Japan Airlines has started using the Airbus A350-1000 on JL41 and JL42 between Tokyo Haneda and London Heathrow. The first JL41 in the new assignment left Haneda on October 1 and arrived at Heathrow the same morning, according to live flight tracking checked after arrival.

The change gives JAL two daily A350-1000 flights in each direction for a limited period. JL43 and JL44 already use the aircraft. JL41 and JL42 are scheduled to join them from October 1, 2026, through March 27, 2027.

The practical answer: Choose the flight number as well as the departure time. JL41 and JL42 are scheduled with JAL's A350-1000 only through March 27, 2027, while JL43 and JL44 use it daily without that stated winter-only qualifier. Aircraft can still be substituted, so check the booking and seat map before paying for a cabin or seat feature.

This guide was checked on October 1, 2026, after the first JL41 in the new assignment reached London.

Which JAL London flights now use the A350-1000?

JAL's current A350-1000 aircraft schedule lists all four of its Haneda-London flight numbers with the A350-1000:

DirectionFlightPublished A350-1000 plan
Haneda to LondonJL41Daily from October 1, 2026, through March 27, 2027
London to HanedaJL42Daily from October 1, 2026, through March 27, 2027
Haneda to LondonJL43Daily
London to HanedaJL44Daily

JAL describes this as twice-daily A350-1000 service for the limited JL41 and JL42 window. The airline also warns that schedules, aircraft and frequencies can change because of fleet planning or the day's operation. A route announcement is therefore useful for choosing a flight, but the reservation is the final check for a particular date.

JL41 is the early-arrival option from Tokyo

JL41 is the overnight departure from Haneda and reaches London in the morning. For departures through October 24, the published schedule is 00:15 from Haneda and 06:25 at Heathrow. The first A350-assigned flight left at 01:03 and arrived at 07:02 on October 1, according to the flight tracker checked for this guide.

Do not copy those clock times onto a later winter trip. The United Kingdom's clock change and JAL's seasonal timetable affect the schedule from October 25. Search the exact date and read both the local departure time and the local arrival date.

JL43 leaves Tokyo later and arrives in London later in the day. That may suit a traveler who values an easier departure time. JL41 may suit someone who wants a full first day in London or a wider choice of onward flights, provided there is enough time for immigration, baggage and a terminal change.

The aircraft has four cabins and 239 seats

JAL's A350-1000 seat map shows 239 seats: six in First Class, 54 in Business Class, 24 in Premium Economy and 155 in Economy. The cabin is not simply a newer version of the aircraft JL41 previously used. Seat maps, row numbers and paid seat choices may change when the aircraft changes.

If the A350 is the reason for booking, look for aircraft type A350-1000 or code 351 in the reservation. Recheck after any schedule notice. A substitution can change the seat even when the flight number remains the same.

Economy uses a 3-3-3 layout. JAL lists approximately 84 to 86 cm of pitch and about 46 cm of seat width for this configuration. Comfort still depends on the chosen row, neighboring seats and the individual traveler, so treat those measurements as planning facts rather than a promise that one seat will feel best.

Night-flight service on JL41 works differently

JAL markets a sleep-focused service on JL41. Its Haneda-London route page says the main meal is served about eight hours after takeoff rather than immediately after the midnight departure. Available snacks and order-anytime choices differ by cabin.

That timing can be helpful for sleep, but it may surprise someone expecting a full meal soon after boarding. Eat before the flight if needed, keep medication timing in mind and check the menu for the travel date. Meal availability and service order can change.

Wi-Fi is useful but not unlimited in every cabin

JAL's current international Wi-Fi guide gives Premium Economy and Economy passengers one hour of free access. Business and First Class passengers receive unlimited use. The airline notes that service can be interrupted and that access restrictions apply, so it should not be treated as a guaranteed connection for work, calls or a time-sensitive transfer.

Download boarding passes, hotel details, rail tickets and essential messages before departure. OpenSim mobile data starts only after the phone reaches a supported ground network. It does not provide inflight Wi-Fi.

Check baggage against the ticket, not the aircraft

JAL's standard international carry-on rule allows one personal item and one cabin bag with a combined weight of no more than 10 kg. The main bag can measure up to 55 by 40 by 25 cm, with total dimensions no greater than 115 cm.

The standard checked allowance is two pieces of up to 23 kg each in Economy and Premium Economy, and three pieces of up to 32 kg each in Business and First. Each checked piece can have total dimensions up to 203 cm.

The issued ticket remains the authority. A codeshare, another operating airline, status benefit, special item or connecting domestic sector can change how the allowance is applied. Confirm the operating carrier and the baggage line on the booking before arriving at the airport.

Plan Haneda and Heathrow connections as separate decisions

Haneda's international flights use Terminal 3. The airport's international-to-domestic transfer guide says passengers must clear immigration and customs, collect baggage and move to the domestic terminal process. That is different from an airside international-to-international connection.

