Busan International Film Festival 2026: tickets, venues and subtitles
The 31st Busan International Film Festival runs from Tuesday, October 6 to Thursday, October 15, 2026. Tickets are already on sale. Opening and closing ceremonies, Open Cinema, Midnight Passion and several special programs went on sale on September 17, followed by general screenings on September 21. Choose films by the official subtitle code, keep two or three backup screenings and avoid scheduling consecutive films in different venue districts.
BIFF has 246 official selections across 31 screens in eight theaters. Most headline screenings are around Busan Cinema Center in Centum City. Community BIFF also uses venues in the older Nampo area. Those districts are connected by metro, but they are not a single festival campus.

Do not plan this trip around the wrong holiday. BIFF does not overlap Chuseok in 2026. The official holiday period was September 24 to 26, with Chuseok Day on September 25. The substitute holiday for National Foundation Day is October 5, just before BIFF, and Hangeul Day falls on October 9 during the festival.

Open Cinema has its own nightly program at the Busan Cinema Center Roof Theater from October 7 to 14 at 8:00 p.m. Check the selected event page because special-program prices and conditions can differ from a standard indoor screening.
How to buy BIFF 2026 tickets from outside Korea
Create a new BIFF ticket account even if you registered in a previous year. The 2026 guide says prior accounts do not carry over, and registration requires email verification.
The official site accepts credit and debit card payments. It does not promise that every foreign-issued card will work, so do not build the whole itinerary around an untested payment method. Complete registration before choosing seats, and have the card's verification method available.
BIFF limits each account to two tickets per screening code. Heavy demand can place visitors in an online queue. Booking another screening may require joining that queue again, so reserve the most important film first rather than trying to complete a long cart.
Save the confirmation and ticket details offline after payment. A screenshot is useful if mobile service slows near the venue, but follow the official ticket instructions if a live barcode or identity check is required.
What to do when a BIFF screening is sold out
The official rule is narrower than many old festival tips suggest. Venue box offices sell only seats that remain unsold or become available after a cancellation. BIFF does not guarantee a same-day allocation for every screening.
Use this order:
- Check the official ticket page again because a cancellation can return a seat.
- Search the same title for another screening date or venue.
- Choose another film in the same time slot and venue district.
- Ask the official box office about current availability after arriving, without assuming a standby seat exists.
Online cancellations are allowed until 60 minutes before a screening, although a fee may apply. That creates occasional late availability. Do not buy through an unverified resale account or send money to a stranger solely because the official allocation is gone.
The Busan Cinema Center outdoor box office is scheduled to operate from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. during the festival. Other venue hours vary. On October 6, that outdoor box office sells next-day general screening tickets rather than a full festival's inventory.
Choose a Busan neighborhood by venue, not by festival branding
Centum City for the main screening cluster
Busan Cinema Center, CGV Centum City, Lotte Cinema Centum City, KOFIC Theater, Sohyang Theatre and the Busan Community Media Center are in or near the Centum City area. This is the practical base for visitors with several main-program screenings.
Visit Busan places Busan Cinema Center about a nine-minute walk from Centum City Station Exit 6 on Metro Line 2. Allow more time for ticket checks, queues, wet weather and finding the correct auditorium.
Nampo for Community BIFF and older Busan
Community BIFF uses MEGABOX Busan Theater and Catholic Center Space 101.1 in the Nampo area. Nampo is on Metro Line 1. Travelers staying there have easier access to Jagalchi, BIFF Square and the older city center, but they need a transfer at Seomyeon for Centum City.
Do not schedule one film in Nampo immediately after a Centum City screening. Allow at least 60 to 90 minutes between districts, then add more time if a discussion runs late or rain slows the walk.
Seomyeon as a transport compromise
Seomyeon is where Metro Lines 1 and 2 meet. It can work for visitors splitting their time between both venue groups, but it is not next door to either. A hotel beside the correct metro exit is more useful than a cheaper room that adds a long uphill or bus journey after the last screening.
BIFF subtitle codes explained
Do not assume an international film automatically has English subtitles. Read the code attached to each screening:

