IBC 2026 Amsterdam guide: passes, transport and app

IBC 2026 runs from Friday, September 11 through Monday, September 14 at RAI Amsterdam. It suits broadcast, streaming, production and media-technology professionals who want to compare equipment, attend show-floor sessions or meet suppliers. The main difficulty is scale: more than 1,250 exhibitors are spread across 14 halls, and a basic visitor pass does not include the three-day paid conference.

The short answer: register before arriving, collect the badge on Thursday if your travel plan allows it, and build each day around one or two neighboring halls. The badge includes GVB tram, bus and metro travel during the show, but it does not pay for the NS train from Schiphol Airport. Download the IBC app, then save the badge confirmation, appointments, floor plan and return route offline.

Register before traveling to Amsterdam

The free advance-registration window has ended. The current pass page lists a Visitor Pass at EUR 195 and says the price increases on September 11. A sponsor or exhibitor code may reduce the price, but a code published by a third-party blog is not a promise that every traveler qualifies or that the code remains active.

Complete registration before the flight or train journey. Check the name, employer, pass type and email address on the confirmation. Offsite Fasttrack collection is limited to printable badge types with a complete registration and no outstanding balance. A payment or verification problem discovered at a hotel pickup point may send the visitor back to an event help desk.

The visitor pass covers the exhibition, outdoor exhibits, free show-floor theatres, the Owner and Partner Programme and Future Tech in Hall 14. The IBC Conference, Technical Papers access and delegate lounge benefits require the corresponding paid pass. Do not build a schedule around a conference session until the account shows the correct access.

Choose the right pass before choosing sessions

Most first-time visitors need one of three paths:

A Visitor Pass is enough for many show-floor talks. It is not a cheaper route into every conference session. The reverse mistake also wastes money: someone who needs only supplier meetings and free stages may not need a full delegate package.

Open the live agenda and mark each chosen session by access level. Then add the hall or conference-room location. A schedule that contains six interesting talks but ignores the walk between them is not a usable schedule.

Collect the badge before Friday morning when possible

IBC lists seven offsite collection locations for Thursday, September 10: the I amsterdam Store at Amsterdam Centraal, Die Port van Cleve, DoubleTree by Hilton, Amsterdam Marriott, Apollo Hotel Amsterdam, Mercure Amsterdam City and Leonardo Royal Hotel. The published Thursday window is 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with different store hours possible at Amsterdam Centraal.

Friday offsite collection runs in the morning. The exact location hours differ, so use the IBC readiness page rather than assuming every desk opens at the same time.

Delegate collection at RAI Entrance G opens from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday. It continues during the show, with the Friday desk opening at 10:30 a.m. Collecting on Thursday removes one queue from the first morning and activates the physical badge needed for the included GVB QR code.

Do not leave the badge unattended or lend it to another person. The terms allow IBC to refuse admission, and exhibitors can receive registration data when a visitor voluntarily allows a badge scan.

Schiphol to RAI: the badge does not cover the train

IBC no longer runs a complimentary airport shuttle. The direct airport option is an NS train from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam RAI station. Buy that journey separately through NS or at the airport. The IBC badge's GVB benefit covers city trams, buses and metro, not the NS airport train.

That boundary matters on the return too. Scanning the event badge at a GVB metro gate does not create a valid NS ticket for the train to Schiphol. Check the rail departure in the NS journey planner, buy the correct ticket and allow time to reach the airport terminal from the platform.

Travelers staying in central Amsterdam can use an airport train to Amsterdam Zuid or Centraal and continue on the local network, but the precise route depends on engineering work and the hotel. Someone arriving on September 9 should also review the site's Netherlands public transport strike update before relying on an early-arrival itinerary.

Reaching RAI from central Amsterdam

From Amsterdam Centraal, Metro 52 reaches Europaplein without a change. Tram 4 also stops at Europaplein. From Amsterdam Zuid or Amstel, IBC lists Metro 51 and buses 62 or 65; Metro 50 stops at Amsterdam RAI station.

Check the route in GVB on the day. The included pass is useful only on services it covers, and a printed event itinerary cannot account for a same-day diversion.

Driving is possible, and RAI sells parking. It is usually a poor default for someone staying near a metro line because the event fills 14 halls and arrival peaks are predictable. If driving is necessary, reserve through the RAI route linked by IBC and verify the entrance. Do not use a social post about P+R as proof of the current discount process.

Cycling is practical for experienced Amsterdam riders, but conference luggage and unfamiliar junctions change the calculation. Rent from a legitimate provider, use marked routes and confirm where the venue permits bicycle parking.

Plan the 14 halls by neighborhood, not by wish list

The IBC app can search exhibitors, build an agenda and route between saved points on the interactive floor plan. Use that routing before the show. The RAI is too large for an alphabetical booth list to work as a walking plan.

Build each day in four steps:

1. Choose one meeting or session that cannot move.
2. Add exhibitors in the same hall and neighboring halls.
3. Keep one open block for a delayed demo, a queue or a useful conversation.
4. Put distant halls on another day unless the appointment is fixed.

Future Tech occupies Hall 14. The main conference is in the Auditorium Complex, with Conference Rooms 1 and 2 and a delegate lounge. These are destinations, not generic labels. Put them on the floor plan before accepting back-to-back meetings.

