Dutch Design Week 2026: tickets and a practical Eindhoven route

Dutch Design Week runs in Eindhoven from October 17 to 25, 2026. A regular ticket costs EUR29.50 through October 10, rising to EUR32.50 on October 11. You can visit selected exhibitions free, but the paid wristband covers venues such as Klokgebouw and the Design Academy Eindhoven Graduation Show.

One day is worthwhile if you choose a small route. Start with Strijp-S and the graduation show near Eindhoven Centraal, rather than trying to cross the whole city. Two days leave more room for conversations, workshops and a second district.

The organizer's September 29 highlights announcement adds Building TT and Building TX to the 2026 programme. It also points to projects such as a full-size printed house and new work about AI and privacy. This is a design exhibition spread across the city, not simply a shop for finished furniture. Some projects ask you to read, participate or discuss an idea.

Prices and operational details were checked October 5, 2026. All times are local Eindhoven time.

Which Dutch Design Week ticket do you need?

The official ticket page lists these prices, including VAT and service fees. Buy from its linked seller and check the final selection before paying.

TicketThrough October 10From October 11Decision
RegularEUR29.50EUR32.50Choose it for the paid exhibition venues
Youth or studentEUR17.50EUR19.50Check age or student-ID eligibility
Children aged 11 and underFreeFreeDo not buy a paid child ticket unnecessarily
Free-access programmeNo exhibition admission chargeNo exhibition admission chargeChoose entries explicitly marked free

The detailed conditions specify the youth rate for ages 12-17, or students with valid student identification. The ticket card uses a wider age label, so an 18-year-old without qualifying student ID should confirm eligibility instead of assuming a discount.

The NS event page confirms that the entrance ticket is exchanged for a personal wristband, valid across the nine days while it remains on your wrist. A one-day visit does not require a separate nine-day commitment. Keep the band on if you will return.

The festival FAQ permits repeat entry during opening hours, but another queue may be required. Do not treat a wristband as a reserved entrance time. Most venues also lack a cloakroom or lockers, so bring less rather than relying on somewhere to leave a suitcase.

Is the family ticket cheaper?

The DDW Young & Education page lists a EUR88 family ticket, sold at the door for eligible groups of up to four people, with no more than two adults. Included older children must meet the youth or student conditions. The group must be present together.

Compare your actual group before buying. At the pre-October 11 rates, two regular tickets and two youth tickets total EUR94, so EUR88 would save EUR6. Two adults with children aged 11 and under need only the adult tickets, totaling EUR59 at those rates.

There is a discrepancy to resolve at purchase: the current ticket and education pages list EUR88, while the FAQ still lists EUR70. Ask the ticket desk to confirm the charge and group eligibility; do not budget on the lower FAQ figure alone.

Three exhibitions to build a route around

Use the official programme to filter by your interests, then check admission and the exact location on each entry. The following anchors all list October 17-25 opening hours of 11:00-18:00.

ExhibitionArea and addressAdmissionWhat to look for
Class of 26Strijp-S, Klokgebouw 50DDW ticketGraduate projects from several Dutch and international design schools
House of LightsStrijp-S, KetelhuispleinFreeTAM Industries' full-scale house with a printed recycled-plastic facade
Design Academy Eindhoven Graduation ShowStation area, Professor Doctor Dorgelolaan 2DDW ticketBachelor and master projects, films, installations and discussions

Class of 26 lets you compare work from different schools in one exhibition. Its listing marks full wheelchair access, accessible toilets and free Wi-Fi. Read individual projects rather than assuming every school is presenting the same kind of object.

House of Lights is the free anchor at Ketelhuisplein. The programme lists partial wheelchair access and an accessible toilet. That distinction matters: a free outdoor location is not a promise that every part of the installation is accessible.

The Graduation Show spreads projects across galleries and other spaces, with an Arena for discussions and workshops. Its listing marks full wheelchair access and accessible toilets. Give yourself time to stop at work that interests you; it is a poor choice for a rushed ten-minute tick on a list.

A manageable one-day Eindhoven itinerary

This is a suggested route, not a booked tour or a guarantee of queue times. Change the order to suit your arrival station and the exhibitions you care about.

  1. Before 11:00: arrive, collect your wristband if needed and save your return journey. Have breakfast or coffee before exhibitions open.
  2. Late morning: explore Class of 26 and selected Klokgebouw projects. Leave time to speak with exhibitors rather than photographing every stand.
  3. Lunch: take a proper break around Strijp-S. Add House of Lights at Ketelhuisplein without making a separate cross-city trip.
  4. Afternoon: travel to the station area for the Graduation Show. Keep a generous transfer margin and stop adding venues if a queue consumes it.
  5. Before leaving: check the next train and any restrictions on your ticket. End with one nearby project only if you still have time.

For two days, keep the graduation show and station-area work on one day, then use the other for Strijp-S and an additional area chosen from the map. Building TT, Building TX or Sectie-C should be a deliberate choice based on their current programme, not three more compulsory stops.