The unmarked category is easy to miss: a Korean-language film without a code has English subtitles. By contrast, a KN screening may not be usable for a visitor who does not understand the film's spoken language.
Guest visits need a second language check. BIFF warns that some Korean-film discussions may not provide English interpretation. Discussions for films in languages other than Korean or English may also lack English interpretation. Treat the film subtitle and the post-screening discussion as separate decisions.
How to build a realistic BIFF day
Two screenings plus one flexible evening activity is a comfortable first day. Three films can work when they are in the same cluster and the schedule leaves time for meals, queues and overruns.
For a Centum City day:
- arrive 45 to 60 minutes before the first priority screening;
- keep lunch close to the cinema district rather than crossing the city;
- leave at least 45 minutes between auditoriums, even within the cluster;
- use Open Cinema as the evening anchor only after checking weather and current ticket availability.
For a mixed day, place Nampo in the morning and Centum City in the late afternoon, or reverse that order. One deliberate cross-city transfer is easier than moving back and forth.
BIFF can also be worthwhile without a celebrity gala. An available film with the correct subtitle code, a filmmaker discussion with confirmed interpretation and an evening around the cinema center usually makes a more dependable plan than waiting all day for an unpromised cancelled seat.
Getting to BIFF from Busan Station and Gimhae Airport
From Busan Station, use Metro Line 1 to Seomyeon and transfer to Line 2 for Centum City. For Nampo venues, remain on Line 1. Travelers arriving by KTX should leave a generous buffer before the first screening because the platform, metro transfer and venue entrance all take time.
Gimhae Airport's light rail connects to Sasang, where travelers can transfer to Metro Line 2 for Centum City. The airport also lists limousine services toward Haeundae and Gijang, including stops around Shinsegae Centum City and BEXCO. Airport schedules can change, so check the official transport page on the arrival day.
A taxi may be useful with luggage or after late activity, but road traffic can erase its time advantage. Keep the destination name in Korean and confirm the exact cinema, not only “BIFF.”
Accessibility, children and theater rules
BIFF announced 11 barrier-free titles for 2026. Wheelchair spaces are handled separately from ordinary online seats. The ticket guide says online wheelchair-seat booking is unavailable; visitors should use the published pre-registration route or ask about remaining spaces on site. Bring the required identification or disability documentation when using a dedicated allocation.
Limited same-day and next-day tickets are also set aside for eligible senior and disabled visitors. Those seats are not a general rush-ticket pool.
Children under four are not admitted, even with an adult. For older children, check the film rating and running time before booking. A subtitle being available does not make the film age-appropriate.
Arrive before the screening starts. BIFF may refuse entry after 15 minutes, and a late visitor is not guaranteed the reserved seat. Photography and video recording are prohibited inside the theater, including trailers and end credits.
Weather, apps and files to save offline
Busan in early October can move between mild daytime weather, cooler evenings and rain. Outdoor screenings need a warmer layer than an afternoon queue. Use a compact rain jacket rather than an umbrella that blocks views in an entry line.
Keep these tools ready:
- BIFF ticket site and schedule: save booking confirmations, screening codes, subtitle codes and venue names.
- Busan Metro map: download the official map and mark Centum City, Seomyeon and Nampo.
- Naver Map or KakaoMap: useful for Korean addresses and last-mile walking routes.
- Papago: download Korean language support and save the hotel and cinema names.
- KORAIL or the official rail booking channel: recheck KTX details if arriving from Seoul.
- Korea weather service: review rain and wind before an outdoor screening.
Agree on a meeting point outside the theater before entering. Phones must be silent during the film, and a crowded lobby is a poor place to find a companion by live location alone.
Mobile data for tickets, maps and schedule changes
Mobile data helps with ticket availability, Korean maps, metro routing, translation and group messages. It cannot create a seat at a sold-out screening or guarantee full speed in a crowded plaza, so save every essential item offline.
