The route opens with four round trips each week. Although GOL sells the tickets and uses G3 flight numbers, Wamos Air supplies the opening aircraft, cockpit and cabin crews, maintenance and insurance under an ACMI agreement. That operating-carrier detail matters at check-in, for seat maps and when a traveler needs help at the airport.

The practical answer: search the exact date on GOL, confirm GIG and LIS on both directions, and read the operating-carrier line before choosing a seat or planning check-in. The route is operating, but times vary by day and season.

What is confirmed about the Rio to Lisbon route

GOL's ticket-sales announcement set out four weekly nonstop round trips. Current launch coverage confirms that the first Lisbon departure reached Rio on September 17 and that the first Rio departure is planned for September 18.

GOL's March timetable showed departures on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with small time differences by day and another seasonal change from October 25. A later fifth Tuesday frequency has also been announced for November 24. These details make a static weekly timetable less useful than the current GOL Rio to Lisbon booking page.

Search each direction and save the issued itinerary. A winter time change, additional frequency or aircraft substitution can alter the local time without ending the route.

Why the itinerary may say operated by Wamos Air

GOL announced an ACMI agreement with Wamos Air before its long-haul launch. ACMI means the partner provides the aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance. Current reporting from Lisbon identifies the opening aircraft as Wamos Air A330-200 EC-MAJ.

This does not turn the ticket into a separate Wamos booking. It does mean that the actual aircraft, crew and some airport instructions can differ from what a passenger expects from a GOL-operated Boeing flight.

Before paying, open the flight details and check:

• the marketing and operating carrier;
• the seat map for that departure;
• the baggage included with the selected fare;
• where the itinerary says to check in;
• whether every connecting flight is on one ticket.

Do not choose a seat from an unofficial A330 diagram. The aircraft assigned to a future date can change, and the final seat map in the booking is the useful one.

Departing from Rio de Janeiro Galeao

RIOgaleao currently lists GOL international check-in in Terminal 2, level 2, at islands D and E. A gate is not fixed in advance, so use the boarding pass and airport screens on the day.

GOL's general check-in guidance says international online check-in normally opens 48 hours before departure and closes one hour before. It tells international passengers using airport check-in to arrive three hours before departure, with the counter closing one hour before the flight.

The Lisbon service is partner-operated, so treat those times as general GOL guidance rather than a promise that every online function will work. Follow the instruction attached to the reservation. If the app will not issue a boarding pass, go to the named airport desk with enough time for the document and baggage checks.

GIG and Santos Dumont are different airports. A domestic flight into SDU does not create an airport connection to the Lisbon flight at GIG. Build in a road transfer and disruption margin if the tickets use different Rio airports.

Departing from Lisbon Airport

Lisbon Airport advises passengers to check the airline's instructions, complete online check-in when available and arrive with enough time for baggage drop, security and border formalities. The airport also notes that a boarding pass may still require a document check at the counter.

Look for G3 7021 and the operating-carrier information on the airport display. Do not assume that a previous GOL desk, a Wamos charter desk or another airline's A330 location will be used for this flight.

If Lisbon is a self-transfer, the risk is different from a protected connection. Separate tickets can require baggage collection, a new check-in and another security process. Leave a margin that can absorb a late inbound flight, queues and the onward airline's closing time. A cheap separate ticket is not protected merely because both flights use the same terminal.

Rio is GOL's international hub, so the Lisbon flight can be sold with domestic connections. One reservation gives the airlines a clearer duty to handle a missed protected connection than two unrelated tickets, but it does not answer every baggage question.

At the first check-in desk, ask where the bag must be collected and read the printed tag. On a journey into Brazil, immigration and customs requirements can still require the passenger to collect and present baggage at the first Brazilian entry point, even when another flight follows. On an outbound journey, a bag may be tagged through on an eligible single ticket, but the tag is the evidence that matters.

For separate tickets, assume responsibility for collecting the bag, reaching the next desk before it closes and paying any new baggage charge unless the airlines confirm otherwise in writing. Avoid a tight self-transfer around a long-haul flight.
