China Southern began flying from Guangzhou to Addis Ababa via Changsha on October 12, 2026. Flight CZ8095 keeps the same number through both sectors, but it is not a nonstop Guangzhou-Addis Ababa flight. The new link operates only twice a week, and its local departure times change on October 25.

The short answer: CZ8095 leaves Guangzhou on Mondays and Fridays, stops in Changsha, and arrives in Addis Ababa at 20:00. CZ8096 returns on the same two days and reaches China the following afternoon. Confirm the Changsha process, baggage tag and any passport-specific transit requirements at check-in because the public timetable does not settle those details for every booking.

The route started on October 12

A China civil aviation report says the inaugural CZ8095 departed on October 12 with 224 passengers. China Southern's route page lists the service on Mondays and Fridays, while the Civil Aviation Administration of China says it uses a Boeing 787.

The aircraft type can change for operational reasons. Use the flight number, date and live seat map in the booking rather than treating the 787 as guaranteed.

For a passenger starting in Guangzhou, this is a one-stop service through Changsha. For a passenger joining in Changsha, it is a nonstop flight to Addis Ababa. Search results and booking screens can shorten the itinerary differently, so read every sector before paying.

CZ8095 and CZ8096 times change on October 25

All times are local and come from China Southern's published route timetable. The service runs on Monday and Friday in both directions. The return flight crosses into the following calendar day before reaching Changsha and Guangzhou.

Twice-weekly service leaves less room to recover from a cancellation than a daily route. Check the operating date again before committing to a separate flight, tour or nonrefundable hotel.

Treat Changsha as a real intermediate stop

The same CZ8095 number appears on Guangzhou-Changsha and Changsha-Addis Ababa, but that does not answer whether every passenger stays on board, follows an international transfer path or completes another document check. Procedures can also differ after an aircraft change or for a traveler joining in Changsha.

At the first check-in counter, ask three direct questions:

  1. Must passengers leave the aircraft in Changsha?
  2. Is checked baggage tagged to ADD or only to CSX?
  3. Which documents will staff inspect during the stop?

Keep your passport, boarding pass, medication and essential electronics in the cabin. Follow the crew's instructions in Changsha even if another passenger had a different experience on an earlier flight.

Do not assume that the through flight number removes Chinese transit or entry rules. The answer can depend on passport, documents, airport procedure and whether the itinerary changes. China Southern and the relevant immigration authority should confirm the rule for the actual booking.

Check the bag tag, not just the booking screen

China Southern's public route announcement does not state a route-specific checked-bag allowance. Allowances can vary by cabin, fare and ticket. Read the baggage line on the issued ticket and price any extra bag before travel.

At Guangzhou or Addis Ababa, inspect the printed tag before the bag leaves the counter. It should show the airport where the airline expects you to collect it. If the tag shows CSX rather than ADD or CAN, ask what must happen in Changsha.

For a separate onward ticket in Addis Ababa, assume you may need to enter the country, collect the bag and check in again unless both airlines confirm otherwise. A through bag is not the same as protection for a missed connection.

Plan for counter and document checks

China Southern's online check-in agreement excludes some transit itineraries and passengers who require special handling. A completed online step also does not replace a baggage drop, passport check, security screening or boarding deadline.

The airline's Guangzhou guidance tells international passengers who check in online to exchange their boarding pass at the P4 counter at least 60 minutes before departure. Arrive much earlier than that cutoff, particularly while the route is new and staff are handling the Changsha transfer process.

Passengers starting in Changsha should use the deadline in their booking and confirm the international check-in area before travel. Passengers starting in Addis Ababa should check China Southern's local counter information and the airport display rather than relying on a terminal detail copied from an older trip report.

Be careful with separate Addis Ababa connections

The 20:00 arrival can connect with later departures, but a timetable match does not prove that two flights share one protected ticket. Confirm whether the onward flight appears on the same ticket number, where the bag is tagged and which airline is responsible if CZ8095 is late.

On separate tickets, allow time for entry formalities, baggage delivery, a possible terminal process and the next airline's check-in cutoff. The route's Monday-and-Friday pattern also matters on the return: a missed CZ8096 may not have another China Southern departure for several days.

Check Ethiopia entry rules for your passport

Ethiopia's official eVisa information says applicants need a passport valid for at least six months from the intended entry date. The tourist eVisa page says normal processing can take up to three days and advises applying at least three days before departure.

Eligibility and required documents depend on nationality, trip purpose and the rules in force on the travel date. An approved eVisa does not guarantee entry, and a traveler making an airside connection may face different requirements from someone entering Ethiopia. Use the official portal and check the airline's document guidance for the exact itinerary.

Mobile data during the China part of the trip

A China eSIM can provide ground data before departure in Guangzhou, during time spent in Changsha and elsewhere in mainland China. Check the selected plan's allowance, validity, network notes and top-up status before purchase.

OpenSim does not currently list an Ethiopia plan. A China eSIM will not provide Ethiopian coverage, so arrange a separate connectivity option for Addis Ababa and any onward travel. It also does not work in flight or replace saved copies of the itinerary, visa and accommodation details.

Ten questions about China Southern's Addis Ababa route

Is CZ8095 nonstop from Guangzhou to Addis Ababa?

No. CZ8095 stops in Changsha. The Changsha-Addis Ababa sector is nonstop, but a passenger starting in Guangzhou takes two flight sectors under the same number.

Which days does China Southern fly to Addis Ababa?

The published schedule lists Monday and Friday departures in both directions. Check the booking again because a twice-weekly pattern makes date mistakes harder to recover from.

Why do the departure times move on October 25?

CZ8095 leaves Guangzhou and Changsha earlier from October 25. CZ8096 keeps its 23:00 Addis Ababa departure but reaches Changsha and Guangzhou earlier the following day.

Do passengers leave the aircraft in Changsha?

China Southern's public timetable does not give one universal instruction. Ask at the first counter and follow the crew's directions during the stop.

Is a Chinese transit visa required for the Changsha stop?

Do not infer the answer from the flight number. The requirement can depend on passport, documents and the airport process, so confirm it with China Southern and the relevant Chinese immigration authority before departure.

Will checked baggage go through to Addis Ababa?

Ask the agent and inspect the bag tag. A tag ending in ADD indicates the airline expects the bag to travel to Addis Ababa, but follow any collection or inspection instructions given in Changsha.

What baggage allowance applies to my ticket?

The allowance depends on the cabin, fare and issued ticket. The route announcement does not publish a single allowance for every passenger.

Can I check in online for CZ8095 or CZ8096?

Online check-in may be unavailable for some transit itineraries or passengers who need document review. Plan enough time for the airport counter even if the online step succeeds.

Is a separate onward ticket in Addis Ababa protected?

Usually not. Unless the airlines confirm protection, allow time to enter, collect bags and check in again, and understand what happens if the first flight is delayed.

Does an OpenSim China eSIM work in Ethiopia?

No. It covers the selected plan's supported networks in China, not Ethiopia. OpenSim does not currently list an Ethiopia plan.

What to recheck before travel

Recheck the flight status, operating day and local time, especially for travel on or after October 25. Confirm the Changsha transit process, bag destination, airport deadlines and passport-specific document rules directly against the booking.

We will update this guide if China Southern materially changes the route, timetable, frequency, flight numbers, aircraft, transfer instructions or baggage and check-in rules. The airline and CAAC support the route facts, while Ethiopia's official eVisa portal supports the entry-preparation guidance.
