Foire Saint-Romain 2026: hours, weather checks and transport

Rouen's Foire Saint-Romain runs from October 21 to November 22, 2026, on the Esplanade Saint-Gervais. Admission is free, but rides, games and food cost extra. Before traveling, check the city's latest opening notice and your actual transport: the October 23 storm closure overrides the usual hours.
The Rouen tourism listing describes the riverside fair's mix of attractions and food. You can make it the main outing or add a few rides to a city stay. A late closing time, however, does not mean there is a late train back to Paris.

October 23 weather notice: do not assume reopening
Rouen's October 23 municipal notice says the fair closed because of Storm Austen and the orange wind warning, initially until at least 6pm, with a further assessment planned. That was a review point, not a guaranteed reopening time.
A later Le Courrier Cauchois report, published at 5:32pm local time on October 23, reports an extension until October 24 at 11:30am, with reopening conditional on improved conditions. Check the city and organizers for confirmation rather than treating that reported target as permission to enter.
For a trip during the opening weekend, check all three separately:
- Whether the fair is admitting visitors.
- Whether your outward and return transport are operating.
- Whether local weather guidance allows the journey you intend to make.
Use Meteo-France's Seine-Maritime warning page for current advice. A generic weather icon in a phone app is not a substitute for an official warning or a venue closure. If authorities advise limiting travel, postpone the fair rather than searching for another entrance.
Normal opening hours are a planning baseline
The city's October 14 press release gives this regular schedule:
| Day | Normal fair hours |
|---|---|
| Sunday through Thursday | 2pm to 11pm |
| Friday, Saturday and evenings before public holidays | 2pm to 1am |
| Restaurants | From 11:30am |
Temporary closures take priority. Restaurant opening does not mean the rides are operating, and a fairground closing time is not a timetable for every individual stall.
For younger children, an afternoon visit leaves more room for meals and a manageable journey home. If you prefer the evening lights, decide your departure time before joining the last queue. Keep enough time to walk to the stop and make the connection.
What a free-entry fair costs
The city's visitor page says operators set their own prices. Its indicative examples are EUR3-5 for family or children's rides and EUR5-8 for thrill rides. These are planning ranges, not a promise that every attraction fits them.
For example, four rides charged at EUR5 would cost EUR20 for one person before food or games. Multiply by the people riding rather than treating free admission as a free family afternoon. Read the price at each attraction before queuing, including whether an accompanying adult needs a ticket.
Agree a ride budget with children before arriving and keep food spending separate. Nobody needs to ride everything for the trip to work. Check each attraction's height and age restrictions on site; the fair's family appeal does not establish suitability for a particular child.
The city's October 19 programme article lists Wednesday, November 18 as the reduced-price day. Confirm the participating attraction's actual price rather than assuming a uniform discount or buying travel solely on an old offer image.
Free Astuce travel still needs a validated ticket
The operator's 2026 fair notice makes the whole Astuce network free on Wednesdays, weekends and public holidays during the fair. It also says passengers must carry a transport ticket and validate at each boarding, including connections, without a journey being deducted on those free days.
This is local-network travel, not free rail travel from Paris. Do not assume the same arrangement applies on an ordinary Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.
The notice also warns that Saturday strike notices can alter the advertised extra services. Free travel is therefore not a guarantee of the normal timetable. Check your direction and return departure on Astuce's live transport page.
For visitors using line 530, the fair notice says its terminus moves to Mont-Riboudet after 5pm, Monday to Saturday, rather than remaining at Gare Routiere. Save the stop that applies to your departure time. Do not wait at an earlier boarding point simply because that is where you arrived.
Paris to Rouen: plan both journeys before the rides
SNCF Connect's Paris-Rouen page lists direct services from Paris Saint-Lazare to Rouen Rive Droite. Search your actual date and check service status before going to the station. Journey durations and last departures vary; a cached timetable from another day is not a booking.
The city's October 22 rail notice reports the suspension of Normandy trains for the storm and a possible restart during Saturday, October 24 afternoon, dependent on track conditions. That expected restart is not confirmation that your train will run.
Even once the fair reopens, the railway may be on a different recovery schedule. Keep those decisions separate. Check your booked service with the operator and follow its disruption instructions instead of buying a second ticket on the assumption that a different app has found a guaranteed train.
For a same-day Paris visit, work backwards from the return train: station arrival buffer, local transfer, then time to leave the fair. If an evening outing is the main reason for the trip, an overnight stay may be more practical, but compare the full cost and cancellation terms first.
The fairground is not the old town or the station
Use Esplanade Saint-Gervais on the right bank as the fair's destination. Do not navigate to an old Boulingrin location or follow an archive photograph to the opposite bank. Save the current map linked from the city page and check the final approach.
The municipal press release lists free parking on the Esplanade Saint-Gervais, accessed by rue Nansen, with a shuttle, and at the Terminal de l'Ouest, accessed by boulevard de l'Ouest, also linked to the entrance. Availability and temporary traffic arrangements still need checking; free does not mean reserved.
If relying on a shuttle, establish where and when it returns before leaving the car. With a pushchair or mobility aid, ask about the specific boarding arrangements rather than assuming every advertised vehicle is suitable.
Do not make shared bikes your only backup for the opening weekend. The city's Lovelo notice says the station-based service is being withdrawn for October 24 and 25, with gradual redeployment from October 26. A station marker on a map does not mean a bike is available.
A manageable Rouen fair itinerary
Once opening and transport are confirmed, choose one priority: a short family visit, several thrill rides, or an evening meal and lights. Trying to combine the fair with several other Normandy destinations makes the trip dependent on too many connections.
For a day trip, arrive with time for lunch, visit the fair during the afternoon and leave when your return plan requires it. For an overnight stay, keep the morning unhurried and check the evening journey back to your accommodation. Neither plan requires staying until closing.
Ask about toilets, rest points and step-free routes before committing to a long visit with access needs. Individual ride access is separate from reaching the fairground. For a wider itinerary, see our France with kids guide.
Phone tools and mobile data between updates
Keep SNCF Connect, the My Astuce website and the municipal notice page easy to reopen. Download the fair map, accommodation address and tickets while on Wi-Fi. Save an offline city map, but remember it will not contain a newly canceled service or changed entrance.
For an overseas traveler with a compatible, unlocked phone, OpenSim France plans provide a travel-data allowance to compare with a home-network roaming tariff. Checked October 23, 2026, the public catalog lists 1GB for 7 days at USD1.40 and 3GB for 15 days at USD3.40, both supporting top-up. Check the selected package and final checkout total.
OpenSim's practical advantage is access to updates and messages after leaving hotel Wi-Fi. It cannot override a closure or restore a disrupted network. If your existing allowance already includes France, another plan may be unnecessary. Verify calls, SMS, hotspot use and any local-number requirement against your selected package rather than assuming they are included.

Rouen fair sources and reopening updates
This guide was checked on October 23, 2026 against the linked municipal pages, Astuce operator notice, SNCF route information, tourism listing and dated local reporting. The reported reopening target remains conditional; it is not a live admission guarantee.
We will update this URL for confirmed reopening, transport changes, revised hours or cancellation. Recheck before departure and after any new weather alert. After November 22, this becomes coverage of the 2026 fair, not a booking guide for a future edition.
