Art Basel Paris 2026: tickets, free art and a practical route
Art Basel Paris opens to the public at the Grand Palais from Friday, October 23, to Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 11:00 to 19:00. You can buy a ticket without being a collector. If you mainly want an autumn art walk, start with the separate public programme instead: several installations and exhibitions are free, and their dates extend beyond the fair weekend.
One booking date is close: October 8, when guided-tour registration opens for Alice Diop's Geste de Consolation at the Palais d'Iena. That exhibition is separate from the paid fair and opens October 21. All times below are local Paris time.

Which Art Basel Paris ticket should you buy?
The Grand Palais event listing confirms these prices, checked October 5. Book through the official Art Basel ticket page, and read the conditions for the ticket you select.
| Ticket | Listed price | When it works | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day | EUR47 | One selected day, October 23, 24 or 25; 11:00-19:00 | A first visit with time to browse |
| Reduced day | EUR30 | Public days; proof of eligibility required | Eligible students, visitors under 26 and specified Louvre-card holders |
| Evening | EUR40 | Friday, October 23 only; 17:00-19:00 | A short visit after another daytime activity |
| Vernissage | EUR120 | Thursday, October 22; 14:00-20:00 | Visitors who specifically want the opening session |
The evening ticket saves EUR7, but gives you two hours rather than the full public day. It is a poor saving if you want to compare many booths or linger with individual works. Buy it for a short visit, not because "evening" sounds like a cheaper version of the same experience.
The vernissage is a ticketed Thursday session. It does not make Wednesday's preview a public event. The organizer lists October 21 and October 22 before 14:00 as invitation-only preview periods.
Day and evening tickets do not allow re-entry
The organizer's 2026 ticket conditions specify one entry for day and evening tickets. Leaving for lunch, then returning on the same ticket, is not permitted. Eat beforehand or plan to stay inside for your visit; put the outdoor art walk before or after it.
Reduced admission applies to students, people under 26, and holders of Louvre Jeunes, Louvre Professionnels or Louvre Famille cards. Bring the required proof. A different museum membership is not automatically eligible.
For repeat visits, the listed Permanent ticket is EUR130 for the three public days, and Permanent+ is EUR220 including the Thursday vernissage. Three EUR47 day tickets total EUR141. Compare the actual access conditions before buying a pass; do not assume a multi-day product has exactly the same rules as a single-entry day ticket.
Can you see Art Basel's public art without a fair ticket?
Yes. The city programme is a separate way to see art during the week, rather than a free route into the Grand Palais booths. Paris's tourism office lists admission by project. Its overview calls the programme free, but its detailed listing charges for Kennedy Yanko's presentation inside the Cite de l'architecture. Use the individual listing, not the headline, when budgeting.
| Stop | Published dates | Admission |
|---|---|---|
| Place Clemenceau: Robert Indiana's LOVE Wall | October 20-25 | Free outdoor installation |
| Avenue Winston Churchill: sculpture route | October 20-25 | Free outdoor installations |
| Square Jean Perrin: Lionel Sabatte's Champs d'Oiseaux | October 20-25 | Free outdoor installation |
| Petit Palais: Cosima von Bonin's The Dollys & The Beaux | October 20-25 | Free exhibition |
| Palais d'Iena: Alice Diop's Geste de Consolation | October 21-25 | Free admission; guided-tour registration opens October 8 |
| Trocadero's Parvis des Droits de l'Homme: Tracey Emin sculptures | October 14-November 1 | Free outdoor installation |
| Cite de l'architecture: Kennedy Yanko | October 16-January 3, 2027 | Paid museum admission; separate from the fair |
The outdoor works are convenient if you have a spare afternoon, but weather can change the visit. Choose one nearby indoor stop as a fallback, checking its own opening time. Free admission does not guarantee an empty room or immediate entry.
October 8: book the Alice Diop guided visit
Miu Miu's announcement confirms free admission to Geste de Consolation from October 21-25, with guided-tour registration on miumiu.com from October 8.
The exhibition brings together film, photography, sculpture and performance at the Palais d'Iena. Book a tour if you want that format; the published release date concerns guided visits, not a paid Art Basel admission ticket. An exact release hour is not stated in that announcement, so check the booking page on the day rather than assuming a midnight or noon opening.
Palais d'Iena and the Grand Palais are different buildings. Save the exhibition address with the reservation so you do not arrive at the fair entrance for a tour elsewhere.
Is the paid fair worth it for a first-time visitor?
Choose the fair if you want a concentrated day looking at modern and contemporary work presented by galleries. It is a sales environment, so the experience differs from a museum collection with a chronological route. You can enjoy looking without planning to buy art.
