Messe Freiburg exhibition building and sign, photographed in June 2009

Plaza Culinaria runs at Messe Freiburg from November 6 to 8, 2026. Plan admission and transport together: a digital fair ticket is not automatically a valid local transport ticket.

The fair is a good choice for a November city break built around food shopping, cooking demonstrations and a booked activity. It is less suitable if you expect one admission fee to cover a full day of restaurant meals. The official visitor information describes a mix of producers, tastings and products to buy. For a concrete example, COMTE confirmed on October 3 that its cheese team will be in Hall 4.

The photograph shows the exhibition building in June 2009, not the current fair layout or this year's entrances.

Dates, opening hours and the ticket deadline

Freiburg's tourism listing confirms the three-day event. All times below are local to Freiburg:

DayMain fair hoursA practical visit choice
Friday, November 614:00-22:00An afternoon visit if you arrive in Freiburg earlier that day
Saturday, November 711:00-22:00More time to combine browsing with a booked workshop
Sunday, November 811:00-19:00A daytime visit with an earlier finish

The organizer's ticket page lists these admission choices:

TicketListed pricePurchase condition
Advance day ticketEUR12.50Before the fair
Sunday ticketEUR9.80Advance only
Two-day ticketEUR19.50Advance only
Day ticket during the fairEUR15.50Online or at the venue

Advance sales end November 5 at 23:59. Children through age 12 enter free with an adult. Check the current shop for availability and any selected options; a published price does not reserve a place.

Choose the day you can comfortably attend rather than buying a longer pass merely because the price difference looks small. Add workshop and food spending separately. Set a shopping budget too, particularly if you are traveling with hand luggage and want to take bottles or jars home.

The RVF combination ticket: print it before boarding

The organizer sells tickets with local transport included. Select the incl. OPNV option, follow the personalization link in the confirmation email, then print the RVF combination ticket and take it with you. Tickets bought at the fair cover the return journey only. These are local RVF rights, not a Germany-wide rail pass.

The visitor FAQ allows a digital ticket for fair entry. That does not override the printed-copy instructions for transport. Save the admission ticket on your phone, but do not discard the paper transport document because the barcode opens successfully on screen.

For a trip from Basel, Strasbourg or another city outside the local network, check the fare for the whole route. Do not assume the fair ticket covers your departure station. If you already have a transport pass, compare its actual coverage before buying a second entitlement.

How to reach Messe Freiburg

The venue address is Neuer Messplatz 1, 79108 Freiburg. The organizer's arrival page lists tram 4 and bus 22 for Messe Freiburg, with a short walk from the stop. Search for your dated journey from your accommodation or Freiburg Hauptbahnhof, including any change of vehicle.

Use the VAG journey planner for local services. Check the return separately, especially if you are staying for the evening programme. A late event finish is not evidence that a useful tram or onward train runs afterward. Save a backup route before leaving your accommodation.

Driving can suit a group bringing purchases home, but agree on who will drive before wine tastings. The FAQ lists a normal parking rate of EUR5 per day, with a higher pre-match rate if a football fixture overlaps. Check the current parking instructions rather than assuming the normal tariff applies at every arrival time.

Book accommodation and transport together. A cheaper room outside Freiburg may make little sense if the last connection leaves before the activity you want. There is no need to turn a three-day fair into three hotel nights if one well-planned afternoon fits your interests.

Choose one workshop, then leave room to browse

The current programme distinguishes paid workshops, cooking demonstrations and other experiences. These selected Saturday entries show the choices available, not a promise that seats remain:

Saturday, November 7ActivityListed location and time
Pasta makingRavioli and tagliatelleHall 4, Workshop 1, 12:00-13:00
FermentationVegetables and kombuchaHall 4, Workshop 2, 13:30-14:30
Vegan cookingShort practical sessionHall 4, Workshop 1, 14:00-14:45

Buy any required workshop place through the official shop. Ask about language, ingredients and accessibility before paying if those determine whether you can take part. English-language ticket pages do not establish that instruction will be in English.

A workable afternoon is one reserved session, time to walk the halls, then food chosen on the day. Avoid booking adjacent sessions that overlap or leave no time to move. Have a look at the hall plan before choosing your meeting point; "near the food" will not be very useful here.

Admission is not an all-inclusive tasting menu. Ask what a sample or dish costs before accepting it. If you have an allergy, speak directly to the exhibitor about ingredients and cross-contact rather than treating a vegetarian or regional label as an allergen guarantee.

Late Night and a restaurant booking are separate choices

The official programme currently lists Plaza Late Night on Friday and Saturday from 22:00 to 01:00 in Hall 2. Its ticket page also sells late-night-only entry at the venue. Check the terms for the ticket you hold rather than treating it as another full fair session.

Some third-party listings show different finishing times. Use the organizer's latest programme when making your plan, and verify your return journey before committing to stay. Do not book a train based on an older event listing.

The Atelier pop-up restaurant is another separately booked experience. Participating restaurant Adler's event page confirms its November 6-8 appearance. Decide whether you want a restaurant sitting or flexible stall browsing; trying to fit a full meal around several workshops may leave little time for the fair itself.

Children, payments and practical access

The organizer lists children's baking and Naturpark cooking activities. Check the day's programme and participation arrangements before promising a particular session to a child. Choose a manageable visit length and allow a proper meal break rather than relying on samples.

The visitor FAQ places the changing room near the information point between Halls 2 and 3 and says there is no conventional childcare or play area. Parents should plan to supervise throughout.

Card acceptance varies by exhibitor, even though the venue's own services take cards. Carry a payment fallback. The FAQ places an ATM before Hall 3. It also allows re-entry with an exit stamp, which is useful if you need a break; get the stamp before leaving.

For a step-free route, accessible toilets, seating or a workshop position, contact the organizer about your specific needs. Do not infer that every stall or booked activity is accessible from a general venue description. Our Germany with kids guide covers the wider family trip.

VAG mobil, saved fair tickets and data in Freiburg

VAG mobil provides local journey information and mobile ticket purchases. Install or update it before travel and test the route search. VAG says stored mobile tickets can be displayed without reception, with photo ID at inspection. That is a different product from the fair's printed RVF combination ticket.

Keep the official programme and hall-plan links available, download your accommodation address and save your group's meeting point. A translation tool can help with a short menu question; clarify a serious dietary restriction directly with the seller. Keep enough battery for the journey home.

OpenSim's Germany plans listed 1GB for 7 days at US$1.14 and 3GB for 15 days at US$3.00, both eligible for top-up, when checked on October 23. Mobile data is more useful than relying entirely on hotel Wi-Fi when you need a changed route or want to message someone in another hall. It does not include fair admission, fix a missing workshop reservation or guarantee reception in a crowded building.

If your existing mobile plan already covers Germany at a suitable cost, you may not need another purchase. Otherwise use our data calculator, phone compatibility guide and installation timing guide before selecting a plan. Check the package's current terms rather than assuming data includes calls or a local number.

Sources and updates

Checked October 23, 2026 against the linked organizer, Freiburg tourism, exhibitor and transport sources. Recheck workshop availability, the current hall plan and dated travel connections before visiting. We will update this guide for material changes to admission, programme times, transport rights or access arrangements.
