United Cincinnati-San Francisco flights: schedule and connection guide

United has restored nonstop service between Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and San Francisco International Airport. The first westbound flight left San Francisco on October 25, 2026, and the first Cincinnati departure followed on October 26. United says the route operates daily in both directions.

The service gives Cincinnati travelers another nonstop Bay Area option and a direct path into United's San Francisco hub. It can remove one domestic connection from some Pacific itineraries, but the useful connection depends on the actual gates, ticket structure and schedule for the travel date.

*Original AI-generated editorial illustration created for OpenSim. The unbranded aircraft, route arc and city landmarks are a generic composite, not a photograph of the first flight or either airport.*

The practical answer: United's new CVG-SFO flight is daily, with an early Cincinnati departure and a midday San Francisco return in the opening schedule. Check the flight number and time again before travel because United's filed schedule changes later in the season.

The opening United CVG-SFO schedule

The opening timetable uses these local times:

FlightRouteFrequencyDepartureArrivalPlanned aircraft
UA1482Cincinnati to San FranciscoDaily7:00 a.m.9:15 a.m.Boeing 737-800
UA2391San Francisco to CincinnatiDaily12:15 p.m.7:45 p.m.Boeing 737-800

The three-hour time difference makes the westbound trip look shorter on the clock. Current schedules allow about 5 hours 15 minutes from Cincinnati and about 4 hours 30 minutes from San Francisco.

CVG's official release announces daily service with a 166-seat Boeing 737-800. An aircraft substitution is always possible, so use the seat map in the booking rather than treating that cabin as guaranteed.

Flight numbers and times are also scheduled to change after the opening period. Search the actual date in United's booking tool and check flight status on the day. The table is a planning snapshot, not a permanent timetable.

Breeze still offers a separate nonstop option

United is not the only airline on the route. CVG's current destination list shows both United and Breeze Airways serving San Francisco. Current schedules show Breeze operating three days a week, while United operates daily.

Compare the complete trip rather than the headline fare. Departure time, checked bags, seat selection, change rules and support after a disruption can alter which option fits. Breeze and United tickets are separate products. Buying one direction from each airline does not create a protected round trip between them.

United's early morning departure reaches San Francisco in the morning, which may suit a same-day Bay Area appointment or a later Pacific connection. The return leaves around midday in the opening schedule, so it is less useful for a full final day in San Francisco. Live times should decide the booking.

Arrive at CVG with time for the morning rush

CVG recommends arriving at least two hours before departure. Its security checkpoint normally opens at 3:30 a.m., and the airport advises allowing at least 30 minutes for screening. Opening hours and waits can change without notice.

For a 7:00 a.m. departure, two hours early means reaching the terminal around 5:00 a.m. Add time before that if parking, returning a rental car, checking a bag, traveling with children or requesting assistance. Do not confuse boarding time with departure time.

Check in before leaving for the airport when possible. Keep the United app or mobile site available for a gate change, but save the boarding pass and itinerary offline as well. A weak parking-lot signal should not be the reason a passenger cannot retrieve a booking.

Check the bag allowance attached to the ticket

The route announcement does not include a universal checked-bag allowance. United's checked-bag calculator asks for the route, cabin, date and traveler details because the result can vary by fare, status, card benefit and ticket history.

Open the issued reservation and confirm what is included before packing. A standard carry-on allowance does not prove that a checked bag is free. Oversize, overweight and special items have separate rules.

Travelers connecting beyond San Francisco should also read the bag tag at CVG. On one through ticket, the tag should show the intended final airport when the bag is checked through. Separate reservations need more caution. Do not plan a short self-transfer on the assumption that an airport agent will combine the bags.

SFO connections depend on the international gate

San Francisco is useful as a United connection point for destinations across the Pacific, but not every transfer follows the same path.

SFO's current international guide says passengers arriving in Terminal 2 or Terminal 3 can reach International G gates through a post-security connector near Gates F1 and G1. A transfer to International A gates normally requires leaving the secure area and clearing security again.

The airport is also rebuilding part of Terminal 3. Its current construction notice says all terminals remain connected by temporary post-security walkways for domestic arrivals, but some ticket counters, walkways and AirTrain access have moved. Follow airport signs rather than an old terminal screenshot.

