Frankfurt Marathon 2026: start waves, bibs and travel

The Mainova Frankfurt Marathon takes place on Sunday, October 25, 2026, starting on Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage and finishing inside the Festhalle. Existing entrants should collect their bib on Friday or Saturday if possible: official sources disagree about Sunday's collection deadline, and the current runner PDF introduces five start waves.
This Frankfurt Marathon 2026 visitor guide is for runners and the people traveling with them. It separates race instructions from expo opening hours, explains who gets public transport with a bib, and gives supporters a plan that does not depend on a moving phone dot.
Can you still enter the Frankfurt Marathon?
The organizer has confirmed that the marathon is sold out. A registration button or an old late-entry price elsewhere on the website is not evidence that places are currently available.
Check the organizer directly for any legitimate change in availability. Do not book a trip around a stranger's promise to sell you a bib. The published transfer deadline was October 4 and has passed; buying someone's number does not establish that the organizer has accepted the transfer.
Supporters do not need a marathon entry to plan a visit, but race access, public transport and any separately registered weekend activity have different conditions.
Collect your race number before Sunday if you can
The race-number collection page lists Hall 1, Level 2 at Messe Frankfurt:
| Collection day | Published hours |
|---|---|
| Friday, October 23 | 12:00 to 19:00 |
| Saturday, October 24 | 10:00 to 19:00 |
| Sunday, October 25 | 07:00 to 09:30 on the web page |
Bring your race pass or registration confirmation and ID. Someone collecting for you needs the required authorization and identification documents; check the linked instructions before handing over the task.
Sunday has a source conflict. The 2026 runner PDF says collection continues until 10:00, rather than 09:30. Do not treat that as a safe extra half-hour. Aim before the earlier deadline and confirm your own instructions with the organizer.
The marathonmall visitor page lists free expo entry, with Sunday opening from 07:00 to 17:00. That 17:00 closing time is for the expo, not permission to collect a race number after the start.
Friday collection leaves Saturday free for a short walk, meals and whatever preparation you normally use. If Saturday is your arrival day, make collection the first fixed appointment rather than the last stop after sightseeing.
What are the five Frankfurt start waves?
The official 2026 runner PDF, page 7, gives this sequence:
| Time | Assigned group |
|---|---|
| 10:00 | Blocks 1 to 3: HOKA, Messe Frankfurt and Stadt Frankfurt |
| 10:13 | Block 4: Mainova |
| 10:21 | Relay marathon |
| 10:27 | Block 5: Rosbacher |
| 10:35 | Block 6: Powerbar |
The PDF opens the line-up at 09:15 and sets 10:45 as the latest start. Use the block on your number, not a preferred departure time.
Other official pages still give four waves, a 10:30 final start and 16:45 finish closure; the PDF says 17:00. Confirm the final instructions rather than assume the later deadline applies.
Give supporters your actual wave time. Calculating every expected sighting from 10:00 can send them to a viewing point before their runner has even started.
Getting from Frankfurt Airport to the race area
Messe Frankfurt's arrival guidance describes S8 and S9 services between Frankfurt Airport and Hauptbahnhof. From the main station, useful approaches include:
- U4 to Festhalle/Messe, one stop, for the City entrance area.
- S3, S4, S5 or S6 to Messe, which approaches the Torhaus side.
- Trams 16 or 17 toward the fairground, subject to the day's service arrangements.
- Walking from Hauptbahnhof, which Messe estimates at about ten minutes.
Those routes reach different sides of a large venue. Match the station to the race entrance on the current event map; a generic exhibition entrance is not necessarily the right race entrance.
Search your journey in RMVgo for the actual date and departure time. Check lift availability if a step-free route matters, and leave space for station navigation with luggage. An airport connection that works on an ordinary weekday is not a guaranteed race-morning itinerary.
For accommodation, compare the whole route rather than choosing solely by a hotel district name. A room near the start can reduce travel, while a main-station base can simplify the airport journey. Check your address, walking approach and cancellation terms before booking. This guide does not endorse individual hotels.
Does your bib include RMV public transport?
