EURORANDO 2026 guide: routes, shuttles and border planning

EURORANDO 2026 takes place from Sunday, September 20 to Sunday, September 27 in the Ore Mountains on both sides of the Czech-German border. Boží Dar, Loučná pod Klínovcem and Kurort Oberwiesenthal are the main centers. Guided hikes run from September 21 to 25, while the cross-border parade takes place on September 26.

The difficult part is not buying the EUR 10 festival ticket. It is matching the right base town, route reservation and departure point. Most guided walks use festival buses, but several routes start directly in Boží Dar or Oberwiesenthal and have no route shuttle. Make that distinction before booking accommodation.

The practical plan: stay in one of the three transport hubs, reserve each guided walk after buying the festival ticket, save the newly published departure table, arrive 15 minutes before the listed shuttle time and carry water, food, cash, ID and an offline map. Do not assume the same bus stop serves every route.

This guide was checked on September 15, 2026. The organizer published practical arrival advice on September 9 and a detailed trip-departure table on September 14, so recheck both shortly before each walk.

EURORANDO 2026 dates and daily choices

The organizer describes about 50 guided and individual routes of different difficulties. Do not choose from the name or photograph alone. Open the route page and compare distance, ascent, expected duration, language, start point, food availability and icons for transport or facilities.

What the EUR 10 ticket includes

The official festival ticket covers the full week. It lets the holder reserve selected guided hikes, attend the supporting program and use shuttle buses to most guided-route starts. It also includes a welcome package with a printed guide, regional map and wooden participant plaque.

It does not include travel to the Ore Mountains, food on a hike, all-day bus excursions or extra adventures. Those can require separate payment and reservation. The organizer directs ticket sales through GoOut and says the ticket can be shown as a QR code on a phone. Save it offline, but retain access to the GoOut account in case the code has to be recovered.

Buying the ticket does not reserve a specific walk. Complete the separate route booking while suitable places remain.

Choose a base before choosing a route

For one guided hike, start with the route and work backwards to the base. For several days, Oberwiesenthal offers the broadest German transport connections, while Boží Dar reduces friction for Czech starts and the opening. Loučná is useful when a car and the Keilberg pickup fit the itinerary.

Do not change hotels every night merely to follow the program. An early shuttle from a fixed base is usually easier than repacking after a full day outside.

Shuttle stops and the routes without a bus

Registered participants can reach most guided-route starts from three points:

• Boží Dar: Stone Heart of Europe;
• Loučná pod Klínovcem: Keilberg parking area; and
• Kurort Oberwiesenthal: P1 parking area.

The current guided-route page says there is no route shuttle for routes 00, 11, 14, 25 and 26. Routes 00, 11 and 14 start in Oberwiesenthal; routes 25 and 26 start in Boží Dar. The official FAQ and older material are less precise, so use the current route page and the September departure table for the booked walk.

The organizer's departure table lists pickup times from each hub and expected returns. It asks participants to arrive at least 15 minutes early. Save the row for your route as an image or PDF rather than relying on a long page loading at the stop.

Large organized groups using ordinary public transport should contact the operator for the first leg in advance. VMS recommends at least seven days, but registration does not guarantee capacity. Individuals should still avoid planning the final possible connection after a hike.

How to get to EURORANDO

From Prague

The organizer's arrival guide lists regular services from Prague Airport to Karlovy Vary, followed by local transport to Boží Dar. It currently describes the airport-to-Karlovy Vary bus at about 2 hours 15 minutes and the Karlovy Vary-to-Boží Dar bus at about 55 minutes. These are scheduled estimates, not a protected connection.

Allow a substantial transfer margin for baggage, a delayed flight and a separate local ticket. The organizer also lists a once-daily FlixBus corridor linking Prague Airport, Karlovy Vary and Oberwiesenthal, but its operating day and seat availability must be checked for the actual date.

From Dresden or Leipzig

From Dresden Airport, the organizer's route uses S-Bahn S2 to Dresden-Neustadt, RE3 toward Flöha, RB30 to Chemnitz, bus 210 toward Annaberg-Buchholz and bus 411 to Oberwiesenthal. From Leipzig Airport, the suggested public route starts with S5X and RE6 toward Chemnitz.

