IFA Berlin 2026 guide: tickets, app and transport

IFA Berlin 2026 runs from Friday, September 4 to Tuesday, September 8 at Messe Berlin. The public can attend, but Friday is only a half day for ordinary private visitors. Trade visitors enter earlier, and a private ticket does not include the trade-only IFA Global Markets area or Berlin public transport.

The first planning decision is the ticket type. The second is the part of the show you actually want to see. Messe Berlin covers many halls and entrances, so a one-day visitor who arrives without a route can spend too much time crossing the site. Download the official IFA app, choose two show areas and one stage session, then enter near the first hall on that route.

This guide was checked on August 15, 2026. The programme, exhibitors, transport works and entry rules can still change before opening day. Recheck the official programme, venue map, visitor page and BVG journey planner during the week of the event.

The short answer: private visitors get a full day from September 5 to 8, while Friday public entry starts at 12:00. Buy through IFA, do not assume admission includes local transport, and route from BER Airport with live VBB information because major regional-rail work continues through December. Use the IFA app for the hall map and agenda, but keep the ticket, first entrance and return route available offline.

Choose the right ticket before choosing a day

IFA sells separate private and trade visitor products. A private visitor ticket covers the public exhibition halls, show areas and experience zones for the selected day. It does not include IFA Global Markets in Hall 26, which runs from September 5 to 7 for trade visitors.

A trade visitor ticket makes sense when the trip is for buying, distribution, sourcing, media or scheduled industry meetings. It includes earlier hall access and business features in the app. A visitor who mainly wants demonstrations, public stages, gaming, appliances, smart-home products or the Sommergarten should not pay for a trade ticket without needing those benefits.

Buy through the official private visitor page or trade visitor page. The private ticket can be shown digitally or printed. Keep a screenshot or PDF available in case the email, wallet or venue Wi-Fi is slow at the entrance.

Check the child ticket in the checkout

IFA's current pages do not describe child admission in exactly the same way. The May ticket release says children up to and including age 15 enter free and also lists a family ticket for two adults with up to three children. The current FAQ says up to three children under 16 may enter free when accompanied by a responsible adult.

Those statements agree on the age boundary but leave the adult-ticket combination unclear. Do not infer which family product is cheaper from a search snippet. Enter the real group in the official ticket shop and check the final ticket names and total before paying. Visitors under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian unless the registration route states an exception.

Friday is not a full public day

Friday, September 4 is reserved for trade visitors until noon. Private visitor entry runs from 12:00 to 18:00, giving the public six hours. Saturday through Tuesday offers the full 10:00 to 18:00 public day.

Families, school groups and visitors with disabilities may enter from 10:00 on every event day, including Friday. That exception should be visible on the ticket or registration confirmation before relying on it at the gate.

There is no single best day for everybody:

• Choose Friday if a six-hour public visit is enough and the day's stage or Sommergarten programme is the reason for going.
• Choose Saturday or Sunday if work or school rules out a weekday. IFA does not publish a crowd forecast, so do not assume either weekend day will be quiet.
• Choose Monday or Tuesday for a full public day without relying on a weekend schedule.
• Choose more than one day only if the plan covers several distant show areas, multiple fixed sessions or trade meetings.

The live programme should decide the date. An old preview cannot tell you whether a session has moved, filled up or changed stage.

Build a one-day route instead of a wish list

IFA's show areas cover home appliances, smart home, computing and gaming, communication and connectivity, audio, mobility, digital health, beauty tech, content creation and emerging companies at IFA Next. Seeing all of them properly in one day is not realistic.

Use this three-part plan:

1. Pick two show areas that share the same side of the grounds or a sensible path across them.
2. Add one fixed stage session, demonstration or meeting.
3. Leave a flexible block for an unexpected launch, queue, meal or longer conversation.

Open the 2026 venue map beside the programme. Save the exhibitors and sessions in the IFA app before arriving. The app calculates walking routes and times inside the site, which is more useful than a list ordered by brand popularity.

A private visitor should also check whether a desired brand is running a public demonstration. An exhibitor appearing in the directory does not promise that every booth activity is open without an appointment. A 2025 attendee report described some business-focused stands as appointment-led; that is useful preparation, not a 2026 access rule.

Use the entrance nearest your first hall

Messe Berlin has several public access points. IFA currently lists:

Do not navigate only to Messe Berlin and accept whichever pin appears first. Start with the first saved hall, match it to the official map, then choose the station and entrance. This can remove a long walk before the visit has started.

The official transport list includes S41, S42 and S46 at Messe Nord/ICC, S3 and S9 for Messe Süd or Westkreuz, U2 at Kaiserdamm or Theodor-Heuss-Platz, and several buses. Live service matters more than the complete list because construction and short-notice changes can affect the route.

BER Airport to IFA during the 2026 rail works

BER Airport sits in Berlin fare zone C, while Messe Berlin is in zone A. A journey between them normally needs an ABC ticket. The IFA admission ticket does not include that fare.

