The Marrakech International Film Festival runs November 20-28, 2026, and applications for its free public e-pass are open. Apply through the official accreditation portal, wait for approval, and check the 2026 screening programme before planning around a particular film or guest. The public and cinema-professional registration deadline is November 28; the earlier October 31 deadline is for press accreditation.
The festival is a chance to build a Marrakech visit around cinema rather than pay for a conventional ticketed attraction. Its public pass offers access opportunities to films and conversations. It does not establish a reserved seat at every screening, a gala invitation or a meeting with a named actor.
What is confirmed for the 2026 festival?
| Decision | Confirmed information | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Travel dates | November 20-28, 23rd edition | Match your stay to the current edition |
| Public pass | Free application through the official portal | Apply before relying on festival access |
| Registration deadline | November 28 for public and cinema professionals; October 31 for press | Choose the correct category |
| Jury president | Marion Cotillard | Do not infer a public appearance time |
| Screening timetable | The 23rd-edition programme is still marked as coming soon | Wait for dated session details |
| Named screening hall | Hall of Ministers, Palais des Congrès | Check the actual room and entrance for your session |
The official accreditation page supplies the pass and deadline information. The October 13 festival announcement confirms Cotillard as president of the jury awarding the Étoile d'Or to a first or second feature film. That role is different from an advertised public conversation.
For ordinary filmgoers, the next useful release is the screening grid. It will determine which day, room and language combination suits you better than a celebrity announcement alone can.
How to apply for the free public e-pass
Use the Public route on the festival's official accreditation website. An overseas visitor does not need to claim professional or press status to use the public application.
- Open the official public application.
- Read the eligibility and consent information, then complete the fields required for your circumstances. The form asks for identity details, email and an identity photograph.
- Submit your own application through that portal and wait for its validation email.
- Keep the approved e-pass and the supplied access code for the Marrakech Festival App together.
The portal specifies applicants must be over 18. If you are exactly 18 or need an exception, ask [email protected] rather than infer eligibility from another site's shorthand age label. Follow the current form's requirements for any arrival or accommodation details; do not enter invented information to complete a field.
Approval is a separate step from submitting the form. No fixed approval turnaround is published in the information checked for this guide. Apply with time to deal with a missing email or correction, rather than assume a pass requested on arrival will be ready for that evening.
Provide identity information only through the official registration service. A third party offering to obtain a free pass does not need your passport details merely because it has copied the festival's branding.
Does an e-pass guarantee a seat or gala access?
Plan around the admission instructions attached to the specific 2026 screening. The pass is not a reason to assume you can arrive at the advertised start time and walk straight to a reserved seat.
The official programme page still says the 23rd-edition programme is coming soon. Session-specific reservations, queue arrangements and any priority categories need that current information. A previous visitor's successful entry does not establish how a popular 2026 gala will work.
For a first visit, leave one main screening as your priority and keep a second option flexible. Allow room for the journey, entry checks and a meal. If standing for a long time is difficult, ask the accreditation team about the session before joining a queue; this guide cannot confirm reserved seating or an accessible waiting arrangement.
Anyone travelling mainly for opening night or a particular guest should wait for explicit access confirmation. Ordinary screenings and invited ceremonies are different reasons to make the trip.
Which film and conversation listings should you use?
Choose listings explicitly published for November 20-28, 2026. At our check, the festival homepage displayed the current edition header alongside conversation cards dated later in November and December from an older programme. The programme page likewise retained older film entries below its coming-soon notice.
Do not use those entries as a 2026 itinerary. A name still visible on a homepage is not confirmation of an appearance during your stay. Save the current programme page and return when the organizer publishes the new grid.
Once it appears, compare four things for each choice: date, start time, screening room and subtitles. Then check admission instructions and the running time before adding another session. Two venues on the same festival programme may still require a separate journey.
The Atlas Workshops, November 22-26, are a different part of the festival. The October 19 announcement describes this professional development platform for Moroccan, Arab and African cinema. Its projects in development or post-production are not a list of completed films that a public pass automatically lets you watch.
Can you watch films with English subtitles?
The accreditation guidance says films in the Hall of Ministers at the Palais des Congrès have Arabic, English and French subtitles unless the film or session indicates otherwise. Check the individual listing when choosing a film, especially if understanding the dialogue is essential to your visit.