That is a chain of connections, not one through train. Search the full itinerary again on travel day. A route through Cranzahl and the Fichtelberg Railway can be more memorable, but it is slower and should be part of the day rather than a tight airport transfer.

Crossing between Czechia and Germany

The festival area crosses a Schengen border, but the organizer still advises EU and Schengen visitors to carry valid identity cards and other international visitors to carry passports.

Germany uses euros and Czechia uses Czech koruna. The organizer says cards are common but cannot be relied on everywhere, and it warns that some areas have insufficient mobile coverage. Carry both a payment card and useful cash for the side of the border being visited.

Which EURORANDO route suits your day?

Choose by the constraint that matters most:

• Short or recovery day: select a documented shorter route near the base and keep an indoor cultural option for poor weather.
• Mining heritage: identify a mine, technical monument or UNESCO landscape stop, then check whether entry is included.
• Cross-border walk: confirm that the route actually crosses the border and carry the recommended identity document.
• Long challenge: the new Stoneman Miriquidi option is a separate endurance decision. The September 9 release describes a 62 km hike and an 86 km trail run.
• Independent walk: download the exact marked route and do not assume a festival guide or bus will be present.

The guided-hike page tells walkers to bring enough water and food because large groups cannot always stop for refreshments. Route icons can indicate restaurants, cafes, museums and transport, but an icon is not a promise that a venue will be open when the group arrives.

Check the forecast, daylight, ascent and finish transport together. A route that fits the distance can still be wrong when its final bus leaves little margin.

September 26 parade and return transport

The Stone Heart ceremony begins at 13:00 near the former border crossing. The parade is scheduled to leave at about 13:30 and continue roughly 3 km downhill to Oberwiesenthal.

Special transport toward the Boží Dar border is scheduled from 10:00 to 13:00. The parade transport page lists shuttles from Oberwiesenthal P1 about every 15 minutes, plus less frequent services from Annaberg Kätplatz and the Rittersgrün/Tellerhäuser loop. It also lists public departures from Loučná and Jáchymov.

Return shuttles from Oberwiesenthal P1 are planned from 19:00 to 22:00. The Jáchymov return requires arrangement with the organizers. Confirm the last leg before joining the parade, not after the closing program.

The organizer also suggests parking in Loučná, using the Dámská cable car and walking about 4 km down the red trail to Boží Dar. The cable car is stated to be free for festival participants on September 26. Weather and operation still need a same-day check.

Hiking safety and offline preparation

Carry broken-in shoes, a waterproof layer, water, food, the festival map, an offline route, a power bank, valid ID, cash and personal medication. Save the route number, pickup point, departure time and expected return together.

The single European emergency number is 112 on both sides of the border. The organizer also lists 155 for Czech emergency medical services, 158 for Czech police, 150 for Czech firefighters and +420 1210 for Czech mountain rescue.

On Czech trail signs and shelters, a rescue-point code can help responders locate an incident. Report that code and remain nearby unless staying creates immediate danger. Data helps, but it does not replace an offline map, sufficient battery or a clear route plan.

Useful apps for EURORANDO 2026

The organizer's practical advice specifically recommends:

• Mapy.com: route planning and field navigation. Download the relevant area before the walk. The welcome pack is expected to include a one-month Premium trial voucher.
• Záchranka / Emergency: the Czech emergency app can transmit location when the required permissions and connection are available. Save 112 as the fallback.
• IDOS: Czech public transport searches for regional legs around Karlovy Vary and Boží Dar.

For German connections, keep the current DB or VMS journey planner available. Save the full itinerary because a mountain bus may not wait for a late incoming train. A weather app with official warnings for both Czechia and Saxony is more useful than a generic city forecast.

Mobile data across the Czech-German route

A country plan is sufficient when the itinerary remains on one side of the border. It is less convenient for a week that repeatedly crosses between Boží Dar and Oberwiesenthal. In that case, choose a Europe Roaming eSIM whose current coverage explicitly includes both Czechia and Germany.

The current Roaming eSIM catalog showed 15 Czechia plans and 17 Germany plans on September 15. Country examples included 1 GB for seven days and larger fixed or daily allowances, with O2 and Vodafone listed on current records in both countries. EURORANDO returns only every five years, but the best week is not the one with the most reservations. It is the one where every booked route has a realistic start, enough food and water, and a dependable way back.
