IndiGo moves 12 international flights to Navi Mumbai

IndiGo plans to move 12 daily international departures from Mumbai's established airport, BOM, to Navi Mumbai International Airport, NMI. The move is due to begin in February 2027 and continue in phases through July.

The airline has named the existing routes involved and a new daily Kathmandu service. It has not published the transfer date for each flight. A booking that currently shows BOM should not be treated as an NMI departure until IndiGo updates the itinerary.

The practical answer: check the airport code on the issued ticket every time the airline contacts you. NMI and BOM are separate airports. Do not arrange a pickup, hotel or connection from the words “Mumbai airport” alone.

This guide was checked on October 25, 2026, the day IndiGo and Adani Airports announced the plan.

Which IndiGo international routes are moving to NMI?

The joint announcement from IndiGo and Adani Airports says the phased move covers existing services to 11 destinations:

  • Bahrain
  • Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah and Madinah
  • Kuwait
  • Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah
  • Muscat
  • Dhaka
  • Jakarta

IndiGo also plans a new daily Navi Mumbai-Kathmandu service. That brings the announced NMI network to 12 international destinations once the phases are complete.

The announcement counts daily departures, not 12 newly created routes. Eleven are transfers of existing Mumbai services. Kathmandu is the addition.

February is the start of a phased move, not one switch date

IndiGo says the transfer will begin in February 2027 and progress through July 2027. It will announce the final movement dates after operational coordination and approvals.

That distinction matters. There is no supported route-by-route calendar yet, and not every listed flight will change airport in February. Search the exact travel date and read any schedule-change notice before making ground arrangements.

The airline also plans to move some domestic capacity to NMI to support connections. It has not published a complete domestic feeder list in the announcement, so a traveler should not assume a particular domestic flight will use NMI.

NMI and BOM are separate airports

NMI is Navi Mumbai International Airport. BOM is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the established Mumbai airport. They are not terminals of the same airport.

For a domestic example, the separate IndiGo Noida and Navi Mumbai to Udaipur guide covers the announced NMI-UDR service. That route does not establish the international transfer dates discussed here.

This creates a specific risk for connecting trips. If one sector shows BOM and another shows NMI, the traveler has an airport change. Immigration, baggage collection, surface transport and a new check-in may all be part of the journey, depending on the booking.

Do not rely on an airport-change time from another passenger. Traffic, bag delivery, entry formalities and check-in cutoffs vary. If the booking is on one ticket, ask the issuing airline to confirm whether the connection remains protected and what assistance applies. If the flights are on separate tickets, assume responsibility for the surface transfer unless the airlines confirm otherwise in writing.

Getting to and from Navi Mumbai airport

Navi Mumbai Airport's current transport guide lists NMMT buses, Chalo buses, app cabs, taxis, car rental and nearby rail connections. It lists bus links with Kharkopar, Targhar, Belapur, Nerul, Khandeshwar and Panvel, plus Chalo services serving points including Andheri, Bandra, Dadar, Thane and Colaba.

Routes and operating hours can change before February 2027. Check the airport's current page and the relevant operator on the day of travel, especially for a late arrival or early departure.

At arrivals, the airport says transport and meeting areas are outside the terminal after immigration, baggage collection and customs. Agree on “NMI” and the pickup zone with a driver or family member.

Booking, bags and airport-change notices

Keep the booking contact details current. A move from BOM to NMI changes more than the terminal name, so open the revised itinerary and check every sector rather than reading only the message subject.

If the change no longer works, contact IndiGo or the ticket issuer before accepting a self-made replacement. Ask what rebooking or refund choices apply to that booking. The announcement does not create one universal remedy for every fare or itinerary.

Baggage rules remain booking-specific. A through bag tag does not move itself between two airports. At check-in, verify the destination printed on the tag and ask where the bag must be collected. Travelers on separate tickets should expect to collect and recheck unless the operating airlines explicitly confirm another arrangement.

Mobile data for an airport change

An OpenSim India eSIM can provide ground mobile data for airline messages, maps and ride coordination after arrival. The live catalog was checked on October 25 and listed five India plans. Compare the current allowance, validity, network terms and top-up status before checkout.

An eSIM does not change an airport, protect a connection or replace airline assistance. Install it while a stable internet connection is available and keep the issued itinerary accessible offline.

Ten questions about IndiGo's Navi Mumbai international move

When will IndiGo start international flights from Navi Mumbai?

The phased move is due to begin in February 2027. IndiGo has not yet assigned a transfer date to each route, and the program is planned to continue through July.

Which IndiGo international flights are moving from BOM to NMI?

The announced destinations are Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta. Kathmandu is a new daily service rather than a transfer from the listed group.

Is Navi Mumbai airport the same as Mumbai airport at BOM?

No. NMI and BOM are separate airports. Check the three-letter code on every sector and share it with anyone arranging transport.

How will I know whether my flight leaves from BOM or NMI?

Use the airport code in the current issued itinerary and any formal schedule-change notice. Recheck in IndiGo's flight status or manage-booking tools before departure.

What if my connection uses both BOM and NMI?

Contact the ticket issuer immediately. Confirm whether the connection is protected, whether bags must be collected and what surface transfer applies. Do not treat the airports as connected terminals.

Will IndiGo provide transport between BOM and NMI?

The October 25 announcement does not promise a universal passenger shuttle between the airports. Ask IndiGo about the exact booking rather than relying on general advice or another passenger's outcome.

Will my baggage transfer automatically at NMI?

It depends on the itinerary and bag tag. Verify the final airport printed on the tag. A journey that changes between BOM and NMI may require collection and a new check-in.

How can I reach Navi Mumbai airport?

The airport currently lists buses, app cabs, taxis, car rental and rail-linked options. Check live operator times and allow for luggage, traffic and the hour of travel.

How early should I reach NMI for an international flight?

Follow the check-in deadline and arrival guidance in the current booking. Leave additional time for an unfamiliar airport, document checks and any early operational changes.

Is the new Navi Mumbai-Kathmandu flight daily?

Yes. The announcement describes Kathmandu as a daily new route. Its exact launch date and timetable were not published on October 25, so wait for the bookable schedule before planning around it.

What passengers should do now

  • Check whether the itinerary says BOM or NMI, not just Mumbai.
  • Recheck each flight after any airline message.
  • Ask the issuer about protection if a connection spans both airports.
  • Confirm baggage collection and recheck points.
  • Use current airport and bus operator information for ground travel.

This page should be reviewed when IndiGo publishes route-by-route transfer dates, the Kathmandu timetable or a formal transfer policy. It also needs an update if any destination, airport, approval condition or phase changes.

The joint IndiGo and Adani Airports release establishes the destination list, 12 daily departures, February-to-July phases, new Kathmandu route and the pending final dates. Navi Mumbai Airport's passenger pages provide the current ground transport and arrival references. IndiGo's booking controls govern each passenger's airport, check-in and baggage details.
