Nottingham Winter Wonderland 2026: free entry and skating

Nottingham Winter Wonderland runs at Old Market Square from November 12 to December 31, 2026, with free entry. The Christmas market stalls have a shorter run, ending on December 24. Choose your date around the part you want to visit, then book paid attractions separately.
The organizer's 2026 announcement confirms the wider event dates and free admission. This is Nottingham's city-centre event, not London's Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. Their admission and booking arrangements are different.
You can make a short visit to browse, or plan an outing around skating and food. Buying several experiences is optional. Decide what your group wants before comparing ticket totals.
Christmas market dates are not the same as the whole event
Visit Nottinghamshire's market listing gives November 12 to December 24 for the gift stalls. Its ice-skating listing runs through December 31.
| What you want to do | Dates to use | Booking decision |
|---|---|---|
| Browse the Christmas market | November 12-December 24 | No general admission ticket; pay for purchases |
| Go skating | November 12-December 31, subject to opening exceptions | Choose an actual session and the correct ticket types |
| Visit after Christmas | Check the individual attraction | Do not expect the gift market to continue until New Year's Eve |
Someone visiting for presents should plan before Christmas Eve rather than treating the headline December 31 end date as a promise that every stall remains open. A post-Christmas skating booking can still make sense, but it is a different outing.
What does the early skating offer cover?
Mellors Group advertises 20% off selected Ice Rink sessions when booked before the event opens on November 12, for visits between November 12 and December 10. There are two dates to check: when you buy and when you skate.
Before paying, select your intended visit, session and age categories. Compare the final price with the offer shown for that booking. Do not assume the discount applies to every date, every attraction or a purchase made in December.
For a simple arithmetic example, 20% off a qualifying GBP50 basket would save GBP10 and leave GBP40. That is an illustration, not a current ticket quote. A discount is useful only if the selected time and activity suit your group.
An earlier visitor question about whether prices rise later received answers based on previous seasons. This year's published offer is a better basis for a booking decision than an old comment saying advance deals do not exist. Check the live basket rather than relying on either a remembered price or a general news headline.
Market opening hours versus late attractions
The official opening-hours page separates the market from skating, the wheel and bars. These are the market hours it currently lists:
| Period | Sunday-Thursday | Friday-Saturday |
|---|---|---|
| November | 10:00-18:00 | 10:00-20:00 |
| December, until December 24 | 10:00-20:30 | 10:00-21:00 |
Do your shopping before a late activity if the stalls are part of the plan. For example, a November weekday visit after 18:00 may suit a booked attraction but is too late for the published market hours.
The same page marks Christmas Day closed and lists shorter attraction hours on December 24, 26 and 31. It also contains an unclear skating row headed "Monday 16th-19th" without a month. Do not use that row to choose a travel departure. Check the dated session offered for your visit and confirm unclear timings with the organizer.
Leave a gap between shopping, food and skating. A tightly packed itinerary becomes awkward if someone needs the toilet, a food queue is longer than expected or your group takes time to change footwear.
Which paid experience is worth booking?
The official attraction overview distinguishes skating, the Ice Bar, Observation Wheel and Toboggan. It says Toboggan tickets are sold on site. Booking skating does not buy admission to all the other attractions.
| Your group's priority | A sensible approach |
|---|---|
| A low-spend look around | Browse first and agree on a food or gift budget |
| Skating together | Reserve one suitable session for everyone before adding another activity |
| An evening with non-skaters | Agree on a meeting point and separate plans instead of buying unwanted skating tickets |
| Shopping and a meal | Compare stall prices before ordering; keep transport money separate |
There is no need to make the event fill an entire day. A shorter visit with one activity can work better than paying for several things because they happen to be in the square. Do not use old reviews as current stall menus or ride prices.
Skating with beginners and children
The organizer's FAQ says the minimum skating age is four and under-12s need an adult on the ice. A session lasts 75 minutes, including resurfacing. Skate aids are limited, for under-12s, and remain on the children's rink rather than the Sky Skate path.
Check those rules before promising a child a particular experience. A booking does not reserve a skate aid. For someone learning, start with the part of the rink they feel comfortable using rather than making the elevated route compulsory.
The FAQ confirms real ice and says standard skating admission covers the rink and Sky Skate. Bring suitable socks and clothing, then follow the staff's instructions. This is a leisure session, not a skating lesson or a guarantee of a quiet rink.
For a wider family trip, our United Kingdom with kids guide covers planning beyond a single festive outing.
Getting to Old Market Square and back to your car
Use Old Market Square as the destination, not just the event's name. The organizer's travel page points visitors towards public transport and warns that railway engineering work can affect journeys. Check trains for the actual date, including your return, before booking a late session.
NET's park-and-ride guidance says parking is free for tram users with a valid ticket, which is required from the point of parking. Free parking does not mean free tram travel. Sites have 2.2-metre height barriers, and single or daily ticket holders cannot leave a vehicle overnight without prior permission.
Choose the site that fits your road approach and check the tram back to that exact site. A late tram terminating elsewhere does not get you to your car. Leave time to walk from the attraction to the stop; a skating finish time and a tram departure cannot be treated as the same appointment.
Save your parking location and the return route before entering the square. If you want to stay for drinks, decide on suitable transport or accommodation first rather than improvising after the last service.
Payment, access and rainy-day plans
The event FAQ says bars and attractions are cashless, while market traders choose their own payment methods. Tickets arrive as a PDF. Download them before traveling and keep a physical payment-card backup if your phone is also your wallet.
The FAQ does not describe every attraction as wheelchair-accessible: it flags the Ice Bar's stone floor and says wheelchairs do not fit in the wheel's gondolas. Ask about the exact attraction and assistance you need before paying. General access to the square is not the same as suitable boarding or access to every venue.
For rain, check the operator's current cancellation and rescheduling terms before buying. Poor weather does not automatically mean a session is cancelled or refundable. Bring layers and rain protection suitable for the day's forecast, and allow for an indoor break rather than relying on continuous time outdoors.
Mobile data for tickets, tram checks and meeting up
An offline ticket and saved return route are useful even when your phone has data. For changes during the visit, use the tram operator's current journey information and keep your group in contact by message. Mobile data does not guarantee reception in a crowd or a place on a sold-out session.
For overseas visitors whose home plan charges extra in the UK, OpenSim United Kingdom plans provide a separate data allowance. The October 25 public catalog listed 1GB for seven days at USD1.14 and 3GB for 15 days at USD3.00, both with top-up support. A small fixed plan can suit a short stay better than paying for an allowance you will not use.
Compare your home roaming terms first. If adequate UK data is included already, another purchase may be unnecessary. Check phone compatibility, installation timing and the travel data calculator before choosing.
Sources and updates
Dates, the advertised skating offer, hours, access rules and public plan examples were checked on October 25, 2026 against the linked organizer, tourism and tram-operator pages. Check the actual booking and transport departure before traveling. This guide will be reviewed when the organizer changes the offer, clarifies the ambiguous skating-hours row or announces revised opening or access arrangements.
