Turquoise courtyard seating and brick arches at OGR Torino, photographed in October 2019

Turin's Luci d'Artista runs from October 23, 2026, to January 10, 2027. For a first visit, choose a short walk around Piazza Castello and the nearby squares, then give the new OGR and Politecnico installations a separate outing. Download the current official map before leaving: several works have moved, and The Radiant Van changes location during the season.

The 29th edition's official page lists 31 installations, including four new works. This is contemporary art placed around the city, rather than a single gated light trail with one entrance. Looking at a street installation and entering a museum, fair or performance are different activities with different admission arrangements.

The photograph shows OGR's courtyard in October 2019, not the new installation or the 2026 opening night.

Choose a route before trying to see all the lights

A short visit works better with one area and a meal than a citywide checklist. The following are suggested groupings, not official guided tours or guaranteed walking times.

Your eveningArea to chooseWhat to leave for another outing
First visit with around an hour before dinnerPiazza Castello, Piazzetta Reale, Galleria Subalpina and Piazza Palazzo di CittàOGR, Politecnico and the southern installations

Walking with a young child or limited energyTwo nearby stops and an easy returnA compulsory hill climb or every numbered work

Use the official 2026-27 map and installation notes to save the exact locations. Its numbered collection and lettered collateral projects are separate lists. Some associated destinations are outside central Turin, so a marker is not automatically another convenient stop on the same walk.

A central walk from Piazza Castello

Start around Piazza Castello. Visit Flavio Favelli's new Poetiche del confine in Piazzetta Reale, then use nearby Galleria Subalpina for Valerio Berruti's Ancora una volta. Continue toward Piazza Palazzo di Città for Daniel Buren's Tappeto Volante. These locations appear in the current map; an old itinerary sending you to Berruti's previous site is not a reliable guide for this edition.

Allow roughly 60-90 minutes including pauses as a planning budget. You can shorten the walk after two stops or linger over the work that interests you. It is not a measured accessibility route, and the time does not include a long restaurant stop.

There is a useful difference between noticing an illuminated work and understanding it. Read one description, look again, then move on. Children can choose a favourite shape or colour; adults interested in the artists may prefer fewer stops and more time at each one. Neither group needs to complete the entire collection to have a worthwhile evening.

For a longer outing, the map places Giulio Paolini's Palomar on Via Po and Mario Merz's Il volo dei numeri on the Mole Antonelliana. Decide whether you want that extra direction before dinner rather than automatically adding it at the end. Seeing an exterior artwork does not include admission to the Mole's museum or lift.

OGR and Politecnico deserve a separate evening

The western pair brings together Tony Oursler's **Star*(life) on the Politecnico facade at Corso Duca degli Abruzzi 24, and Samson Young's Inversions at OGR, Corso Castelfidardo 22**. Check both exact addresses rather than navigating to a university campus or venue name alone.

OGR's installation page identifies Corte Est, free admission and a work lasting 6 minutes 29 seconds. Young combines footage associated with Hong Kong's Kam Tin Tree House and modified martial-arts cinema, with percussion by David Cossin. Give the piece time rather than treating the courtyard as a quick photo stop.

Free admission to this installation does not mean every OGR exhibition, concert or hospitality space is free or open on the same schedule. Confirm the courtyard's current access arrangements before planning a late visit. A calendar's end-date field showing midnight is not a daily closing-time announcement.

For opening night on October 23, the city's published inauguration programme starts at the Politecnico at 18:15, reaches OGR at 18:50, then Piazza Palazzo di Città at 19:30, Piazzetta Reale at 20:00 and Piazzale Valdo Fusi at 22:00. Those are opening-night appointments, not a timetable repeated every evening. OGR's Italian page agrees on 18:50; its English text gives a conflicting time, so use the dated city programme and recheck with the venue before setting out.

Where is The Radiant Van on your dates?

CANEMORTO's new work is deliberately mobile. The city's current event listing gives these stops:

DatesAnnounced location
October 23-28Piazzale Valdo Fusi
October 30-November 1Entrance to the Oval, during Artissima
After the Oval appearanceReturns to Piazzale Valdo Fusi; check the specific day
November 30-December 20Piazza Arbarello
December 21-January 10Piazza Vittorio Veneto

Do not fill the gaps with a guessed location. In particular, check October 29 and any transfer day before making the van your only destination. A saved map pin can remain on your phone after the installation has left.

