Flemington Racecourse, spectators and the Melbourne skyline during the November 2014 Spring Carnival

The Melbourne Cup Carnival has four race days at Flemington: October 31, November 3, November 5 and November 7, 2026. Cup Day is Tuesday, November 3, with Robbie Williams included in general admission. Before booking, check the ticket's day and access, its final price, and your journey home: Cup Day public transport runs to altered holiday timetables, not a normal Tuesday service.

There is also a short booking deadline. The organizer currently advertises an AUD60 Cup Day general-admission offer ending on October 28, with ticketing charges to check separately. That price is not a four-day carnival pass or a reserved concert seat.

Which Melbourne Cup Carnival day should you choose?

The official carnival calendar confirms four separate dates. You do not need to spend the whole week at the racecourse to attend one of them.

DayDateA useful starting point for your choice
Howden Victoria Derby DaySaturday, October 31Choose it if the opening Saturday fits your trip; black-and-white racewear is the day's familiar style
Lexus Melbourne Cup DayTuesday, November 3Choose it for the Cup itself and the announced Robbie Williams performances
Crown Oaks DayThursday, November 5Compare it if fashion and a Thursday outing suit your plans
TAB Champions Stakes DaySaturday, November 7Consider the closing Saturday; the organizer also announces FISHER at The Elms

Those are planning suggestions, not promises that one day will be quieter or that tickets remain available. Compare the actual admission or seating product for the date you want. A package priced for Derby Day is not automatically a Cup Day offer.

For a first visit, one day may be enough. Keep other days free for Melbourne rather than buying several admissions before deciding how much time you want to spend at a racecourse.

The AUD60 Cup Day offer: check fees before paying

At the October 27 check, VRC's Cup Day page advertised AUD60 general-admission tickets until 11:59pm on Wednesday, October 28, subject to its entry conditions and Ticketmaster's purchase policy. Check the deadline in the purchase flow if you are booking from another time zone.

The linked Ticketmaster Cup Day listing displayed these offer categories:

CategoryDisplayed ticket price
Adult, 60 Hour OfferAUD60
Concession, 60 Hour OfferAUD45
Junior aged 12-17, 60 Hour OfferAUD18
Junior aged 0-11AUD0

The same listing states a handling fee from AUD6.70 per transaction, with a possible delivery fee depending on the selected method. The advertised adult price is therefore not an all-in order total. Confirm eligibility for concessions and the required child tickets before purchase.

After the offer ends, use the current booking screen rather than assuming the promotional price continues. Check the date again immediately before paying, especially if you reached a product page with several race-day tabs.

What does general admission include?

VRC's general-admission description covers public racecourse areas, racing views from public areas or screens, Fashions on the Field and the headline entertainment after the last race at The Elms. Food and drink are available to buy; entry does not turn every restaurant or hospitality area into an included meal.

If you need a particular seat, covered position or dining reservation, compare the named product instead of relying on the words "general admission". Ask about access and companion arrangements before paying for a seat or package you cannot comfortably use.

Do not assume that an overseas membership, a restaurant reservation elsewhere or a general ticket admits you to the Members Enclosure. Keep the access details with your booking confirmation.

Robbie Williams: included entertainment, not a separate seat

The dedicated 2026 announcement confirms a pre-Cup appearance in the Mounting Yard and a headline performance at The Elms after the last race. The latter is included in general admission.

If music is your main reason for attending, plan for a longer day and check the current programme shortly before travel. An included performance does not establish a reserved viewing spot, admission to every enclosure or a precise finish time for your return booking.

There are older entertainment and rail details elsewhere on the organizer's site. Use the dated 2026 announcement and current day instructions rather than building the evening around an archived performer or train time.

Trains and trams to Flemington

Transport Victoria's carnival guidance lists racecourse trains from Flinders Street, Southern Cross and North Melbourne. Search for Flemington Racecourse Station, not merely the suburb name.

The operator currently lists the first Cup Day departure from Flinders Street at 08:40 and the last return from Flemington at 21:00. Treat those as published planning references, then check your dated journey. Allow time for leaving the venue and station queues; aiming to reach the platform at the final minute is a poor return plan.

For trams, the operator lists route 57 and extra route 57a shuttles, with Stop 30, Flemington Racecourse/Epsom Road, as the carnival stop. Compare the walk from that stop with the entrance named on your ticket.

