Promenade des Anglais roadway and seafront palms in Nice, photographed in March 2023

The Nice-Cannes Marathon takes place on Sunday, November 8, 2026, with starts on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice and the marathon finish in Cannes. Check your wave rather than assuming everyone starts at 08:00. Collect your bib before Sunday, bring your own drinking container and plan the train journey after the finish.

The individual marathon page currently shows the race as sold out. This guide is for registered runners and people accompanying them, not a promise of a late entry. The organizer's FAQ prohibits bib transfers and resale; an offer in a social-media comment is not permission to run under someone else's number.

The photograph shows the Promenade in March 2023, not the November race layout, barriers or weather.

Your start wave may be later than 08:00

The detailed weekend programme lists staggered starts. For the individual marathon, it gives:

Listed start groupScheduled time
Elite, preferential, under 3 hours, 3 hours and 3 hours 1508:00
3 hours 30 and 3 hours 4508:25
4 hours and 4 hours 1508:50
4 hours 30, 5 hours and slower, plus joëlette teams09:15

Use your final runner instructions to confirm the assigned group and required arrival time. A later start is not a reason to turn up at the first barrier a few minutes beforehand: getting to the correct entrance, dropping a bag and finding your group are separate tasks.

The general event page's 08:00 headline does not describe every wave. Friends estimating when to meet you along the coast need your actual start, not just the first gun time.

France Télévisions' October 20 announcement schedules coverage from 07:45. That is the broadcast's start, not your race start. It can help someone following from home, but check viewing availability on the broadcaster's own service.

Collect the bib at Nice's port before race day

The bib-collection page gives the following Marathon Expo hours at Quai Amiral Infernet, Port de Nice:

DayCollection hours
Thursday, November 512:00-19:00
Friday, November 610:00-19:00
Saturday, November 709:00-20:00

There is no collection on Sunday, November 8, and no postal delivery. Build your arrival around collecting the bib, rather than a flight landing just before Saturday's closing time.

Bring your identification, collection voucher and any required paperwork not already supplied. The organizer allows another person to collect when the registration file is complete and the representative has the runner's ID or a copy and collection voucher. Check those conditions before relying on a friend to do it.

The organizer's pages use both Nicéa and OcéaNice for the congress venue, but give the same port address. Navigate by the current expo instructions and Quai Amiral Infernet, rather than assuming a congress-centre search result elsewhere in Nice is the correct building.

Bring a container for the cupless course

The current organizer FAQ says no cups will be handed out on the course. Runners must bring a soft flask, hydration pack or reusable folding cup, with refill equipment provided along the route.

This is a real preparation question rather than a minor packing detail. A runner discussing this year's change asked how to manage refills without losing unnecessary time. Read the final station instructions and know how your own container opens and closes before travelling. Do not assume a photograph from a previous edition shows the 2026 arrangement.

The race page lists 100 metres of cumulative ascent. That is not a promise of a completely flat course or a personal best. Review the official profile and your own preparation; this guide covers travel and race-weekend logistics, not an individual training or hydration prescription.

Bag-drop timing is separate from your wave

For the individual marathon, the FAQ lists the designated trucks at Place Masséna, 06:30-07:20. Only the 17-litre runner backpack supplied in the race pack, with its bib-number label, is accepted. The organizer transports it to the marathon's Cannes bag-collection area.

A 09:15 wave does not automatically move that published bag deadline. Check the final instructions before planning a later hotel departure. Pack the change of clothes and other permitted essentials you will want after finishing, and keep anything needed at the start out of the bag you hand over.

Other formats have different handover arrangements. A 20km runner finishes in Villeneuve-Loubet, while the two-person and six-person relays need coordination between teammates. Read the instructions for the event you entered rather than copying the individual marathon's bag plan.

Runners and supporters have different train tickets

The regional rail operator's race-day page confirms that a runner's bib acts as the train ticket between Nice and Cannes, in both directions, throughout November 8. Keep it after the finish and show it when required. This benefit is for the stated trains and date, not every transport service during the weekend.

