Choose Unlimited when you prefer a daily high-speed allowance with reduced-speed data afterward. Choose the 30-day fixed-data plan when you want one total allowance to use across your trip. Compare the current totals in the selector, and adjust the Unlimited days to your actual travel dates.
A Japan package uses its supported local networks as you travel between those cities. You do not need to change the eSIM for each stop. Coverage and speed still vary by network, building and route, so keep the next hotel address and connection saved offline.
Use data for route searches, train changes and station directions wherever the supported network has signal. Tunnels and remote sections can interrupt service. Save any ticket you must show, along with the next connection and your accommodation address, before boarding.
Read the selected package's start rule before installing. Some packages start at installation and others at the first supported network connection. Use a reliable internet connection for setup, save the instructions, and select the travel eSIM for mobile data when the instructions tell you to.
Treat the package as data-only unless its details explicitly include a number, calls or SMS. A data connection does not supply a Japanese number for reservations or verification. You can keep your usual SIM available for messages, subject to your home carrier's roaming charges.
Citymapper publishes coverage for selected cities or regions in Japan, with public-transport route options.
Compare longer transfers to and around Japan by train, bus, ferry, flight or car.
These apps can use the travel eSIM's data connection in covered areas. Install the apps you need and sign in before departure. If a booking service requires a Japanese phone number, buying a data-only eSIM will not satisfy that requirement.
Check that both the chosen package and your phone allow hotspot use before relying on it. Tethering uses the same package allowance, and sharing video or large downloads can consume the available high-speed data quickly. Keep another way to access essential tickets.
Yes. You can buy and use a non-reloadable plan normally, but it cannot be topped up. Buy another package if you need more data. An eligible reloadable plan can show a top-up option when one is available in My eSIMs.
The selector explains the daily high-speed allowance for the Unlimited plan. After that allowance is used, data continues at reduced speed until the next daily refresh. Check the package instructions for refresh timing; the 30-day fixed-data option has one total allowance instead.
Check your exact device model, not only its brand, and make sure it supports eSIM and is unlocked for another carrier. On an iPhone, check Carrier Lock in Settings, General, About. Complete the compatibility check before you buy or begin installation.