VRC recommends arriving by train and using the Train Gate. A nearby hotel can still require an awkward approach if you only check its distance to the racecourse fence. Save the correct gate, not just the venue's central map pin.

Cup Day is a public holiday: plan the complete return

The October 25 public-transport notice says that on November 3:

  • Metro trains run to a Saturday timetable with extra services.
  • Trams run to a Saturday timetable.
  • Night Network trains, trams and buses will not run.
  • V/Line trains use a Saturday timetable, while coaches have altered services.
  • Most metropolitan buses use Saturday timetables, but exceptions apply.

An extra train out of Flemington does not guarantee the suburban bus or regional coach you need afterward. Search the journey all the way to your accommodation, then save a workable earlier option as well.

The notice lists a public-holiday daily fare cap of AUD4 full fare and AUD2 for eligible concession and senior travel during the current half-price period. Check your fare eligibility and ticket type; do not assume a foreign student or senior document qualifies automatically.

Prepare your transport payment before the station queue

Transport Victoria's visitor guide explains myki and current contactless options. A physical myki is a practical choice if you want to keep transport payment separate from your phone. Mobile myki is an Android option, not a universal digital card for every phone.

Check the current reader instructions for your payment method and route. Buying a racecourse ticket does not itself establish a public-transport entitlement. Keep enough credit or a working payment method for both directions, and charge the phone if it holds your ticket or payment card.

For a regional connection, V/Line's holiday notice also directs passengers to its dated journey planner. Do not copy a regular weekday coach departure into a Cup Day plan.

Parking, rideshare and what to wear

VRC's 2026 transport page lists public parking at the neighbouring Royal Melbourne Showgrounds, via Gate 4 on Langs Road, at AUD30, card only. That is different from older general race-day advice promising free parking. Check current instructions before driving and leave time to walk from the parking area.

For a rideshare return, use the designated collection location in the current transport information. Agree on the rank with your group before leaving the grounds; a pin dropped on the opposite side of the venue can be inconvenient after a long day.

The dress guidance says there are no dress regulations for general-public ticket holders, while Members Enclosure and hospitality areas have their own requirements. Derby Day's black-and-white tradition is useful style guidance, not a reason to apply members' rules to every general-admission visitor.

Choose shoes for walking and standing, and check the day's forecast before settling on an outfit. If you have booked hospitality, read that venue's dress requirements rather than assuming a general-admission answer covers it.

Bags, useful apps and a manageable day

The official visitor FAQ says bag checks take place at entry. General visitors cannot bring alcohol through the turnstiles, and glass containers and dangerous items are prohibited. Food permissions depend on the area, so check your ticket's conditions before packing a picnic or equipment.

The FAQ lists complimentary carnival cloakrooms and public phone-charging locations. These can help, but carrying less and starting with a charged battery is easier than depending on a service you have not yet located.

Use the PTV app for current departures and disruptions. VRC's digital map and iOS app information helps locate on-course amenities and entertainment. Save your entrance and meeting point before arrival, with an offline street map for the journey beyond the racecourse.

For families, decide whether a racing event with betting and licensed areas suits the outing you want. Free or discounted child admission is not the same as a day tailored to your child's interests. Our Australia with kids guide covers other choices for a wider holiday.

Mobile data for your Melbourne visit

Live departure checks, ticket access and messages to friends are useful reasons to have data away from hotel Wi-Fi. At the October 27 catalog check, OpenSim Australia plans included 1GB for seven days at USD1.40 and 3GB for 15 days at USD3.40, both eligible for top-up.

A fixed allowance can suit a short trip focused on maps and messages, without choosing a daily-data package. If your home plan already includes enough Australian roaming, another purchase may be unnecessary. Mobile data does not guarantee priority reception in a crowd, a successful payment or entry when your phone's battery is empty.

Use the travel data calculator for a longer itinerary. Check phone compatibility and installation timing before departure.

Melbourne Cup sources and update dates

The ticket offer, fees, 2026 programme references and transport notices were checked on October 27, 2026. Recheck the offer after October 28, and use the current timetable, programme and issued ticket on your visit day. This guide will be reviewed for changed prices, admission, transport or performances, and after the November 7 carnival finish.