If you want a free visit, use only entries labeled free access. House of Lights is one confirmed example; it does not establish that every Strijp-S interior is free. Workshops and talks may have separate registration requirements.

Should you stay overnight or make a day trip?

For a first visit, compare the full cost of a day trip with an overnight stay before booking. Include the return fare, the last usable departure and any extra journey from a cheaper room outside Eindhoven. A low room price helps little if your chosen talks end after the connection home.

An overnight stay is more useful when you want two exhibition days or time for conversations without watching the last train. Check the cancellation terms and actual route to the venues; this guide does not establish which hotel is cheapest or has rooms available.

Trains, airport buses and Design Rides

The organizer's transport guidance identifies Eindhoven Centraal for intercity arrivals and Strijp-S for local trains. Walking within a district is practical; crossing between districts needs extra time. City buses are an alternative when cycling does not suit you.

For an airport arrival, Eindhoven Airport lists buses 400 and 401 between the terminal and Eindhoven Centraal. A train ticket described as going to Eindhoven Airport still involves a bus for that final leg. Check the current journey rather than searching for a nonexistent airport train platform.

Read the NS combination ticket's restrictions

The NS DDW offer combines an off-peak return to Eindhoven Centraal with festival admission. It is sold through October 16 for visits October 17-25.

On weekdays, its permitted train periods are before 06:30, 09:00-16:00 and after 18:30; weekends and public holidays are all day. The restriction applies while you are on the train, not just when you board. Starting at 15:55 does not allow you to remain aboard into the afternoon peak. Check engineering work, supplements and the selected ticket's conditions before buying.

A Design Ride registration is not a reservation

Polestar Design Rides require both registration and a valid DDW wristband. They operate between official locations from 11:00 to 18:00, with pickup points including Ketelhuisplein, the Graduation Show, Piet Hein Eek and Sectie-C.

Registration does not guarantee a journey or departure time. Busy periods and rain can mean waiting. Keep a walking or public-transport option for any timed talk or train connection.

If you rent a bicycle, confirm availability and return arrangements before building the day around it. The organizer lists rental points at Ketelhuisplein and Fuutlaan, with identification required. Do not assume a station bike will be waiting for every visitor.

Children, access needs and a wet-weather plan

For families, choose work the children can engage with and keep the route short. DDW Young & Education has age-oriented routes and activities; check each selected activity for registration. A school-age child's interest in making or materials is more useful than a general claim that the whole festival suits every age.

The accessibility guide explains the venue-level access labels. It identifies a low-stimulus room at Klokgebouw, shared with breastfeeding use and therefore sometimes unavailable. There are no dedicated low-stimulus opening periods; the organizer says Monday tends to be quieter. It also warns that epilepsy triggers are not always marked clearly at entrances.

Read individual access information before choosing a route, and contact the organizer about specific needs. Do not infer that an accessible exhibition makes its entire journey step-free.

Plan a rain alternative within the same area: an indoor exhibition plus a seated meal is more realistic than crossing the city repeatedly. Carry a waterproof layer and a small bag. For a wider family holiday, our Netherlands with kids guide covers the separate country-level planning decisions.

Apps, saved tickets and mobile data between venues

The official DDW app is available for iPhone and Android. Use the programme to shortlist venues; save addresses, admission details and any reservation confirmations before leaving accommodation Wi-Fi. Keep your ticket accessible and enough battery for the journey home.

The NS app is useful for rail disruptions and the return train. For local bus connections, the airport links to the 9292 journey planner. Save your accommodation address as well as the exhibition names, which can refer to temporary spaces.

When OpenSim fits this Eindhoven visit

Class of 26 lists free venue Wi-Fi. If your existing mobile plan includes suitable Netherlands roaming, that may cover the rest of your visit without another purchase.

For travelers without an included allowance, OpenSim Netherlands plans checked October 5 included 1GB for seven days at USD1.24 and 3GB for 15 days at USD3, with top-up support listed for those plans. These are whole-plan prices, not per-day prices. Check the current selected package before buying.

OpenSim's useful role here is mobile data between Wi-Fi stops: checking a changed train, finding a temporary venue and messaging your group. It does not replace the DDW wristband, reserve a Design Ride or guarantee reception inside every exhibition. A short maps-and-messages visit needs a different allowance from uploading design videos throughout the day.

Use the travel data calculator, check phone eSIM compatibility, and read when to install a travel eSIM before departure.

Sources and updates

OpenSim's editorial team checked the organizer's ticket pages, programme entries, access guidance, airport transport and NS offer on October 5, 2026. The route timings are planning suggestions, not measured queue or travel times. Official venue entries control opening hours, admission and reservations.

Recheck ticket prices at the October 11 change, then verify the selected venues and train journey before traveling. This guide should be updated if the organizer resolves the family-ticket discrepancy or changes the programme, access arrangements or transport rules.
