Hampyeong Chrysanthemum Festival 2026: tickets and day-trip planning

Hampyeong's Grand Chrysanthemum Festival runs from October 23 to November 8, 2026, at Hampyeong Expo Park. Plan for flower sculptures, bonsai displays and plant halls rather than one continuous stage show. The advance-booking discount ended October 22: the organizer now lists ordinary individual adult admission at KRW7,000.
This is worth considering if your autumn trip already includes the Gwangju area and you want a day focused on gardens and exhibitions. Before adding it to a Seoul-based itinerary, check the complete outward and return journey, including the final connection to the park. A reserved train seat is only part of that trip.
The photograph is an archive view of the park during the April 28, 2013 butterfly festival. It shows the venue's flower beds and glass halls, not this autumn's chrysanthemum installations. The spring butterfly festival and autumn chrysanthemum festival have different programmes and transport arrangements.
Dates, hours and the right destination
The festival foundation's 2026 overview confirms the 17-day run and this year's myth-themed chrysanthemum displays. Look for Hampyeong Expo Park, not another city's chrysanthemum festival.
The live KTO festival listing and park website currently show 9am to 6pm. The park says ticket sales finish an hour before closing. Older summaries still show a 10am start; check the current day's arrangements before making an early journey or a late arrival.
The venue address is 27 Gonjae-ro, Hampyeong-eup, Hampyeong-gun. Save the Korean venue name, ํจํ์์คํฌ๊ณต์, with the address for a driver or map search. The festival name is ๋ํ๋ฏผ๊ตญ ๊ตญํฅ๋์ . Having both names helps distinguish the park from the railway station or town terminal.
Current admission: do not budget using the expired advance price
The organizer's ticket table separates ordinary admission from the earlier discount:
| Individual ticket category | Ordinary admission | Listed festival coupon |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | KRW7,000 | KRW2,000 |
| Youth or soldier | KRW5,000 | KRW1,000 |
| Kindergarten child, child or senior | KRW3,000 | None |
The page defines seniors as 65 or older, groups as 20 or more, and free admission for children under four. Other free or discounted categories require the applicable eligibility evidence. Check the organizer's definitions rather than assuming a foreign document automatically establishes eligibility.
The separate advance-sale announcement gives October 22 as the end of the 10% promotion. A KRW6,300 adult listing labelled early bird is not proof that a new purchase still qualifies after that date.
Keep the admission payment and coupon separate in your budget. You pay for entry first; a coupon is useful only under its redemption conditions. Ask where and when it can be spent before treating its face value as money saved on something you already intended to buy.
Choose a few displays instead of trying to cover every hall
The official exhibition guide lists outdoor sculptures alongside several indoor spaces. A manageable visit can combine the main flower displays with two halls that suit your group.
| Area | What to look for | When it is a useful choice |
|---|---|---|
| Central plaza | Myth-themed sculptures, including the Talking Tree and Water Goddess | Start here if the large floral installations are your priority |
| Butterfly and Insect Ecology Hall | Chrysanthemum bonsai displays and insect-related exhibits | Choose it for closer inspection rather than a quick photo stop |
| Subtropical agriculture hall | Tropical fruit trees and planted tunnels | A change of subject for children tiring of flower displays |
| Aquatic plant hall | Water plants and fish displays | Add it if the group wants another plant collection |
| Hampyeong Memory Workshop / Golden Bat Hall | Recreated local life from the 1970s and 1980s and the golden-bat exhibit | Choose it for local history alongside the gardens |
Use the on-site map to arrange these stops, rather than walking back and forth to complete a checklist. Take the outdoor photographs you want while the weather is suitable, then move to a hall and leave time for food. The aim is a satisfying visit, not a count of buildings entered.
Performances and children's activities need their own timing
The official programme includes brass-band performances, a magic and bubble show, craft activities and experiences around the ecological wetland area. It lists the talent contest for October 31, 3:30pm to 6pm, and the closing ceremony for November 8, 5pm to 6pm.
Those dated events should not be confused with a performance running whenever you arrive. Choose any show you particularly want to see, then build the rest of the visit around its current schedule. For activities, ask about the queue, age limits, participation fee and whether you must register.