A through-ticket gives the airlines a defined itinerary to protect. A self-transfer on separate tickets may require entry permission, baggage collection, another check-in and a new security screening, while the onward airline may treat a missed flight as a no-show. Do not copy another traveler's successful connection time without matching the terminals, ticket type and baggage steps.

At Heathrow, JAL uses Terminal 3. An onward flight from another terminal adds immigration, baggage or security steps depending on the itinerary. Use Heathrow's current connection instructions and the operating airline's minimum connection time. An early JL41 arrival creates options, but it does not make a tight self-transfer safe.

Mobile data for Tokyo, London and onward Europe

An OpenSim Japan eSIM is the direct country option for a stay in Tokyo or travel elsewhere in Japan. An OpenSim United Kingdom eSIM can cover the London end of the trip. If the journey continues through several included European destinations, compare an OpenSim Europe eSIM and check its live country list before purchase.

OpenSim's live catalog was checked on October 1. Read the selected product card for its allowance, validity, speed conditions, hotspot support and top-up eligibility. Not every plan is reloadable, and some daily plans continue at reduced speed after the high-speed allowance is used.

Mobile data can help with flight alerts, maps, messaging and ground transport after landing. It cannot change a booking, protect a separate ticket or replace JAL's inflight Wi-Fi.

Ten questions about JAL A350 London flights

Has JL41 started using the A350-1000?

Yes. JAL scheduled the change for October 1, and that day's JL41 operated from Haneda to Heathrow. Check the aircraft shown for later dates because substitutions remain possible.

Does JL42 also use the A350-1000?

Yes. JAL lists the London-to-Haneda JL42 with the A350-1000 daily from October 1, 2026, through March 27, 2027.

Are both daily JAL London flights now A350s?

During the published JL41 and JL42 window, yes. JL43 and JL44 are also listed as daily A350-1000 services, giving JAL two daily flights in each direction with the aircraft.

Will JL41 still be an A350 after March 27, 2027?

JAL has not promised that in the current schedule. The announced JL41 and JL42 assignment ends on March 27, so a later booking needs a fresh aircraft check.

What time does JL41 leave Haneda?

The schedule through October 24 shows 00:15, but winter timings change. Search the exact date and remember that a just-after-midnight departure requires reaching the airport on the previous evening.

Which JAL London flight is better for a connection?

JL41's morning arrival can offer more same-day choices, while JL43's later departure may be easier in Tokyo. The safer option depends on whether the onward flight is protected, the terminal, baggage and the available connection time.

How many seats are on JAL's A350-1000?

JAL's published configuration has 239 seats across First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy. Confirm the seat map because an aircraft change can produce a different cabin layout.

Is Wi-Fi free on the JAL A350-1000?

JAL currently includes one free hour in Economy and Premium Economy and unlimited use in Business and First. Availability and performance are not guaranteed throughout the flight.

Will my checked bag transfer at Haneda?

It depends on the itinerary. International arrivals connecting to a Japanese domestic flight must collect bags after immigration and clear customs. For any other connection, check the bag tag and ask the origin agent where collection is required.

Is a codeshare booking guaranteed to use JAL's A350?

No. The operating carrier and flight number matter. A partner flight number sold on JL41, JL42, JL43 or JL44 may use the JAL-operated aircraft, but another operating flight can have different cabins, baggage and service.

Before choosing a flight

  • Match the booking to JL41, JL42, JL43 or JL44.
  • Check the aircraft type and seat map for the exact date.
  • Treat March 27, 2027, as the current end of the JL41 and JL42 assignment.
  • Read departure times in local time and note a just-after-midnight departure.
  • Decide whether the JL41 meal timing suits your sleep and medication needs.
  • Confirm the baggage allowance on the issued ticket.
  • Identify the operating carrier on a codeshare.
  • Keep connecting sectors on one ticket when practical.
  • Allow for immigration, customs, baggage and terminal transfers.
  • Save essential travel information offline before the flight.

How we verified this JAL aircraft change

JAL's June announcement and current A350 schedule support the October 1 to March 27 assignment, daily frequency and twice-daily London plan. JAL's route, aircraft, baggage and Wi-Fi pages support the cabin, night-flight service and allowance details. Haneda Airport supports the transfer sequence. Live flight tracking was used only to corroborate the first JL41 operation and its recorded times.

Public traveler discussions were used to identify recurring questions about whether JL41 really had changed aircraft, A350 seat choices, baggage, Wi-Fi, codeshares and Haneda connection time. They were not used as authority for schedules, airline policy or transfer rules.

We will update this guide if JAL changes the assignment window, frequency, aircraft, schedule, cabin, baggage, Wi-Fi or connection guidance. Travelers should still rely on the current reservation and operating airline for their flight.
