What changes in KLM's winter schedule

KLM says it will fly to 93 European and 71 intercontinental destinations during the season. The most passenger-relevant changes are:

• Minneapolis returns to the winter schedule for the first time since winter 2023.
• San Diego becomes a full-winter destination for the first time.
• Panama City rises to as many as ten weekly flights at peak times.
• São Paulo is planned at nine weekly flights.
• Curaçao normally gets nine weekly flights, rising to twelve over Christmas, ten in January and February, and eleven during the spring holiday period.
• Rovaniemi and Kittilä each gain one weekly flight.
• Florence and Basel each gain one daily flight.

These are network-level plans, not a promise that every date has the maximum frequency. Search the exact travel day before arranging a hotel, rail ticket or separate onward flight.

Toronto gets KLM's first A350 passenger flights

Toronto is planned as the first commercial destination for KLM's Airbus A350. KLM says the city will have twelve weekly flights, including five operated by the new aircraft.

The announcement does not give a first-flight date or guarantee the A350 on every Toronto departure. It also does not publish a cabin seat map. That matters because travelers are already asking when the aircraft arrives and which seats it will have. Wait for the aircraft assignment and seat map to appear in the live booking before paying for a seat specifically because it is an A350.

KLM plans to add the A350 later in the winter on flights to Montreal, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Nairobi as more aircraft join the fleet. An aircraft swap remains possible, so treat the type as planned rather than guaranteed.

Some route resumptions are conditional

KLM intends to resume Dubai, Riyadh and Dammam from the start of the winter schedule, but says the exact timetable depends on the situation in the Middle East. It also intends to continue Amsterdam-Tel Aviv after the route resumed on August 25.

Kigali and Entebbe are another conditional case. KLM says it is working toward resuming the route, with Entebbe planned four times a week only if the relevant travel and entry restrictions are lifted.

Do not build a non-refundable trip around an intended resumption alone. Confirm that the flight is available for the date, has a ticketable itinerary and still appears in My Trip after purchase.

Expect some aircraft and departure-time changes

KLM is continuing to phase out the Airbus A330-200. It says Aruba, Bonaire, Riyadh, Dammam and Miami will mainly use Boeing aircraft during the winter, while Premium Comfort capacity increases on several long-haul routes.

The airline is also reducing the number of landings at Schiphol between 23:00 and 07:00 where possible. KLM explicitly warns that some passengers may see a different aircraft type or an adjusted departure time as a result.

Check the booking again before committing to a tight connection or a non-refundable airport transfer. A schedule notification can represent a retiming, a different operating day or an aircraft change, not necessarily the loss of the journey.

Check the fare before comparing prices

KLM's cheapest displayed fare may not include everything you expect. On current intercontinental Economy tickets, Light does not include checked baggage, while Standard and Flex normally include one bag up to 23 kilograms. The exact rule can vary by route, ticket and operating airline, so the confirmation and My Trip are the controlling references.

For European travel, KLM also sells Basic fares on some routes. Their inclusions can differ from Light. Compare the final price after adding cabin baggage, checked baggage, a seat and any flexibility you need.

If one leg is operated by a partner airline, verify that airline's allowance too. Do not assume that the KLM marketing name makes every segment follow the same baggage rule.

Leave room for a Schiphol connection

Schiphol is a single-terminal airport, but the walk and border-control path can still be long. The airport advises travelers to use the live flight details for personal transfer guidance and offers transfer desks and KLM self-service machines if a boarding pass or rebooking is needed.

Most bags on a through itinerary are transferred automatically. Schiphol says passengers on two separate tickets may need to collect the bag and check it in again. That requires entry permission for the Netherlands, time for baggage reclaim and another security check.

KLM currently opens online check-in 30 hours before departure, or 24 hours before flights to or from the United States. It recommends arriving three hours before a departure from Schiphol. Follow the time on the boarding pass when it differs.
