easyJet's new nonstop link between Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Belfast International (BFS) is operating. The airline confirmed that the inaugural departure left Rome on October 23, 2026. It describes the route as a year-round service running twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.

That makes Northern Ireland easier to reach from Rome, but it does not make every Monday or Friday identical. Flight numbers and times can vary by date, especially around the launch period and seasonal timetable changes. Retrieve the exact booking before arranging a train, bus or separate flight.

The practical answer: the route is operating between FCO and BFS, with a published Monday and Friday pattern. Check the live itinerary for the flight number and local time, confirm that Belfast International is the airport you need, and complete any UK ETA or visa requirement before travel.

What changed on the Rome-Belfast route

easyJet's October 23 confirmation says the first direct departure from Rome took off that day. The airline calls the connection year-round and lists two weekly frequencies, on Monday and Friday. Its current timetable directory also lists Rome Fiumicino to Belfast International.

Use the route pattern as a planning frame, not a substitute for the booking result. A launch-week exception, schedule change or cancellation can alter a particular date. easyJet's booking, flight tracker and airport display are the deciding sources for an individual trip.

Belfast International is not Belfast City Airport

The new flight uses Belfast International Airport, code BFS. George Best Belfast City Airport uses the code BHD and is much closer to central Belfast. Searching only for "Belfast airport" can send a traveler to directions, parking or transport information for the wrong place.

For BFS, Translink's airport services page lists public transport to Belfast, and its 300/300a timetable is the current source for departures between the airport and Belfast Grand Central Station. Check the timetable for the actual landing day. Late arrival, baggage collection and border processing can make an optimistic bus connection disappear quickly.

A taxi or pre-arranged pickup may fit a group or a late arrival better. Compare the whole trip, including airport, wait and ground transfer, rather than treating the scheduled landing time as the time you will reach central Belfast.

Check UK entry permission before leaving Rome

Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom. A Schengen residence document or the ability to enter Italy does not by itself answer what is needed for Belfast.

The UK government's ETA guide says most visitors need either an electronic travel authorisation or a visa. The answer depends on nationality and reason for travel. An ETA currently costs GBP20, is linked to the passport and is required separately for each traveler, including babies and children. British and Irish passport holders, and people with qualifying UK permission, are among those who do not need one.

Use the official eligibility checker before travel. An ETA permits travel to the UK but does not guarantee entry. Carry the passport used for the application, and allow time for passport control after landing at BFS.

Cabin bags and airport deadlines

Every easyJet passenger can bring one small cabin bag measuring no more than 45 x 36 x 20 cm. It must fit under the seat and can weigh up to 15 kg, provided the passenger can lift and carry it. A large cabin bag, up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm and 15 kg, must be included through the fare, seat or a separate purchase. The airline can place an oversized or unbooked large bag in the hold at the gate and charge a fee.

Online check-in opens 30 days before departure and closes two hours before it. easyJet currently lists Belfast departures with bag drop opening three hours before departure, closing 60 minutes before departure, and the gate closing 30 minutes before departure. For airports not named in its special table, the published default is a two-hour bag-drop opening, a 40-minute bag-drop cutoff and a 30-minute gate cutoff. Check the live page and booking for Fiumicino because airport lists and procedures can change.

These are cutoffs, not recommended arrival times. At FCO, document checks, bag drop, security and the walk to the assigned gate all take time. The airport warns that security waits can vary during the day. At both airports, follow an earlier instruction shown in the booking or issued by the airport.

A connection on easyJet is still a self-connection

easyJet describes its flights as point to point. If another flight is attached only in your travel plan, rather than protected as a through journey, the airline says you must collect checked baggage, clear the necessary controls and check in again. It recommends at least two hours between flights and notes that some airports need more.

Two hours is not a guarantee. The first flight can arrive late, border queues can grow, and the next bag-drop desk can close before its departure time. Separate tickets can also leave the traveler responsible for buying a replacement if the first delay causes the second flight to be missed. A longer buffer or an overnight stay may be the sensible choice for a critical onward journey.

Mobile data in Rome and Northern Ireland

A current Italy OpenSim eSIM can cover the Italian part of the journey on a compatible unlocked phone. A United Kingdom OpenSim eSIM can cover Northern Ireland. Travelers who need ground data in both countries can also compare a Europe OpenSim eSIM whose displayed coverage list includes Italy and the United Kingdom.

Read the selected package before paying. Allowance, validity, network access, reduced-speed rules and top-up eligibility vary by plan. A country plan does not gain coverage at the other end because the flight is nonstop, and an eSIM does not provide inflight Wi-Fi, satisfy UK entry rules or protect a missed connection.

Installing while reliable Wi-Fi is available can remove one arrival task. Activate according to the package instructions, and keep the airline booking, UK permission and essential transfer details available offline as well.

Ten questions about easyJet's Rome-Belfast flights

Are easyJet's Rome-Belfast flights operating now?

Yes. easyJet confirmed that the first direct Rome Fiumicino to Belfast International departure took off on October 23, 2026. Check the status of the specific date before leaving for the airport.

Which Belfast airport does the route use?

It uses Belfast International Airport, BFS. It does not use George Best Belfast City Airport, BHD. Check that transport, parking and pickup plans all name BFS.

Which days does the route normally operate?

easyJet publishes a twice-weekly, year-round pattern on Mondays and Fridays. Launch-week or seasonal details can differ, so use the itinerary for the exact date.

Where do I find the flight number and departure time?

They can vary by travel date. The airline's timetable confirms the route, but the booking result and flight tracker are the safer sources for the number and local departure time attached to one journey.

Do I need a UK ETA for Belfast?

Many visitors do, including many European nationals, but nationality and immigration status decide the answer. Use the UK government's checker. British and Irish passport holders do not need an ETA, and other exemptions exist.

How much cabin baggage is free?

One small under-seat bag up to 45 x 36 x 20 cm and 15 kg is included for each passenger. A large cabin bag must be included with the fare or seat, or added separately.

When does check-in close?

Online check-in closes two hours before departure. Airport bag-drop and gate cutoffs are separate. easyJet currently gives Belfast a 60-minute bag-drop cutoff and all flights a 30-minute gate cutoff; verify the current FCO row before travel.

How do I travel from Belfast International to the city?

Translink operates the 300/300a airport service to Belfast Grand Central Station. Check the live timetable for the landing day and leave a realistic margin for border control and baggage collection.

Will easyJet transfer my bag to another flight?

Do not assume so. easyJet describes its network as point to point and tells connecting passengers to collect luggage, clear the required controls and check in again. Allow more than the minimum when tickets are separate.

Which OpenSim plan covers Rome and Belfast?

Italy and United Kingdom plans cover their respective destinations when the selected package confirms that coverage. A Europe plan can suit a two-country trip when its current country list includes both. Compare the actual package terms rather than relying on the plan name alone.

Your Rome-Belfast travel-day checks

  • Confirm that the itinerary shows FCO and BFS, not another Rome or Belfast airport.
  • Retrieve the exact travel date for the current flight number and local times.
  • Complete any required UK ETA or visa step with the passport that will be carried.
  • Check the cabin-bag dimensions and whether a large bag is included.
  • Treat bag-drop and gate times as final cutoffs, not arrival targets.
  • Add a generous buffer for any separate-ticket connection.
  • Check the 300/300a timetable or arrange another transfer from BFS.
  • Save the booking, entry permission and transfer details offline.
  • Read the selected OpenSim package's country list, validity and activation terms.

This guide should be reviewed if easyJet changes the operating days, season, airports, baggage rules or airport cutoffs. The live booking and airport display remain the final sources for a particular departure.
