Jeju Air will resume two daily routes from Seoul Incheon to regional Japan this winter. Incheon-Kagoshima service is scheduled to return on October 25, 2026, followed by Incheon-Hakodate on December 1.

The choice is not simply between two airports. Kagoshima suits a southern Kyushu trip built around the city, Sakurajima and onward rail or road travel. Hakodate is the direct option for southern Hokkaido, winter scenery and trips around the city, Yunokawa Onsen or Onuma. Check the exact return date before paying because winter schedules can end or change on different days.

Unbranded passenger jet with illustrated routes from Seoul toward Kagoshima and snowy Hakodate

*Original AI-generated OpenSim editorial illustration. The unbranded aircraft and blended landscape do not show an actual Jeju Air flight or a real view along either route.*

The practical answer: Both routes are announced as daily. Kagoshima starts first, on October 25, while Hakodate starts December 1. Compare the live fare, baggage allowance and return inventory rather than choosing on the outbound price alone.

This guide was checked on October 8, 2026, the day Jeju Air announced the resumptions.

The announced Jeju Air winter schedules

ChosunBiz and Newsis both reported the airline's October 8 announcement. Jeju Air's flight schedule tool lists Incheon, Kagoshima and Hakodate as selectable airports and warns that approved schedules, times and aircraft can change.

RouteStart dateOutbound local timeReturn local timeAnnounced frequency

Seoul Incheon ICN-Hakodate HKDDecember 1, 202613:10-15:3016:30-19:30Daily

South Korea and Japan use the same time zone, so no clock conversion is needed for these published times. The Kagoshima flight is scheduled for 1 hour 35 minutes outbound and 1 hour 50 minutes back. Hakodate is scheduled for 2 hours 20 minutes outbound and 3 hours back.

Treat these as planned local times, not a guarantee. Search both directions in Jeju Air's own booking flow and make sure the result remains nonstop before arranging a separate connection, hotel night or airport pickup.

Choose Kagoshima or Hakodate by the trip you want

Kagoshima is the more flexible start date because service begins five weeks earlier. It also works well when the rest of the trip continues through Kyushu. The airport's official bus page lists services for Kagoshima city, Kirishima, Ibusuki and other parts of the region. The airport says the bus stops are directly outside the arrivals exit, but the live operator timetable should decide the connection you book.

Hakodate is the northern winter choice. The airport's published transport guide lists buses for Hakodate Station, Goryokaku, Yunokawa Onsen and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto. That last station matters if the trip continues by Hokkaido Shinkansen. The guide also warns that bus schedules can change, so confirm the current timetable shortly before travel rather than relying on an old screenshot.

If you want both places, do not assume the Jeju Air routes form an efficient triangle. They each operate to and from Incheon. Compare a domestic Japan flight or rail itinerary with returning through Seoul, including baggage fees and self-transfer time.

Check the fare and baggage before comparing totals

Jeju Air sells different international fare types, and the cheapest visible price may not include checked baggage. Open the allowance attached to the exact flight and fare, especially when an agency is selling the ticket. A screenshot of a general baggage table is not a substitute for the allowance displayed in the reservation.

Jeju Air's prepaid baggage page says additional checked baggage can be cheaper online than at the airport and is normally available until 24 hours before departure. It also says the total purchasable checked allowance is capped. Compare the all-in price after adding the bags and seats you will actually use.

For cabin baggage, check both size and combined weight. The airline can require a bag to be checked at the gate even when it is within the normal dimensions if overhead space is limited. Keep passports, medication, batteries and anything needed on arrival in the personal item that stays with you.

Plan for Incheon Terminal 1 and a possible counter visit

Incheon Airport's current departure guide lists Jeju Air at Terminal 1, while warning that the terminal can differ because of airline or codeshare changes. Confirm the terminal on the e-ticket and live airport search.

Jeju Air's mobile boarding pass guide allows international mobile check-in from 24 hours until 90 minutes before departure when the route and passenger qualify. A document check, special assistance, an infant, a codeshare or another restriction can still send you to a counter. The airline advises international passengers to reach the airport about two hours before departure and closes check-in 60 minutes before the scheduled time.

The current Japan-origin eligibility list names Hakodate but not Kagoshima. That means a mobile boarding pass may be available for the Hakodate return while the Kagoshima return may still require airport processing. Eligibility can change before these routes start, so check the reservation rather than treating this as a permanent rule.

Leave a real buffer for separate tickets at Incheon

These flights arrive at Incheon in the late afternoon or evening. A same-day onward flight on another ticket can fail if the first service is delayed, immigration is busy, a bag must be collected or the onward airline's counter closes.