Berlin's regional-rail pattern is unusual in 2026. The airport warns that regional and long-distance trains cannot use the Stadtbahn between Charlottenburg and Ostbahnhof from June 14 to December 12. FEX and RE20 still provide four airport services per hour together, but diversions and partial changes remain possible. Search the complete BER-to-entrance journey on the day rather than copying a route from an older guide.

Two route patterns may appear:

• S9 from BER toward the western exhibition area, with Messe Süd or Westkreuz as the useful IFA stop.
• FEX or another regional service from BER toward Südkreuz or another interchange, followed by the Ringbahn or a local connection toward Messe Nord/ICC.

The best choice depends on the entrance and live works. A direct train can still be slower if it leaves the visitor at the wrong end of the grounds. Use BER Airport's current transport notice and the VBB or BVG planner, then save the result offline.

Paper tickets from a machine may need validation before travel. App tickets follow the activation rules shown during purchase. IFA's ticket does not activate either one.

The IFA app is useful, but it needs preparation

The official IFA App 2026 launched on July 30 for iOS and Android, with a web version also planned. It includes the exhibitor directory, programme, personal agenda, live updates and indoor navigation. Its blue-dot map can route to halls, stages, stands and programme items and estimate walking time.

Download it before the flight or train. A trade, exhibitor, media, press, creator or investor ticket uses the trade and media login and can unlock networking features. A private visitor should choose the private visitor login. Registered users claim the account with the email address and badge ID attached to the ticket.

The app does not replace the admission ticket, a Berlin transport ticket or a reliable fallback. Save these separately:

• The IFA ticket or badge.
• The first entrance and hall number.
• The venue map.
• The outward and return transport route.
• Any meeting confirmation that matters.

Push alerts and live maps depend on a working connection. Free venue Wi-Fi is listed, but a large technology show is the wrong place to assume every login will work instantly.

Bags, payments, Wi-Fi and charging

IFA's current visitor and FAQ pages list cloakrooms, charging stations, free Wi-Fi, food and drink, and accessibility support. Cash payments are not accepted. Bring a working credit or debit card and a second payment method if possible.

The official pages reviewed on August 15 did not publish one universal 2026 maximum bag size, food rule, water-bottle rule or re-entry policy for every visitor. That missing information matters. It is not evidence that every bag or item is accepted.

Use a compact day bag, leave luggage at the hotel or an appropriate station facility, and check the ticket terms again before travel. If camera equipment, product samples, medical items or trade materials are essential, ask IFA for the rule that applies to that item. Do not rely on a 2025 article for a 2026 security decision.

The cloakroom can reduce what has to be carried between halls, but the current general visitor page does not promise that every item will be accepted or that space cannot fill. Keep passports, medication, payment cards and the return ticket with you.

Accessibility and family planning

IFA describes Messe Berlin as step free, with lifts, accessible toilets and dedicated parking. Qualifying disability identification may allow a companion ticket. The exact designation requirement is listed in the official FAQ, so an international visitor should check whether their document is recognized before buying.

Use the entrance nearest the first hall and ask about the route between specific stages, not only whether the venue is accessible in general. A large exhibition day still involves distance, queues, noise and standing. Build in a seated break and keep the route short.

Families can use the 10:00 entry on every day, including Friday. Interactive demonstrations, gaming and robotics may work well for older children, but the event is still a busy trade-fair environment. Choose a meeting point that can be named precisely, such as an entrance and hall number. Under the Funkturm is too broad.

Set up the IFA and Berlin tools before arrival

• IFA App 2026: halls, exhibitors, agenda, live updates and indoor directions.
• BVG journey planner: Berlin public transport routes and tickets.
• BER Airport transport page: airport lines, zone information and current links.
• DB Navigator: useful when the trip includes German regional or long-distance rail beyond Berlin.
• NINA: Germany's official civil-protection warning app.
• The airline and hotel apps used for the trip: keep boarding, delay and reservation messages in their original source.

Download an offline city map as a fallback. An offline map can identify streets and stations, but it cannot show a cancelled train or a changed entrance.

Where Roaming eSIM fits into an IFA trip

IFA provides free Wi-Fi at the venue. That does not cover the trip from BER Airport, the hotel, a side event or the return journey. A Germany Roaming eSIM can provide mobile data for VBB routes, IFA app updates, meeting messages and maps while the usual SIM remains installed on a compatible unlocked phone.

Prices, inventory and package fields can change. The selected product card remains the source for allowance, validity, activation, hotspot, speed and top-up terms.

Roaming eSIM's practical advantage: the traveler can compare Germany, Europe and wider plans before landing, see current allowance, validity, retail price, operator labels and top-up status, and use the published 24/7 support route if setup needs attention. IFA's app and free Wi-Fi do not provide mobile data between the airport, hotel and venue. Roaming eSIM still cannot include admission or transport, create capacity inside a crowded hall, guarantee reception at a stand or provide a German phone number unless the selected package explicitly says so.

Start with a Germany Roaming eSIM when the trip stays in Germany. Compare a regional plan only when the same itinerary continues into another covered country.