If your budget is tight, or your Paris weekend has only two free afternoons, try the public installations first. Spending the whole day indoors is less appealing if you mainly want to walk, photograph the city and make occasional art stops. Neither choice requires doing everything.
A guided visit may help if you want context rather than browsing alone. Art Basel's visitor information lists public tours in English and French from Friday to Sunday. You need a valid fair admission ticket as well as a guided-tour ticket. Buying the tour alone does not get you into the fair. On-site bookings depend on availability, and tour tickets are non-refundable.
For younger children, consider a shorter outdoor visit before committing to a long fair day. Soft-looking sculptures are still artworks, not play equipment. Check child admission and stroller arrangements with the organizer rather than assuming the reduced adult rate applies. Our France with kids guide covers the wider family trip.
A manageable route around the Grand Palais
For a free half-day, start at Place Clemenceau, continue along Avenue Winston Churchill, then choose the Petit Palais or the nearby outdoor works. Leave room for lunch and weather changes. These stops make a more coherent outing than racing between every public-programme venue.
For a paid fair day, eat before entry, choose a few booths or artists you want to see, and keep the afternoon flexible. Do the nearby outdoor stops afterward if you still have energy. Avoid a second timed museum booking immediately after the fair: queues and time spent with a work are hard to predict.
For a second afternoon, treat Palais d'Iena and the Trocadero sculptures as a separate outing. Build it around your guided-tour reservation, if you have one. Add the Cite de l'architecture only if you want that museum visit and have allowed for its separate admission.
For a weekend that does not revolve around the fair, one of those routes is enough. Keep the rest for a neighborhood you want to explore. Gallery openings and private parties have their own access rules; "during Art Basel" is not proof that an event is part of the official programme or open without an invitation.
Which Grand Palais entrance and Metro stop should you use?
The fair's venue page identifies the Nef entrance at 7 Avenue Winston Churchill, labeled Entree Gabrielle Chanel. Use the instructions on your own ticket if they assign a different entrance. A general Grand Palais map pin or an old Grand Palais Ephemere guide can send you to the wrong place.
The venue's transport information lists Champs-Elysees - Clemenceau on Metro lines 1 and 13, and Franklin D. Roosevelt on lines 1 and 9. Check your actual starting point and the day's service rather than choosing a station solely because it looks closest on a map.
The Grand Palais describes this event as accessible to visitors with reduced mobility. That does not mean every Metro approach is step-free. Plan the full journey, including the entrance and return trip, and contact the organizer about assistance before buying if you need it.
Leave airport luggage at your accommodation or arrange storage before the visit. Check the fair's current bag and cloakroom conditions before carrying a large bag; this guide does not assume a locker will be available. Bring a light rain layer for the outdoor portion and leave time between a train arrival and a timed tour.
Save your Paris art stops and transport alerts
The Ile-de-France Mobilites app lets you plan journeys, save favorite addresses and receive line traffic alerts. Its accessibility details take lift status into account. Save your hotel, the fair entrance and any separate tour venue before leaving.
Keep the official Art Basel ticket and visitor pages bookmarked for access details. Download booking confirmations in the format provided, and keep a charged phone available for admission. Save a map and a written meeting point for your group; an offline map will not show a new transport disruption.
Before paying for another event, check its organizer, venue and entry terms directly. Do not treat an unsolicited message or a social post using the fair's name as an authorized ticket seller. Your saved reservation should identify the event you bought, not simply say "Paris art week."
Mobile data while moving between venues
OpenSim's useful advantage over relying only on accommodation Wi-Fi is being able to check route changes and booking details while you are out. The France eSIM page listed 1GB for seven days at USD1.40 and 3GB for 15 days at USD3.40, both with top-up support, when checked October 5. These are whole-plan prices, not daily charges. Confirm the current start rule and checkout total before buying.
That can suit a short Paris visit if your home plan charges separately for French data. If it already includes enough roaming data, an extra plan may not help. Data access does not guarantee reception in a busy venue, replace a fair ticket or make an invitation-only event public.
Use the travel data calculator, check phone compatibility, and read when to install your eSIM before departure.
Sources and updates
Prices, dates and venue information were checked against Art Basel, the Grand Palais, Paris je t'aime, Miu Miu and Ile-de-France Mobilites on October 5, 2026. Recheck tour registration on October 8, then the individual project listings and transport information before travelling.
This guide covers the 2026 edition. Public-programme dates differ from the fair dates; older Paris+ venues and previous exhibition lists are not current visiting instructions.