If you are visiting the fair on October 30-November 1, our Artissima Turin guide covers public admission and the Oval entrance. The van's appearance outside the venue does not replace a fair ticket. Visitors combining the lights with music should use the separate C2C Turin guide for passes, venues and late-night planning.

Daily hours, tours and Christmas markets need separate checks

The current edition page and map confirm the season and locations, but do not provide a single daily timetable for every installation. Avoid turning an opening ceremony time, a previous year's lighting schedule or a third-party estimate into a citywide guarantee.

Check the official site again on the day, especially before travelling across town for one work. For a guided walk, bus or historic tram tour, confirm that the booking page belongs to this season. A January 2026 departure is part of the previous winter, not an offer for January 2027.

Likewise, the light-art season starting in October does not establish Christmas-market dates, stall locations or skating arrangements. Book those separately once their own organizers publish current details. A late-October visitor can plan an art evening without assuming a Christmas market is already operating.

Transport, ticket apps and the return journey

You do not need a rental car for the suggested central walk. For a longer transfer, use GTT's current metro information and service notices, then check the walk from your selected stop. A nearby station name does not confirm that every exit or the entire pavement route is step-free.

GTT's official purchase guidance lists TO Move for Android and iOS, authorized outlets, metro ticket machines and contactless payment on supported equipment. Prepare a second legitimate way to buy a ticket rather than depending on one phone app working at the last moment.

If using an iPhone, follow GTT's iOS validation instructions. Buying a ticket is not the same as validating it. The operator requires the valid ticket to be available in the app for inspection, so a dead phone or a screenshot of the purchase receipt is not an adequate plan. Read the instructions for your own device and ticket rather than copying an old forum answer about another version.

For flights into Turin Airport, the airport's rail page describes roughly half an hour to Porta Susa, with the airport station opposite Arrivals. Add time for arrival formalities, luggage and the onward journey. Milan Malpensa is a different airport; this connection does not describe a Malpensa arrival.

Check the actual last departure for your date before beginning the lights. A venue still being illuminated does not mean your preferred train, bus or hotel connection is still running.

Rain, children and walking access

A visitor planning a November weekend asked whether rain would spoil a trip focused on walking rather than museums. Plan for that possibility: carry a waterproof layer, wear shoes suitable for wet pavement and choose an indoor meal or break before starting.

Arcades can shelter parts of a central walk, but the squares, crossings and courtyard stops are not one continuous covered route. Check the forecast close to your visit. Forum accounts from another autumn are not a forecast for your own evening.

With a stroller or mobility aid, keep the first route compact and confirm surface conditions, kerbs, building entrances and any station lifts you need. Do not assume an outdoor installation is fully accessible simply because it has no admission desk. The Monte dei Cappuccini viewpoint is optional, not a required extension to the short central walk.

Agree on one meeting place before a group separates. Save your accommodation address and leave enough phone battery for the return journey, particularly if the phone also holds transport tickets.

Mobile data for the map and changing locations

Download the official PDF and save the addresses before leaving Wi-Fi. Mobile data is useful for checking the van's latest location, transport changes and messages from the people you are travelling with. Offline notes remain useful if a phone signal or an app fails.

For a short Italy trip, OpenSim's Italy plans let you choose a fixed allowance instead of buying a new daily roaming pass. When checked on October 23, 2026, the catalog listed 1GB for 7 days at USD1.14 and 3GB for 15 days at USD3.00, with top-up supported on those particular plans. Compare the live checkout total with your home operator's included roaming before buying; an already-included allowance may be enough.

The practical advantage is choosing data for the whole Italy stay, rather than for one light trail. It does not include transport fares, attraction admission or guaranteed reception at every installation. Check phone compatibility, installation timing and the travel data calculator before choosing an allowance.

Turin light-art sources and review dates

Dates and locations checked on October 23, 2026, against the linked current edition, official map, city event listing, inauguration programme and OGR page. Transport guidance comes from GTT and Turin Airport. Recheck the daily lighting arrangements, moving-work location and service notices before your visit. This guide will be updated for confirmed changes to the 2026-27 route, access or programme.
