The EDP Porto Marathon takes place on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 08:00. Registered runners must collect their kits at the Alfandega congress centre on November 6 or 7, from 10:00 to 19:00. There is no race-day collection. Arrange that visit before planning your Sunday morning journey to the coastal race area.

The expo and the race are separate stops. A hotel that makes bib collection easy does not necessarily put you close to your start. If your flight arrives late on Saturday, the first question is who can collect your kit before the deadline, not how quickly you can reach the start on Sunday.

The photograph shows the Alfandega building, not the 2026 expo or its entrance arrangements.

Times are local to Porto. The official FAQ gives the November 8 start and says registration is closed after the October 30 deadline. This is a race-week guide for participants and companions, not an invitation to turn up and buy a number.

Collect your bib at the Alfandega, not on race morning

The organizer's expo page names the Centro de Congressos da Alfandega do Porto for both collection days. It warns that uncollected bibs cease to be available after expo hours, without a refund. The race rules require your registration confirmation with the assigned bib number and personal identification, such as a passport, citizen card or driving licence.

Save the confirmation before leaving home. A payment notification without the assigned number is not the document the rules describe. If you cannot find the confirmation, contact the organizer through the official website before your collection visit.

Friday collection gives you another day to resolve a missing document or query. If Saturday is your only option, allow for getting off the flight, collecting luggage, reaching your accommodation and traveling to the expo. Landing before 19:00 is not the same as reaching the collection desk before it closes.

Can a friend collect your race kit?

Yes. The expo page allows a friend or relative to collect with a copy of the athlete's identification and the email confirming the bib number. Agree the handover in advance and send the documents privately to the person collecting. Do not post identification in a public running group.

Collecting a kit for someone is different from taking over their entry. The registration belongs to the registered runner. A friend holding the bag does not gain permission to wear the bib and race in that person's place.

Registration is closed: do not rely on a resale offer

The registration conditions say entries cannot be transferred to another person or edition. The FAQ also rules out name changes. A social post offering a spare bib does not override those terms.

If you missed registration, ask the organizer whether any official route remains, and wait for a clear answer before paying or making race-dependent travel plans. The current FAQ does not establish a waiting list or promise expo sales. A price on an older race listing is not proof that a place is available now.

You can still accompany a registered runner without entering the race yourself. Keep your own day separate from the runner's controlled entry and collection requirements.

Check the final start instructions: official pages use different wording

The organizer's current pages are not consistent about the start description:

  • The Portuguese rules name Queimodromo, at Parque da Cidade, for the start and finish.
  • The English FAQ describes a start at SEA LIFE Porto and a finish at Queimodromo.
  • The English marathon page also names Queimodromo as the start.

These references point to the western, coastal race area, not the Alfandega expo. They do not tell you which gate, pen or approach your particular distance will use. Use the final runner email, current course material and staff directions to settle the exact entrance. Ask at bib collection if those instructions remain unclear.

Save the actual entry point once confirmed. A map pin for an aquarium, park or large event site is not necessarily the runner entrance. If you need a step-free approach or are meeting someone with limited mobility, ask about that route specifically rather than assuming the nearest pin is suitable.

Getting to Porto and reaching the race are different journeys

For airport arrivals, Porto Airport's public-transport guide identifies Metro line E, the purple line, as an airport connection. It also links onward bus and transfer providers. An airport-to-city service is not a dedicated marathon shuttle.

Build three journeys separately: airport to accommodation, accommodation to expo, and accommodation to your confirmed race entrance. Put the real dates and departure times into the transport planner. For Sunday, include time to walk from the stop, find your entry area and deal with any bag drop before the 08:00 start.

Do not assume the last leg will be a normal door-to-door bus or taxi journey. Check current operator notices and the organizer's instructions for race-related restrictions. A normal map estimate does not establish which roads or stops will be usable on November 8. There is no reason to copy a closure map from the 2025 race.

For an early flight home, STCP's airport guidance lists the 3M night service between Avenida dos Aliados and the airport, generally from 00:30 to 05:30 with an hourly frequency. Confirm your dated departure and stop before relying on it. That is airport transport, not a service to the marathon start.

Choose accommodation around your actual weekend

If you already have a room, check the route from that address before considering a move. A race-first weekend and a longer city break can justify different choices.

PriorityWhat to check before booking
A short race-morning journeyWalking route to the confirmed runner entrance, including any controlled approaches
Expo access and city sightseeingSeparate Sunday transport, rather than assuming the expo is beside the start
Traveling with a non-running partner or childrenWhat they want to do while you race and where you will reunite
Leaving on SundayCheckout, a place to change, luggage collection and the complete airport journey

Ask the accommodation about breakfast time instead of assuming it will be served before you leave. Confirm late checkout if you need it; availability is not guaranteed. Keep Saturday's sightseeing modest if a long walking day does not fit your preparation.

For a longer family stay, the Portugal with kids guide covers destination choices beyond race weekend. Leave time after the event to enjoy the trip rather than trying to fit every attraction into Saturday.

Bags, companions and the post-race meeting point

The race rules provide a bag-storage service near the finish for the marathon, 10 km and 6 km events. Bags must be marked with the bib number, and the organizer does not accept loose items such as a phone or jacket. It disclaims responsibility for losses. Keep the latest bag instructions with your race confirmation.

Agree on a meeting point with companions before the start, outside any area they cannot enter. Choose a specific place you can both identify, plus a time after which they should expect an update. A phone battery, race result or estimated finish time is not a complete meeting plan.

Supporters should use the current course map and staff crossing instructions. Do not promise children that they can follow a runner between several viewing spots without first checking the distances and access. If the runner takes longer than expected, a comfortable wait at one agreed place may work better than repeatedly moving.

Before booking a Sunday flight or train, allow for finishing, reaching bag storage, meeting your group, changing and traveling onward. Your target finish time is not a guaranteed time to leave the venue.

Save race documents and transport plans before leaving

Keep the bib confirmation, collection documents and accommodation details available without an internet connection. Save the final race instructions and a screenshot of the meeting point as well. Check the forecast before packing the layers you need for waiting around before and after the run.

Use the official race website for event instructions and operator pages for service changes. A journey-planning app is useful between those checks, but a displayed timetable may be scheduled information rather than a live arrival prediction. Do not treat a location-sharing message as proof of exactly where someone is right now.

For visitors who need mobile data outside accommodation Wi-Fi, OpenSim Portugal plans offer a prepaid allowance for directions, transport updates and messages. On November 2, the public catalog listed 1 GB for 7 days at USD1.14 and 3 GB for 15 days at USD3.00, both supporting top-ups. Check the selected package, currency, any applicable charges and final checkout total before buying.

That is a useful fit for a short Portugal trip when a defined allowance and an eligible top-up option suit your needs. If Portugal is already covered by your home plan at a suitable cost, another plan may be unnecessary. OpenSim does not guarantee signal at a crowded start or provide race entry, tracking access or priority transport.

Estimate the whole trip with the travel data calculator, check phone compatibility, and follow the installation timing guide. Set up your connection according to the chosen package's instructions, not while searching for the start entrance.

Sources and updates

The Porto Marathon expo page supplies collection hours and proxy documents. Its rules and registration pages describe identification, entry ownership and bag storage; the FAQ and marathon page provide race timings and the differing start descriptions. Porto Airport and STCP supply the airport transport options.

This guide will be updated if the organizer changes collection, entry or start instructions, or publishes material race-week transport arrangements. After November 8, treat these as 2026 details rather than instructions for a later edition.