One ticket gives the airline visibility across the whole itinerary and a basis for handling a missed protected connection. Separate tickets do not provide the same protection. If the CVG flight and the onward flight are on different reservations, leave enough time to handle a delay, a bag collection, another check-in deadline and another security screening if required.

Mobile data in Cincinnati and San Francisco

OpenSim's public catalog was checked on October 27. It listed eight United States eSIM plans, starting at USD1.66 for 1 GB over 7 days. It also listed USA and Canada and North America options for travelers continuing across a border. Every package returned as eligible for top-up at the time of the check, but the live card should be reviewed before purchase.

A United States plan can cover airline messages, airport maps, rides, transit and ground navigation in Cincinnati and San Francisco. A regional plan makes more sense only when the itinerary also needs supported coverage in Canada or Mexico. Choose for the full ground journey, not the airline name.

An eSIM uses supported mobile networks on the ground. It does not provide inflight Wi-Fi, protect a connection or change an airline booking. Before buying, check whether the phone supports eSIM and review when to install it.

Ten questions about United Cincinnati-San Francisco flights

Is United's Cincinnati-San Francisco route new?

It is a restored route. United previously served Cincinnati and San Francisco nonstop, then ended the service. The current daily operation began with the San Francisco departure on October 25, 2026 and the Cincinnati departure on October 26.

Does United fly between CVG and SFO every day?

Yes. United and CVG announced daily service in both directions. Search the actual date before booking because individual flights can still be retimed or cancelled.

What are UA1482 and UA2391?

In the opening schedule, UA1482 is the 7:00 a.m. Cincinnati to San Francisco flight and UA2391 is the 12:15 p.m. San Francisco to Cincinnati return. United is scheduled to use other flight numbers later, so the route and date matter more than memorizing one number.

How long is the nonstop flight?

The opening schedule allows about 5 hours 15 minutes westbound and 4 hours 30 minutes eastbound. Times are local, with San Francisco three hours behind Cincinnati in the opening period.

Does Breeze Airways also fly from Cincinnati to San Francisco?

Yes. Current schedules show Breeze on selected days and United daily. Compare the live date, total fare, bag allowance, timing and change terms. The airlines do not protect each other's separately booked tickets.

What aircraft does United use on the route?

CVG announced a Boeing 737-800 with 166 seats, including 16 First or Business seats and 150 Economy Plus and Economy seats. Check the live seat map because operational substitutions can change the aircraft or cabin.

How early should I arrive at CVG?

CVG recommends arriving at least two hours before departure. For the opening 7:00 a.m. flight, plan to reach the terminal around 5:00 a.m., then add time for parking, bags, children or assistance.

Which terminal does United use at SFO?

United domestic flights normally use Terminal 3 and can also use nearby gates during construction. The exact gate controls the route through the airport. Check the United app and SFO screens after landing instead of relying on a fixed terminal assumption.

Can I connect to an international flight without clearing security again at SFO?

Passengers arriving at Terminal 2 or 3 can normally walk post-security to International G gates. International A gates generally require an exit and another security check. A bag that is not tagged through can also force a landside transfer.

Will United check my bag through on separate tickets?

Do not assume it will. Ask at CVG and read the printed bag tag, but plan the connection as a self-transfer unless the issued itinerary and tag confirm the final destination. Separate tickets can leave the passenger responsible for a missed onward flight.

Final booking checks for this nonstop

  • Search the actual travel date because flight numbers and times change.
  • Compare United and Breeze after bags, seats and change terms.
  • Confirm the planned aircraft and seat map.
  • Allow CVG's recommended two-hour arrival margin.
  • Keep one ticket for a Pacific connection when practical.
  • Check whether the SFO international flight uses G or A gates.
  • Save the itinerary, boarding pass and support details offline.
  • Choose mobile data for every country used on the ground.

Sources and route changes to watch

The official CVG release establishes the daily service, launch dates and planned aircraft. CVG and SFO airport pages establish current route, security and connection guidance. Current schedule pages were used to confirm the opening flight numbers and local times, while public discussions identified recurring questions about frequency, Breeze overlap, early airport arrival and separate-ticket connections.

Update this guide if United changes the route's frequency, seasonal status, timetable, aircraft plan or operating status, or if SFO materially changes its Terminal 3 connection paths during construction.