Do not assume Jeju Air will transfer a checked bag merely because the next flight departs from the same terminal. Through-checking depends on the airlines' agreement and how the itinerary was ticketed. Ask at the first check-in desk where the bag is tagged, and read the destination printed on the tag.

If the journeys are separate, build enough time to enter South Korea when required, collect baggage, clear customs, reach the correct terminal or concourse, check in again and pass security. Entry permission may be needed even when the traveler originally thought of the stop as a transit.

Mobile data for Korea and Japan

A Japan OpenSim eSIM fits a trip that stays in Kagoshima, Hakodate or elsewhere in Japan. A South Korea OpenSim eSIM can cover time in Seoul or a landside self-transfer at Incheon. For a trip that uses mobile data in both countries, compare the covered locations in an Asia 12-area OpenSim eSIM with the two country plans.

The public catalog was checked on October 8 and had live packages for all three choices. Prices, data allowances, networks, hotspot support and top-up eligibility vary by package and can change. Read the selected card before checkout. An eSIM provides mobile data on the ground; it does not include inflight Wi-Fi, transfer bags or protect a separate connection.

The Japan eSIM guide explains setup and local use in more detail. Install before departure while reliable Wi-Fi is available, but follow the selected package's activation rule before switching it on.

Ten questions about the resumed Jeju Air routes

When does Jeju Air resume Seoul-Kagoshima flights?

The announced start date is October 25, 2026. The service is planned daily, but confirm that both legs are still nonstop and on sale for the dates you need.

When does Jeju Air resume Seoul-Hakodate flights?

The announced start date is December 1, 2026, with one flight each day. Check the live return inventory because the winter operating period may not cover every later date.

What are the flight times?

ICN-KOJ is scheduled for 12:40-14:15, returning 15:15-17:05. ICN-HKD is scheduled for 13:10-15:30, returning 16:30-19:30. All times are local, and Korea and Japan currently use the same time zone.

Are both routes nonstop?

Yes, the announced flights are nonstop between Incheon and each Japanese airport. A search outside the operating period may show a connection instead, so read the itinerary before paying.

Which Incheon terminal does Jeju Air use?

Incheon Airport currently lists Jeju Air at Terminal 1. Verify the e-ticket and live airport search because operational or codeshare changes can produce an exception.

Does the cheapest Jeju Air fare include checked baggage?

Not necessarily. The allowance depends on the fare shown in the reservation. Compare the final cost after adding any checked bag, seat or other service you need.

Can I check in online for these flights?

Eligible passengers can use Jeju Air's mobile boarding pass service, but route, document and passenger restrictions apply. The current list includes Hakodate among supported Japan departures but does not list Kagoshima, so allow time for a counter visit on the KOJ return.

Can Jeju Air transfer my bag to another airline at Incheon?

Only when the ticketing arrangement and airline agreement support it. Ask at the first airport and confirm the final airport printed on the bag tag. Separate tickets commonly require collection and recheck.

How do I get from Kagoshima Airport to the city?

The official airport guide places Kagoshima city buses at stop 8 outside the terminal. Check the operator's current schedule and payment method for the arrival date, especially for the last services of the day.

Should I buy a Japan or regional Asia eSIM?

Choose a Japan plan when mobile data is needed only in Japan. Compare a regional plan when the itinerary also includes South Korea and confirm that both countries are listed in the selected package's coverage before purchase.

Before booking

  • Search the exact outbound and return dates in Jeju Air's booking flow.
  • Confirm the result is nonstop and matches the intended Japanese airport.
  • Compare the full fare after baggage and seat charges.
  • Recheck the operating terminal and counter opening time.
  • Allow a larger buffer for separate tickets and checked bags at Incheon.
  • Match the destination airport to the actual Kyushu or Hokkaido itinerary.
  • Check the latest airport bus or rail connection before arrival.
  • Save the booking, hotel address and transfer plan offline.
  • Verify passport and entry requirements for every country entered.
  • Choose a Japan-only or regional eSIM from the actual country list.

What could change before these routes start

Jeju Air's announcement supplied the start dates, daily frequency and local times. The airline and airport pages supplied the current schedule, baggage, check-in, terminal and ground-transport boundaries. Public traveler questions helped identify recurring uncertainty around mobile check-in, bags and separate-ticket transfers, but they were not used as policy evidence.

*Airline, airport and OpenSim catalog details were checked on October 8, 2026. Update this guide when Jeju Air starts either route, changes the timetable or operating period, or materially revises the fare, baggage, check-in or route status.*