The organizer's participant information says the bib covers RMV buses and trains on race Sunday through the end of service. A registration confirmation can cover the outward journey to collect the bib on Sunday. First class requires a supplement.
That does not make Friday or Saturday travel free, include a companion, or turn the bib into an ICE ticket. Buy a separate fare when your journey falls outside the stated conditions. Supporters should check their own ticket needs, even when traveling beside a runner.
Keep the fare question separate from the route question: a valid ticket does not mean a disrupted service is running.
Bags, the Festhalle finish and meeting your runner
The organizer lists bag drop in Hall 1, Level 1 from 08:00, using the official starter bag and number sticker. Other bags use paid storage, listed at EUR 4 per bag. Collect belongings by 17:00.
Spectators can enter the Festhalle stands free, subject to capacity. The runner finish and catering route is separate, and runners cannot simply return to the catering area after leaving it. Use the designated meeting areas in Hall 1, Level 2 or P1 rather than promising to meet at the finish line itself.
Agree on a precise meeting point before separating. Save a photo of the sign or map pin on both phones, and set a backup time. A tired runner may take longer than expected to collect a bag and get through the finish area.
For course viewing, choose one or two stops from the current official route map, then check the walk and transit between them. Do not cross barriers to chase a second sighting. If traveling with children or someone who needs seating, prioritize a manageable visit over the maximum number of course points.
Saturday's pretzel run is a separate registration
The current German Brezellauf page gives Saturday, October 24 at 10:00, starting on the Messe forecourt by the Maritim Hotel. Participation costs EUR 5.
Collect the required wristband on Friday from 12:00 to 19:00 at Hall 1, Level 2, or Saturday from 09:00 to 09:55 on the forecourt. On-site purchases depend on remaining places. A wristband is needed for the pretzel and medal, which are available while stocks last.
Do not rely on the English page's older 2025 date or its description of a free run. Check the current registration terms before adding this to the weekend, particularly if you are bringing children.
Apps and offline preparation for Frankfurt race weekend
The organizer's FAQ directs visitors to the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon app presented by T. Rowe Price. Use the official store links there for race information and tracking, rather than downloading an unrelated tracker from a search advertisement.
RMVgo handles journey planning, live service information and local tickets. RMV says stored tickets can be displayed without reception; if purchased while logged in, stay logged in, and carry the required photo ID. Current payment-registration limitations can affect a new account, so test your purchase before relying on it at the station.
Before leaving the hotel:
- Save the runner guide, course map and collection documents locally.
- Put the agreed meeting location and accommodation address on both phones.
- Check Germany's October 25 clock change. The official programme notes the overnight move back by one hour; use Frankfurt local time for alarms and appointments.
- Charge your phone and reduce unnecessary battery use while spectating.
- Keep a meeting plan that still works if tracking updates arrive late.
An app's location estimate is not a promise of when a runner will pass. Mobile data also cannot correct a watch's GPS distance or guarantee reception in a crowd. Follow the race's marked course and instructions rather than changing your race plan to match an uncertain phone reading.
Mobile data for the airport, transit and family messages
For an international visitor whose home plan does not include suitable Germany roaming, OpenSim provides a defined allowance for the wider trip rather than requiring a return to the hotel to check a changed train or send a meeting message. On October 16, the public Germany plan page listed 5 GB for 30 days at USD 4.76, with top-up available for that plan. Recheck the current price and selected plan before purchase.
If your home allowance already covers the visit, using it may be simpler. OpenSim does not provide race admission, an RMV fare, more accurate race tracking or priority network access.
Use the travel data calculator for the whole stay, check phone compatibility, and review installation timing before buying. Families extending their trip can use the separate Germany with kids guide; this race article does not replace a country itinerary.
Sources and updates before October 25
OpenSim editorial team checked the linked organizer, Messe Frankfurt and RMV sources on October 16, 2026. The collection, wave and finish-time discrepancies above remain unresolved between official pages; check your final participant instructions and contact the organizer when they affect your plans.
This page should be updated for a corrected runner guide, confirmed collection deadline, material transport change or event cancellation. It is a 2026 race guide, not live timing, medical advice or a 2027 registration guide.