That statement is specific to the named hall. Do not extend it to every cinema, museum room or conversation in Marrakech. A film's original language, a translated synopsis and the subtitles available at your screening are three different things.
Families should also wait for the actual young-audience programme and access rules. A family-related label left in the website's older programme does not establish that a child can use the adult public e-pass route.
Getting to the Palais des Congrès
The official Marrakech tourism venue listing gives Boulevard Mohamed VI, Marrakech, for the Palais des Congrès. It is part of the Mövenpick Mansour Eddahbi complex in the Hivernage area. Save the convention-centre destination, then use your session's current entrance instructions.
The complex has different rooms, including the Hall of Ministers and the Ambassadors auditorium. Reaching the hotel or the outer building is not the same as reaching the right queue. Ask staff for the room on your listing before settling in to wait.
The venue operator confirms the site's association with the film festival. You do not need to choose that hotel merely because it is attached to the venue. Compare the return route from any accommodation you are considering, particularly if an evening screening is your priority.
The Festival Foundation's office address is in Rabat. It is not the place to navigate to for a Marrakech screening. Likewise, wait for the final programme before treating past Colisée, museum or outdoor locations as confirmed 2026 venues.
Airport arrival and a realistic first festival day
Arrange your arrival around accommodation first, then a screening. Landing time does not include border checks, collecting bags, the transfer or finding the event entrance. Avoid making an unconfirmed opening-night seat the test of whether your flight connection worked.
ONDA's Marrakech Menara taxi and bus information identifies an airport taxi rank with destination fares displayed. Check the current official arrangement and total for your actual address rather than carry an old fare from a travel forum. If using an airport bus, confirm its current stops and last departure before relying on it for a late arrival.
For a medina stay, ask the accommodation where a vehicle can drop you and how to find the final entrance. Save that meeting point and the property's contact details. For the festival evening, agree a return plan before entering the screening rather than start working it out when everyone leaves together.
Set up the festival app and your Marrakech return route
| Tool | Useful task | Check before relying on it |
|---|---|---|
| Marrakech Festival App | Use the festival's approved pass and current instructions | Follow the access code and setup instructions sent after validation |
| Bolt in Marrakesh | Check a city ride option | The provider lists Marrakesh; that is not confirmation of every airport pickup point or a car at any hour |
| Google Maps offline areas | Save an area and addresses for orientation | Offline walking and public-transport directions are unavailable; refresh routes while connected |
Set up the festival app before your first venue visit and check that you can retrieve the approved pass on the phone you will carry. Keep its email and any organizer-issued documents available too. A screenshot is a useful backup document, not a substitute for an app-based admission process unless the organizer permits it.
Carry enough battery for the return journey. If friends are choosing different films, agree a fixed meeting place as well as exchanging messages. A mobile connection helps with a changed plan; it does not remove a queue or get the whole group into a full room.
For a wider holiday with children, use the separate Morocco family travel guide. Keep day trips on days without an essential screening until the final timetable lets you judge the travel gap.
Mobile data for a Marrakech cinema trip
At our October 29 check, OpenSim's Morocco catalog listed 1 GB for 7 days at USD 2.38 and 3 GB for 15 days at USD 6.34, both supporting top-up. The Morocco plan page has the current options and checkout details.
A defined allowance can suit visitors checking festival updates, retrieving emails, arranging a ride and messaging companions away from accommodation Wi-Fi. Choose the smaller plan for modest practical use, or estimate a longer trip with the travel data calculator. Frequent video uploads need a different budget from reading a screening schedule.
Check included home-plan roaming first; an extra plan may be unnecessary. OpenSim supplies mobile data, not a festival pass, priority entry or a guaranteed connection inside every auditorium. Before buying, check phone compatibility and when to install before travel.
Sources and updates
Dates, accreditation, the pending programme, venue, app availability and OpenSim examples were checked October 29, 2026 against the linked festival, tourism, venue, transport-provider and product sources. This guide will be updated when the 2026 screening grid and session-access instructions appear, for material accreditation or venue changes, and after the November 28 finish. Recheck the official listing for the screening you intend to attend before travelling to it.
