Whistler Film Festival 2026: tickets and winter travel

Whistler Film Festival runs December 2-6, 2026, with individual film tickets scheduled to go on sale November 4 at 10:00 Pacific. Choose your screenings before committing to a pass or a Vancouver day trip: a ticket pack needs redemption, a pass can involve a capacity-limited queue, and an evening film needs a workable journey home.
The festival's November 3 programme announcement lists 103 films, with 70% Canadian programming. That creates plenty of choices for a short stay. It does not mean one product admits you to every screening, industry session and special event.
November 4 ticket release: start with the screening you want
The festival FAQ schedules individual sales for November 4 at 10:00 Pacific. Use the official box office; the organizer cannot validate third-party reseller tickets.
Open the programme in advance and shortlist a first choice and a backup. Check the date, venue and admission category before payment. A film title appearing in the lineup is not proof that a seat remains available for the screening you want.
If you are booking from another country, use the organizer's Pacific-time release rather than reading 10:00 as your home time. Check the time displayed in the booking flow.
Ticket packs and passes solve different booking problems
The 2026 ticket page lists these pack prices on November 4. Amounts are Canadian dollars; the three standard packs add GST and fees.
| Product | Listed price | Main restriction |
|---|---|---|
| Three-film pack | CAD 60 plus GST and fees | Excludes Opening Night, Content Summit, Signature Series and other events |
| Six-film pack | CAD 110 plus GST and fees | Same standard-pack exclusions |
| Ten-film pack | CAD 175 plus GST and fees | Same standard-pack exclusions |
| Borsos Canadian six-pack | CAD 36 | Valid only for Borsos Competition films; confirm checkout total |
Pack tickets are transferable; unused credits are non-refundable. In Eventive, choose the film, date and time, then redeem through the pass option. A pack is useful only if its eligible films fit your dates.
Most passholders use a dedicated seat allotment rather than reserving screenings. WFF asks them to arrive at least 30 minutes early; admission remains subject to capacity. An individual ticket holds admission until 15 minutes before showtime. Reserved-seat products have separate instructions.
For one film you would be disappointed to miss, compare an individual ticket before buying broader access. For several flexible choices, compare the eligible pack against your actual shortlist. Do not count films that overlap or require a separate admission.
Build your film choices around interests, not celebrity attendance
The announced opening film is Brad Bird's Ray Gunn; the closing film is Vic Sarin's The Lightkeeper. Their inclusion does not establish that a particular cast member will attend your screening.
The programme announcement also identifies Canadian competition films, documentaries and Mountain Culture selections. A visitor interested in climbing or endurance stories can start with that strand; someone seeking Canadian features can compare the Borsos selection before considering its restricted six-pack.
Use the dated film programme for screening details and updates. A filmmaker conversation or Signature Series appearance may have different access from the film itself. Check both listings if the conversation is the main reason you are travelling.
Leave room between bookings for a meal and the venue change. Two screenings that technically fit on a calendar may leave no time to collect a pass or join the correct queue.
Find the right Whistler venue before leaving your accommodation
The festival travel page identifies these screening venues:
| Venue | Address | Planning detail |
|---|---|---|
| Rainbow Theatre | 4010 Whistler Way | Inside Whistler Conference Centre |
| Maury Young Arts Centre | 4335 Blackcomb Way | Check the named venue on your booking |
| Squamish Lil'Wat Cultural Centre | 4584 Blackcomb Way | Separate location for screenings and special events |
Guest Services pass collection is on the Conference Centre's lower level, in the Tantalus Room. Check its daily hours if arriving late. Collecting a pass and reaching a theatre are separate tasks, even when they share a building.
The village can be explored without a rental car, but do not treat a short map distance as a guaranteed winter walking time. Save the actual entrance and ask about the step-free route when needed.
Vancouver airport and downtown departures are not interchangeable
Tourism Whistler's shuttle guide distinguishes airport transfers, downtown services and hotel drop-offs. It gives approximate journeys of two hours from downtown Vancouver and 2.5-3 hours from Vancouver International Airport, depending on weather, traffic and road conditions.
| Your starting point | What to book around |
|---|---|
| YVR after an international arrival | Border formalities, luggage collection and the operator's pickup instructions |
| Downtown Vancouver | The exact departure stop, not the airport schedule |
| Accommodation outside the central village | Whether the service reaches that property or ends at a village stop |
| Whistler before a flight | A return booking with enough time for the road journey and airport procedures |
A hotel-drop-off service may suit someone carrying heavy luggage. A village-stop coach may work well if the accommodation is nearby. Compare the full door-to-door trip rather than assuming the shortest advertised driving time covers every transfer.
Use the early-winter timetable for December 2-6
Whistler Shuttle's published November 26-December 17 downtown timetable lists Vancouver departure at 13:00, arriving in Whistler around 15:00, and Whistler departure at 10:00, arriving downtown around noon. Those are that operator's services, not every available bus.
Its later peak-winter timetable starts December 18, after the festival. Do not use those extra departures to plan a December 2-6 visit. Pickup and arrival times can vary; use your confirmation for the actual meeting point.
For a day trip, settle the return before buying an evening screening. If another operator's last departure leaves too early, choose an earlier film or stay overnight. A festival ticket does not supply a bus reservation.
Winter roads, age rules and access need separate checks
If driving, follow British Columbia's winter-driving guidance and the posted tire requirements. Check DriveBC before departure. Winter equipment does not make a fixed arrival time certain; deteriorating conditions may mean changing the travel plan.
The festival FAQ generally restricts unclassified screenings to adults aged 18 or over, with exceptions for films classified for younger audiences. Some ticket-product wording says 19+ unless specified otherwise. Confirm the exact screening and product with the box office for an 18-year-old or a younger visitor rather than assuming every event uses one age rule. Bring government-issued photo ID.
WFF describes its screening venues as wheelchair accessible. That does not confirm a particular seat, the route from your hotel or the shuttle vehicle. Arrange those details separately before booking a tight connection.
For a wider family trip, the Canada with kids guide covers destination choices beyond the festival. An animated film is not automatically an all-ages screening.
Keep the booking and pickup details available away from Wi-Fi
Save your film confirmations, accommodation address and shuttle instructions before travelling. Keep a charged phone available for booking changes and messaging, but follow the ticket issuer's display instructions rather than assuming any screenshot will work for entry. Put the phone away during screenings.
For an international visitor whose home plan does not include enough Canadian data, OpenSim Canada plans provide a separate allowance for maps, booking access and travel messages. On November 4, the catalog listed 1 GB for seven days at USD 5.56 and 10 GB for 30 days at USD 19.80, both with top-up available. The longer allowance may suit a Vancouver-and-Whistler trip; compare your own use rather than buying data for films you will watch in a theatre.
Included Canadian roaming may already meet your needs. Mobile data does not reserve a screening or guarantee reception on a mountain highway. Check phone compatibility, installation timing and the travel data calculator before choosing a plan.
Sources and updates
WFF's programme announcement identifies the films; its ticket page and FAQ explain booking, admission and age conditions. Festival venue information, Tourism Whistler and the named shuttle operator cover the journey. British Columbia supplies winter-road guidance. Changes to ticket eligibility, screening times, venues, age restrictions or December transport schedules will trigger an update.