Supporters can buy the EUR8 Pass Marathon, advertised for unlimited ZOU! train travel between Nice Riquier and Cannes that day. Check the ticket's conditions before buying. A family member does not travel free simply because they are accompanying a runner.

ZOU! also states that bicycles are prohibited on the Nice-Cannes trains in both directions that day. It warns that the access arrangements at Cannes station do not guarantee boarding a particular train. Leave margin for the return, especially before a flight or another fixed departure.

Choose one useful cheering point and a finish meeting plan before attempting several stops. Each extra sighting requires enough time to reach the station, board, travel and walk to a permitted viewing area. A train that serves a coastal town is not necessarily beside the exact place your runner will pass.

The paid shuttle is a separate, restricted option

The organizer's shuttle page lists a EUR15 bus option for individual marathon runners only. It is not the spectator rail pass, and tickets will not be sold at the expo or on race day.

For runners who booked the option, the current page gives the Cannes morning meeting point as Esplanade de la Pantiero, near the car-park entrance, from 05:30 until 06:45. It lists return buses from Cannes port between 11:00 and 16:00. The supplied white wristband is the bus travel document.

Recheck that page before departure. Older search text still gives a different final meeting time and an unspecified port location. Do not use the outdated snippet to choose where or when to wait. If you have not booked this option, arrange the train or another confirmed journey instead of expecting to pay on the bus.

Nice or Cannes: choose around the awkward journey

Staying in Nice can simplify bib collection and reaching the start. You still need to return from Cannes after the race. Staying in Cannes puts you near the finish but requires a workable early journey to Nice. Choose which part you most want to simplify, then check the actual service for Sunday.

Ask the accommodation about breakfast timing, luggage storage and checkout before booking around them. A service advertised as available on request is not a confirmed arrangement for your room or date.

A current race discussion also asks about showers after finishing. Arrange that directly with your accommodation or a confirmed provider; do not rely on a forum suggestion about a beach shower being open and suitable. Leave enough time to change and collect belongings before the next journey.

Airport arrival and the journey home

Nice Airport's transport guide confirms tram line 2 from Terminals 1 and 2 toward Jean Médecin and Port Lympia. Check the current timetable, ticket and final walk to your accommodation or the expo. The published weekday frequency is not a promise for every Sunday service.

For a return using regional rail, the airport's station guide distinguishes Nice Saint-Augustin, near Grand Arénas, from Nice-Ville in the city. They are not interchangeable station names. Work out which suits the terminal and train you will use.

Avoid treating a predicted finish time as the moment you will board a train. Add time for the finish area, your bag, changing, finding companions and station access. The course and transport arrangements can also change, so recheck official notices close to November 8.

Phone preparation for runners and companions

Save your collection voucher, accommodation address, start-group instructions and a meeting point before leaving Wi-Fi. The official guides and plans page is the place to check the current event documents. Use SNCF Connect for rail planning, as linked by Nice Airport, and the local transport operator for tram information.

Agree what to do if messages or live tracking stop updating. A written meeting place is more useful than repeatedly sending a location from opposite sides of a controlled finish area. Do not use a tracking estimate as a guaranteed arrival time.

An OpenSim France plan gives you a data allowance for the wider France stay, including travel between Nice and Cannes, rather than requiring a new purchase for each town. On October 23, 2026, the catalog listed 1GB for 7 days at USD1.40 and 3GB for 15 days at USD3.40, with top-up supported on those plans. Check live checkout totals and compare any France roaming already included with your home plan.

That can suit maps, train checks and family messaging, but it does not include rail fares or guarantee a signal in a crowded area. Check phone compatibility, installation timing and the travel data calculator before choosing data.

Nice-Cannes sources and review dates

Checked October 23, 2026, against the organizer's current weekend programme, bib collection, FAQ and shuttle pages, ZOU!'s rail offer and Nice Airport's transport guidance. Recheck assigned waves, bag deadlines, bus meeting details and rail arrangements before race weekend. This page will be updated for confirmed 2026 schedule, entry, collection or transport changes.