Friday starts one hour later than the weekend. Monday closes two hours earlier. A visitor arriving at 3 p.m. Monday does not have a normal full show day, even if a four-day pass remains valid.

A workable first-time schedule

Thursday, September 10

Collect the badge, confirm the GVB QR code and test the app login. Save Friday's two most important appointments and the route from the hotel to RAI. Do not turn Thursday evening into a late cross-city schedule if Friday morning carries the trip's main meeting.

Friday, September 11

Use the 10:30 a.m. start for the highest-priority supplier or show-floor session. Stay in one hall group until lunch. Reserve the afternoon for demos that need conversation rather than a quick pass through a booth.

Saturday or Sunday

Use one day for broader discovery and the other for scheduled meetings. The current industry preview points to AI, live sport, creator tools and the expanded Future Tech area as major 2026 themes. Pick the themes that match the job instead of trying to collect every launch.

Monday, September 14

Finish follow-ups, revisit one or two shortlisted exhibitors and leave enough time for baggage and the airport transfer. The show closes at 4 p.m. A flight timed as though the halls close at 6 p.m. creates an avoidable conflict.

Download the IBC app, then prepare for it to be offline

The official app is useful for the live agenda, exhibitor search, meeting planning, notifications and indoor navigation. Sign in before arrival and confirm that saved sessions appear on the device.

Then make a smaller offline pack:

• registration confirmation and badge-collection address
• screenshots of fixed appointments with hall and stand numbers
• the floor-plan area around those stands
• hotel address and return route
• NS airport ticket or booking reference
• contact details for the team and one fixed meeting point

The app should reduce walking, not become the only place where the day exists. A flat battery, failed login or crowded network should not erase the next meeting.

Wi-Fi, mobile data and critical work

IBC's terms say it provides dedicated attendee and exhibitor Wi-Fi, but availability depends on the access supplied at the event. The terms tell exhibitors to order a wired connection for critical systems and prohibit unofficial Wi-Fi networks that interfere with the venue network.

For a visitor, that means venue Wi-Fi is useful but should not be the only connection behind a boarding pass, map, meeting change or ride booking. A personal mobile-data plan provides a separate route online around Amsterdam and on the journey to RAI. It cannot guarantee capacity deep inside a busy hall.

Avoid large cloud backups during the show. Save video uploads for a reliable connection, disable automatic photo syncing if the allowance is limited, and use the travel data calculator before choosing a plan.

Bags, cloakroom and photography

The public terms do not publish one universal numerical bag limit. IBC can inspect, refuse or remove bags, cases, parcels and coats. Unattended items can also be removed. Bring a compact work bag and leave unnecessary production equipment at the hotel.

RAI operates the cloakroom, and items are left at the visitor's risk. Do not arrive with flight luggage unless the venue has confirmed it will accept the exact item. A cloakroom is not guaranteed airline-baggage storage.

Personal photography is allowed. Commercial filming, recording or transmission of a seminar, exhibit or attendee needs prior written permission. Ask before recording a booth demonstration or another person. Event access does not override an exhibitor's product restrictions or an attendee's privacy.

Food, water, charging and quiet needs

RAI has restaurants, cafes and snack bars across the complex. Main entrances have water-refill and phone-charging points, while Entrance C and Entrance K have ATMs. The venue also lists a prayer room with washroom facilities in the Elicium passage near Hall 13.

Mark a lunch area near the day's hall cluster. Walking across the site only to find food adds another long transfer to a schedule that already has too many. Carry a reusable bottle if current security guidance permits it, and keep a cable or battery pack for the phone handling the app and transport.

Accessibility and attending with a minor

IBC asks visitors who need assistance to contact support before the event. Describe the practical requirement, such as step-free access, a mobility device, seating or help at registration. Keep the reply with the badge confirmation rather than waiting to explain the need at a crowded entrance.

Minors may attend only under the terms that apply to the accompanying registered adult. The adult must remain with the minor, and minors cannot enter during build-up or dismantling. IBC is a professional trade event with long walking distances and business-focused content, so check whether the planned halls and session times are suitable before bringing a child.

After-hours events need their own route home

Industry events run around the RAI and central Amsterdam throughout the week. Some require separate registration even when the listing says admission is free. A show badge does not automatically reserve a place at an exhibitor reception or offsite party.

Confirm the venue, entry confirmation and last practical return before leaving RAI. Europaplein, Rembrandtplein and Rokin are different trips. Save the address rather than relying on an event name that may appear at several locations or in an old listing.

Where Roaming eSIM fits into an IBC trip

The public Roaming eSIM catalog returned 16 Netherlands package records on September 4. The catalog included fixed allowances and daily options. Package terms differ, including top-up support, so read the selected plan rather than assuming every Netherlands package behaves the same way.

For a compatible unlocked phone, a Roaming eSIM can provide mobile data for the IBC app, GVB and NS checks, maps, email and meeting changes while the usual SIM remains installed on devices that support dual SIM. It cannot improve the event Wi-Fi, guarantee indoor signal or replace offline copies.

Start with the Netherlands Roaming eSIM for an Amsterdam-only visit. A Europe plan may fit a trip that continues by train or air to another country. Wider coverage is not automatically a better buy when the whole itinerary stays in the Netherlands.
