mark the station and choose a meeting point outside the busiest performance space. Bring a waterproof layer and leave time for a seated break. If rain changes your plans, confirm a museum's opening and admission before walking over: the festival's hours do not establish the museum's hours.

Mobile data for the day trip

An unlocked, compatible phone can use OpenSim Italy plans for train updates, the festival programme and messages between companions away from hotel Wi-Fi. The public catalog checked October 23, 2026 lists 1GB for 7 days at USD1.14 and 3GB for 15 days at USD3.00, both supporting top-up. Recheck the selected plan and checkout total before purchase.

That defined allowance is useful when comparing the cost with your home-network roaming tariff. If your existing plan already includes Italy, another plan may be unnecessary. Mobile data does not reserve a tasting seat or guarantee reception in a crowded square. Check any requirement for calls, SMS or hotspot against the exact package.

Use the travel data calculator, phone compatibility guide and installation timing guide before departure. Save tickets and key addresses offline even when you have a data plan.

Sources and programme updates

Dates and visit details were checked on October 23, 2026 against the official festival programmes, Fondazione FS, Trenord and Cremona's tourism and municipal pages. Confirm your chosen activity and transport before booking.

We will update this URL for programme, admission or rail changes. After October 25, the preview is past; after November 22, this remains coverage of the 2026 edition, not confirmation of a future festival.
