Air Canada new routes for 2027: dates, hubs and trip planning

Air Canada announced new 2027 flights from Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal on September 3, 2026. The five new destinations are Guangzhou, Oslo, Shannon, Basel and Dubrovnik. Toronto also gains a new flight to Nice, while its Guatemala City route becomes year-round and the daytime flight to London Heathrow returns.

The routes are already on sale. Two still depend on government approval, and every published schedule can change before departure. Check the exact flight number and operating days before arranging a non-refundable hotel, train or separate onward flight around one of these services.

The short answer: Air Canada's summer 2027 expansion is useful for direct access to western Ireland, Norway, the French Riviera, the Basel tri-country area, Croatia and southern China. It is not one uniform launch. Frequencies range from twice weekly to daily, most European routes are seasonal, and the Guangzhou and Oslo services are subject to government approval.

Air Canada summer 2027 route table

The return season can end one day after the last outbound flight. Air Canada's release lists the complete direction-by-direction dates and times.

What is actually new?

The announcement combines several kinds of change. Guangzhou, Oslo, Shannon, Basel and Dubrovnik are new Air Canada destinations in this expansion. Toronto to Nice is a new city pair, but Nice already has Air Canada service from Montreal.

Toronto to Guatemala City starts in December 2026. The September announcement makes it year-round rather than introducing it for the first time in summer 2027. Montreal to Tenerife, Lima and Guatemala City also move to year-round operation.

Toronto to Shanghai increases to daily. Toronto to London Heathrow gets a fifth daily flight, AC862, with an 8:30 a.m. departure and 9 p.m. arrival in London. That is a returning daytime pattern, not a new Air Canada destination.

This distinction matters when comparing headlines. "Five new destinations" and "seven routes" do not mean seven cities have been added to the network.

Which new route fits which trip?

Vancouver to Guangzhou

The Guangzhou flight is the only new route in this announcement scheduled all year from its first published date. It leaves Vancouver three times per week on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The government-approval footnote matters: a ticket may be available while the service is still subject to a regulatory condition.

Guangzhou works as a southern China entry point. Do not treat a direct flight as a complete entry plan. Check passport, visa and transit rules for the traveler's nationality, then confirm whether a separate domestic flight or train leaves enough time after immigration and baggage collection.

China is also the route where phone preparation deserves the earliest check. Install essential airline, translation, payment and map tools before departure, save hotel details in Chinese where possible, and verify what the selected travel-data package covers. Do not assume an app or roaming path behaves exactly as it does in Canada.

Toronto to Oslo

Toronto to Oslo runs four times weekly from June 2 to October 10 on the outbound schedule. It uses the A321XLR and remains subject to government approval.

Oslo Airport is straightforward for a city stay. Avinor says the train to central Oslo takes about 20 minutes. A fjord, rail or domestic-flight itinerary needs another decision: stay in Oslo first, or connect onward on arrival. With a four-times-weekly transatlantic flight, a missed separate ticket can create a longer wait than it would on a daily route.

Toronto to Shannon

The Shannon service runs three times weekly from June 10 to October 2 on the outbound schedule. It gives western Ireland a direct Toronto link rather than requiring an arrival in Dublin followed by a cross-country transfer.

That does not make Shannon the right airport for every Ireland trip. It is a strong match for County Clare, Limerick, Galway and a western road route. Dublin remains more practical when most nights are in the capital or eastern Ireland. Compare the entire ground journey, car-rental plan and return date instead of choosing by airfare alone.

Toronto to Nice

Toronto to Nice is the least frequent new city pair in the table, with Wednesday and Saturday flights from June 16 to October 23. Montreal already has Nice service, so some Canadian travelers may have more than one workable hub.

Nice Airport says tram line 2 links both terminals with the city centre in less than 30 minutes. The airport also has onward transport toward Cannes, Antibes and Monaco. If the trip crosses into Italy or Monaco, check the included-country list of any regional mobile plan rather than assuming "France" covers the whole route.

Montreal to Basel-Mulhouse

The Basel-Mulhouse flight runs four times weekly from June 16 to October 23 outbound. The airport name hides an important detail. EuroAirport says the terminal is on French territory and has separate French and Swiss parts.

Choose the correct exit for the onward transfer. A hotel in Basel, a rental car in France and a train toward Germany are three different arrival plans even though they begin in the same terminal. Save the booking address and rental-company instructions offline before landing.

Montreal to Dubrovnik

Montreal to Dubrovnik starts May 11 and runs three times weekly to October 23 outbound on a Boeing 787. It is the earliest of the newly announced summer services.

Dubrovnik suits a Croatia trip, but many itineraries continue to Montenegro or Bosnia and Herzegovina. That border crossing changes the mobile-data decision. A Croatia-only package may stop at the border, while a regional or global package still needs an exact country-list check. It also changes car-rental and document requirements, which should be confirmed separately.

Should you book an Air Canada 2027 route now?

Booking early can make sense when the date is fixed, the fare is acceptable and the route removes a costly connection. It is a weaker choice when the trip depends on an approval-pending service, a same-day separate ticket or a precise weekly operating pattern that leaves no fallback.

Before paying, check these five points:

1. Confirm the operating flight number and direction. Outbound and return days are not identical.
2. Read the fare rules for changes, refunds, seat selection and baggage.
3. Price the full journey, including travel to Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal and the arrival-airport transfer.
4. Leave a practical buffer before any separately ticketed train or flight.
5. Recheck the schedule before a non-refundable booking and again before departure.

Air Canada's announcement says the flights are available for purchase and that schedules are subject to change. It does not promise a launch fare, award-seat supply or protection for a separate booking.

Is the Heathrow daytime flight better than an overnight flight?

AC862 is scheduled to leave Toronto at 8:30 a.m. and reach Heathrow at 9 p.m. local time. It can suit travelers who struggle to sleep on an eastbound overnight flight. The trade-off is a late London arrival after a full day in transit.

Plan the final transfer before choosing it. A central London hotel with a simple rail route is different from a late onward train, a separate flight or a hotel outside the city. Keep the hotel address and a backup route offline in case the arrival is delayed.

8. Is Toronto to Guatemala City a brand-new summer route? No. Air Canada says it begins in December 2026 and then operates year-round.
9. Does the daytime Heathrow flight avoid an overnight flight? Yes, on the published timing. It leaves Toronto in the morning and reaches London at 9 p.m., so the trade-off is a late arrival.
10. Did Air Canada cancel another route to make room? The September 3 releases do not announce route removals. Check the live timetable for any existing service needed by the trip rather than inferring that silence guarantees it continues.
