Cinemed 2026 Montpellier: new venues, tickets and films

Cinemed continues in Montpellier through Saturday, October 24, 2026, after moving out of the closed Corum. Screenings are now centred on Pathé Comédie and Centre Rabelais, with talks and workshops at other city-centre locations. Use the revised festival programme before buying tickets or setting out: an earlier venue or screening time may no longer apply.
The organizer's October 8 announcement confirms the reorganization, not a cancellation of the festival. Pathé Comédie has made its cinema available for the event. The photograph above is from 2017, when the building carried Gaumont signage; it does not show the current festival entrance arrangements.
Where Cinemed screenings and talks take place now
The October 13 venue update separates activities across several locations:
| What you are attending | Current location |
|---|---|
| Main film screenings | Pathé Comédie and Centre Rabelais |
| Festival information, ticket desk and bookshop | 10 place de la Comédie, beside Pathé Comédie |
| Talks and round tables | Auditorium of Musée Fabre |
| Image-education activities | Échelles de la Ville, Polygone, opposite Mille formes |
Save the location for your actual event, including the room number. A film followed by a director discussion may involve a different venue; do not assume every item in a filmmaker's programme happens in the same building.
Give yourself a gap between activities. The time printed for the next session is not time available to leave the previous room, find another entrance and queue. Choose a smaller number of sessions that you can attend without rushing.
Use the revised timetable, not an old programme image
The festival links its new schedule grids and live programme from the official site. Check the individual film record again on the day, especially if you saved a timetable before the move.
The October 16 changes notice moved several screenings following demonstrations scheduled for October 17. For the remaining week, it lists I Matter on October 19 at 16:15 in Pathé Comédie room 3, and Black Medusa on October 19 at 18:45 in room 8. It also moves the Marco Bellocchio discussion to October 23 at 10:30 in the Musée Fabre auditorium.
Those are specific programme changes, not a claim that demonstrations will disrupt every remaining day. Keep the film name, date, time and room together in your notes. A screenshot showing only the title can be surprisingly unhelpful once a programme changes.
If a booked screening has moved, ask the festival about the ticket you hold. Do not assume every reservation automatically transfers to another performance or that a general cinema refund rule governs a festival booking.
Choose tickets for the visits you can still make
The current practical information lists ordinary tickets at €8, five-ticket booklets at €32.50, ten-ticket booklets at €55, and the festival pass at €90. Booklets exclude opening, closing and hors-les-murs screenings; the pass excludes La Nuit en enfer.
Five eligible full-price singles total €40, so the booklet saves €7.50 when fully used. For two films, singles total €16. Choose for the days you can still attend.
Check concessions, session eligibility and capacity before purchasing.
Use the festival's ticket links, not an assumption about the cinema's usual loyalty offers.
Closing night: confirm the current screening record
The film record for Nicole Garcia's 7h40 ce matin-là currently lists October 24 at 20:00 in Pathé Comédie rooms 1 and 7. It identifies the director's presence with the room 1 entry and gives a running time of 1 hour 54 minutes.
The general practical page still shows an earlier closing-evening time. Check the actual session and your booking confirmation rather than planning from that older general entry. Do not assume that a guest listed for one room will appear in every simultaneous screening.
If you are taking a train or meeting someone afterwards, leave time beyond the film's running length. Introductions, leaving the room and the walk to your departure point still belong in the plan.
What can families watch during the remaining week?
The current film page lists Le Monde à l'envers, a 45-minute animation programme, at Centre Rabelais on October 20 at 10:30. Its short running time may be more manageable than a feature for some children, but it does not establish suitability for every age or language level.
The 2026 children's strand also lists an ESMA animation programme on October 19 at 10:00 in Pathé Comédie room 7. Check the whole programme length, content and available admission before promising it to a child.
Use the October edition's listings, not a separate school festival page from another season. A general animation label is not a guarantee that a film has no dialogue, English subtitles or a toddler-friendly theme.
For a longer family holiday, the France with kids guide covers wider trip planning. Leave time around a screening for food and a break rather than making a child spend the entire day moving between dark rooms.
English-speaking visitors need a film-by-film language check
The CNC's overview of this edition describes a Mediterranean programme spanning films, retrospectives and filmmaker encounters. That variety is a reason to check each work's language rather than assume a festival-wide English option.
Look for the original language and the subtitle language separately. Original version does not necessarily mean English audio; a film in Arabic, Italian or another language may still need subtitles you can read. The closing film record, for example, is labelled VOFR, not an advertised English-subtitled screening.
If the listing leaves the version field blank or you need English interpretation at a talk, ask the festival before purchasing. Do not infer interpretation from a guest's nationality or from a cinema's usual commercial screenings.
Accessibility depends on the room
The practical page identifies Pathé Comédie room 1 as inaccessible to people with reduced mobility, and Centre Rabelais as accessible. Confirm your particular entrance and assistance needs before booking.
The current talks programme includes Pablo Berger on October 19 at 17:00 and the Vittorio De Sica discussion on October 24 at 16:00, both in the Musée Fabre auditorium. Check admission, language and access for that auditorium rather than assuming a film ticket resolves those questions.
The two venue pages disagree on ticket-desk closing time. Confirm directly if late collection is essential.
Montpellier trams are not automatically free for visitors
TaM's free-transport guidance describes a scheme for metropolitan residents using a valid Pass gratuité. A tourist should not assume that seeing other passengers board without buying a ticket means their own journey is free.
The operator's M'Ticket information explains smartphone ticket purchase and activation. If you bought a ticket in advance, activate it before the journey; its validity then begins immediately, and its QR code is shown from the active-tickets area during inspection.
Set up the app before you are waiting at a stop. If your phone cannot run it reliably, check another official purchase option in advance. Buying data is not a substitute for a transport ticket or a working payment method.
For arrival and departure, use the exact station or airport printed on your booking in the operator's journey planner. Keep a return option that works after your last screening rather than assuming daytime frequency continues late into the evening.
Mobile data for changed rooms, maps and tickets
Save your booking, the revised room details, accommodation address and return route before leaving Wi-Fi. Keep enough battery for the journey back. A friend should be able to find the meeting point even if one phone stops working.
For visitors whose home plan does not include suitable French roaming, OpenSim France plans provide small prepaid allowances: the public catalog checked October 18 lists 1GB for seven days at US$1.40 and 3GB for 15 days at US$3.40, both eligible for top-up. That can suit checking programme changes and messaging across a short Montpellier stay without paying for a large streaming allowance. Your existing plan may already cover those tasks.
Use the travel data calculator, check phone compatibility and review installation timing. An additional plan does not guarantee indoor reception, extend ticket validity or reserve a seat.
Cinemed updates and photograph
The linked festival, CNC, TaM and public OpenSim information was checked on October 18, 2026. Recheck individual sessions, room access, ticket conditions and the last return service before departure. Update this guide for material changes through October 24; it is not a schedule for the next edition.
