Europe's autumn clock change is on Sunday, October 25, 2026. In the UK, 02:00 becomes 01:00; in Paris and Prague, 03:00 becomes 02:00. For travel, check your booking's date and local time, and ask the operator which occurrence it means if your departure falls in the repeated hour.

An early flight, a sleeper train and a call home need different checks. Some overnight trains have planned waits. A phone can show the right local time while an old calendar entry still needs attention. And New York changes a week later, so the familiar transatlantic time difference temporarily changes.

What time do the clocks go back on October 25?

GOV.UK confirms the UK change from British Summer Time to Greenwich Mean Time. The Finnish transport ministry's October notice confirms that EU members change at the same instant, although their local clocks show different hours.

Example cityLocal clock changeTime after the change
London02:00 back to 01:00GMT, UTC+0
Paris or Prague03:00 back to 02:00CET, UTC+1
Helsinki04:00 back to 03:00EET, UTC+2

Paris remains one hour ahead of London. Helsinki remains two hours ahead. Do not adjust a London-to-Paris appointment twice simply because both places change their clocks.

These examples are not a timetable for every European territory. Check the actual city in your booking rather than treating "Europe" as one time zone.

Does the clock change alter the time on my flight booking?

Flight itineraries normally show departure in the departure airport's local time and arrival in the arrival airport's local time. Voyage Privé explains that convention for its travel documents. Use the airline's current booking and flight-status information for your particular journey.

If your Sunday flight is listed at 08:00, do not add an hour yourself because you bought the ticket during summer time. Check for an actual schedule-change notice. Recalculate when to leave your accommodation using the correct Sunday local time, allowing the airport's required check-in and boarding time.

A calendar entry made months ago is not a substitute for the booking. Compare the flight number, travel date, departure airport and current scheduled time. If an old confirmation and the airline's current record disagree, resolve that with the airline before leaving.

A departure inside the repeated hour needs confirmation

In London, 01:30 occurs twice that night: once during BST and again during GMT. In Prague, the ambiguous hour is 02:00 to 02:59 instead.

If a ticket gives only a repeated local time, ask the carrier to identify the intended occurrence, preferably with the time-zone abbreviation or UTC offset. Do not choose the later occurrence based on a forum reply or a guessed flight duration. If you cannot resolve it immediately, allow enough time to be present for the earlier possibility and speak to staff.

For a departure shortly after midnight, check the calendar date too. A Sunday 00:30 departure usually means setting off on Saturday evening, not arriving on Sunday night. Keep the booking reference available so staff can check the actual service.

Some night trains wait; others have different instructions

České dráhy's October 20 notice identifies ten overnight long-distance services that will wait at suitable stations during the October 24-25 change. It lists departures in standard Central European Time, marked SEČ in Czech.

Selected examples from that notice:

ServiceWaiting stationDeparture after the change, CET
EN 406 ChopinOstrava hlavní nádraží02:48
Nightjet 456Pardubice hlavní nádraží02:07
EC 460 Baltic expressInowrocław02:10

The same notice gives a different treatment for IC 579 Brněnský drak: its 00:01 departure from Prague and 02:49 arrival in Brno are expressed in summer time for that journey. Check your train number rather than assuming every overnight train follows one rule. ČD directs passengers to Můj vlak and its live train page.

These examples explain the clock-change arrangements, not the complete timetable or availability. Keep your reservation and check the current service record before boarding.

Check coaches and the connection after the train

RegioJet's dated notice separately covers four night trains and six coach services. Its Sunday, October 25 Brno-to-Vienna coach at 02:15 is specified in standard time. Other listed coach stops use summer time. A departure in that hour cannot be interpreted safely without the service-specific instruction.

Arriva's October 20 update also distinguishes selected Prague integrated-transport night buses by the time their run begins. It says lines 916, 917 and 953 have an additional pair of journeys. That is an operator-specific arrangement, not a promise of extra buses throughout Europe.

Check the last leg as carefully as the sleeper: the airport bus, local train or pickup meeting. A correct long-distance booking does not establish that a separate connection runs at the time you remember.

New York is four hours behind London for one week

The US National Institute of Standards and Technology confirms that US daylight saving time ends on November 1, 2026, in places observing it. London changes on October 25. That creates a week with a shorter time difference.

At noon in LondonNew York local timeParis local time
October 2407:0013:00
October 25-3108:0013:00
November 1, after the US change07:0013:00

For example, a 09:00 New York call is at 13:00 in London during October 25-31, rather than 14:00. Confirm the date and named city for a remote-work meeting, family call or timed booking release. Do not copy this table to every US state or Canadian province: clock-change rules have exceptions.

For an actual flight, use its dated itinerary rather than deriving its arrival from the time difference alone. Elapsed flying time and the local arrival clock are different measurements.

Check your phone's time zone before setting the alarm

On iPhone, Apple's current guidance recommends an internet connection, current software and Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically. Its instructions also cover Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Setting Time Zone. Follow the device guidance if the setting is unavailable or the displayed time remains wrong.

On Android, Google's Clock instructions distinguish automatic date and time from automatic time zone. Check both. Menu names and availability vary by device; location may be used to identify the zone. You can also add home and destination cities to World Clock.

Before sleeping, compare the displayed city or zone with where you are, inspect your alarm and check its volume. Do not assume that changing a watch face, installing an eSIM or setting the time manually fixes every calendar or alarm app.

If your wake-up falls inside the repeated hour, check how your particular alarm app handles it and arrange a backup. For a hotel wake-up call or driver collection, give the date and clarify whether you mean summer or standard time. Avoid relying on two devices that simply mirror the same setting.

Save the booking, but keep a way to check changes

Before leaving Wi-Fi, save the itinerary, station or terminal, accommodation address and operator contact details. Check the issuer's display rules: a screenshot is not valid for every ticket. Our rail-ticket offline guide explains why a stored PDF, an app ticket and a live display are not interchangeable.

An existing mobile plan that includes your destinations may be sufficient. If it does not, OpenSim gives you a separate, defined data allowance for checking operator updates and messaging a pickup driver away from Wi-Fi. On October 24, the public catalog listed UK 1 GB for 7 days at USD 1.14 and Europe 1 GB for 7 days at USD 5.80, both with top-up available. Check the selected plan's current terms and country list before buying.

For a London-only trip, compare OpenSim UK plans. For travel across countries, use the Europe plan comparison and confirm the actual itinerary is covered. A regional data plan does not mean the covered countries share one time zone.

OpenSim is not required for the clock change and does not determine a departure time. Mobile data helps retrieve the operator's latest information; it cannot guarantee signal on a train or settle an ambiguous ticket. Check phone compatibility, installation timing and the travel data calculator before departure.

What to check before setting off

  1. Open the current booking for the correct travel date.
  2. Confirm the airport or station and its local time zone.
  3. Resolve any departure inside the repeated hour with the operator.
  4. Read the overnight service notice and check separate connections.
  5. Check phone settings, alarm volume and a backup wake-up arrangement.
  6. Save the ticket in an accepted format and keep the booking reference.
  7. Recheck status before leaving your accommodation.

OpenSim editorial team checked the linked official clock, operator and device guidance and public package information on October 24, 2026. The overnight examples apply to October 24-25; the New York comparison applies to the stated 2026 dates. Check live services for cancellations or later changes.