With younger children, keep one activity as an option rather than promising a particular experience before checking its rules. A hall, a meal and time to sit may be a better afternoon than another queue. Anyone staying for a late performance should arrange the journey home before settling in at the stage.
Getting there: work backward from your return connection
Start with the park's exact address and the time you need to leave. Compare the available services for your date through your rail operator or bus terminal. Check whether your route arrives at Hampyeong Station, Hampyeong's public bus terminal or a stop closer to Expo Park. Those are not interchangeable destinations.
KTO's express and intercity bus guide lists Hampyeong among the destinations served from Seoul's Central City terminal. This is a route reference, not confirmation of a seat, departure time or convenient same-day return. Check live availability and the final local leg before buying.
If traveling through Gwangju, compare the full route from your accommodation. A railway arrival and a bus departure elsewhere in the city require a transfer. Allow for finding the correct boarding area, buying any onward ticket and reaching the park after arrival in Hampyeong.
The foundation's general directions page supplies the local public-terminal enquiry number, 061-323-3660. Use current operator information to confirm the return rather than relying on an old trip report. If you need language assistance, ask your accommodation or the festival information desk to help establish the route.
One search result to treat carefully is the foundation's spring butterfly-festival shuttle timetable. Its published operating dates are in April and May. That does not confirm an autumn station shuttle. This guide does not promise a free festival bus or publish an unverified last departure.
Food, rest stops and mobility support
The food and facilities page lists food-market areas, food trucks, convenience shops and international-food stalls. It also lists stroller and wheelchair rental points. Availability of rental equipment does not establish that every path, hall or activity is accessible.
For a food allergy or dietary requirement, check the individual dish and ingredients with the seller. A broad cuisine label does not establish that a meal is suitable. Plan a meal break before the group becomes tired, especially if your return journey still includes several connections.
The visitor information page identifies information points at the Butterfly Gate, Bull Gate and central plaza, with temporary medical posts at the Bull Gate and central plaza. Lost-child and lost-property help is available through the information points.
On arrival, agree where to meet if separated and locate the nearest information desk. Ask there about equipment rental, toilets and the most suitable path for your group. Bring layers for the journey home, and check the local forecast rather than assuming an indoor hall removes the need for weather preparation.
A realistic festival-day outline
Before departure: confirm the date, admission category and return route. Save the address, booking documents and any onward stop. Leave room in the schedule for a missed local connection.
At the park: check the map and today's activity times. Begin with the flower sculptures, then choose a hall. Stop for lunch before deciding whether another exhibition or a performance is worth the remaining time.
Before the final stop: check the departure again and allow time to reach it. Leaving a display early can be the sensible choice when the alternative is a rushed transfer. If the travel leaves little time in the park, consider changing the base or choosing an attraction nearer your existing route.
For a broader itinerary, use our South Korea with kids guide. Keep this festival as one planned outing rather than adding it between several distant destinations on the same day.
Apps and mobile data for the visit
NAVER Map supports English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese, as described in KTO's app guidance. Save the park and your return point separately. Use your transport operator's booking service for the actual departure and a translation app to help read signs; retain the original Korean address as well.
OpenSim South Korea plans provide a data option for map searches, checking travel information and messaging companions away from Wi-Fi. The public catalog checked October 24, 2026 lists 1GB for 7 days at USD1.40 and 3GB for 15 days at USD3.40, both supporting top-up. Confirm the selected package and checkout total before purchase.
A defined allowance lets you compare the cost with your home-network roaming tariff. If South Korea is already included, another purchase may be unnecessary. OpenSim does not guarantee reception in a crowd or supply a Korean phone number unless the selected package explicitly includes one. Check calls, SMS and hotspot requirements against the plan.
Use the travel data calculator, phone compatibility guide and installation timing guide before setting out. Save essential documents offline even when mobile data is available.
Hampyeong visitor sources and updates
Information was checked on October 24, 2026 against the festival foundation's current overview, admission, exhibition, programme and facilities pages, plus KTO's festival and transport guidance. Activity access and transport services can change; confirm the details that determine your journey.
We will update this URL for changes to admission, daily programmes, access or confirmed autumn transport. After November 8, treat it as coverage of the 2026 edition, not evidence that the festival or its displays remain open.
