Más Starlink launched commercially in Panama on September 16, 2026. The service lets a compatible phone on an active +Móvil line connect directly to Starlink satellites when the terrestrial mobile network is unavailable. Android support is available at launch, while the carrier's launch material says Apple support is planned for December 2026.
This is a backup connection for particular apps, not full satellite broadband in your pocket. It can keep messages, maps and limited WhatsApp functions available in a genuine outdoor dead zone. It does not replace a normal mobile plan, and it will not force a satellite connection while +Móvil's ground network is present.
The short answer: Más Starlink is most useful for a +Móvil customer who expects to spend time outdoors beyond terrestrial coverage. A visitor who mainly needs data in Panama City, airports, hotels and established tourist areas will usually get more everyday value from a normal travel eSIM. Carry both only when your route and phone make the satellite fallback worthwhile.

The official Starlink announcement describes messaging apps, maps and SMS where there is no cellular signal. +Móvil's launch post places the service in rural, maritime and other remote areas. Those descriptions are useful, but the detailed carrier terms set the real boundaries.
How much Más Starlink costs
The clearest published postpaid offer is a B/.26 monthly promotional plan for new customers. The carrier's business offer and legal terms say that promotion runs from September 16 through September 30, 2026, and includes terrestrial mobile data plus 300 MB of satellite data and unlimited satellite SMS. Taxes are not included in the displayed price.
There is also a number-porting offer from B/.40 with a 20 percent discount during the first 12 months. Existing postpaid customers are directed to request a personalized plan change rather than assume their present plan includes the service.
For prepaid users, the carrier-supplied launch report published by TVN lists B/.3 for 7 days and B/.5 for 30 days. That launch copy does not state a prepaid satellite-data allowance or what happens after it is used. Check the live purchase screen before paying instead of borrowing the 300 MB figure from the postpaid promotion.
Satellite bonuses are separate from terrestrial data. The terms say they do not accumulate or transfer, and recurring subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. Usage notices can arrive at 150 MB, 50 MB and 1 MB remaining. In congestion, the operator may prioritize messages and emergency communication, restrict unsupported apps or reduce performance.
What works over the satellite connection
At launch, the carrier lists a deliberately small set of lighter functions:
- Native SMS on the phone.
- WhatsApp text messages and short data calls.
- Apple Messages text when supported Apple devices arrive.
- Light use of Google Maps and Apple Maps.
- X without video.
- AccuWeather.
The satellite service is not intended for normal web browsing, streaming music or video, video calls, large uploads, large downloads, online gaming or other high-capacity use. Normal VoLTE calling is also excluded. A WhatsApp data call appearing in the launch list does not mean every call will connect cleanly in every location.
Maps deserve particular care. Load the route and essential place details while ordinary data is available. A supported map app can still need more data than a weak or delayed satellite link supplies at the moment you need it.
Phones and lines that can connect
A compatible phone needs an updated operating system, LTE Cat 4 capability or better, supported local LTE bands and an active +Móvil SIM or eSIM. The carrier says compatible Android phones can use the service now. Its launch material schedules Apple support for December 2026, so an iPhone owner should not treat that future date as present availability.
Check the live compatible-device list before changing a plan. A phone having eSIM support does not prove it can use direct-to-phone satellite service. Likewise, buying a separate travel eSIM does not add Más Starlink capability to that travel line.
The phone must have mobile data and roaming enabled. That roaming setting is required even inside Panama because of how the satellite access is presented to the device. The carrier warns that the setting does not remove normal roaming risks when you are outside the country, so review international charges before crossing a border.
Activation and automatic connection
Prepaid customers can use the carrier's stated *456# channel, while postpaid customers can use *457#. Other published options include the +Móvil Super App, the carrier website, SMS to 4747 and customer support. Included postpaid plans may not need a separate satellite add-on.
Complete activation while you still have terrestrial coverage. After the phone loses the ground network, move outdoors to an open area, keep a broad view of the sky and wait for the satellite indicator. Acquisition can take time. Trees, a roof, nearby buildings, steep terrain or a closed vehicle can interrupt it.
The phone returns to terrestrial service when +Móvil coverage becomes available. There is no manual promise to remain on satellite all day, and short interruptions may occur during the handover. That behavior is a feature of the fallback design, not a defect that a travel eSIM can override.
Coverage limits matter more than the map headline
+Móvil presents the service as useful across rural districts, mountains, islands, maritime areas, indigenous comarcas and tourism routes. Its terms still require an outdoor location and do not guarantee signal quality in every one of those places.
Coverage can weaken in severe weather or when the sky is obstructed. Capacity is shared, so performance can vary with demand. The terms also warn that service is not guaranteed within 50 kilometers of Panama's borders with Costa Rica and Colombia. That is an important exception for overland travelers, Darién planning and western border routes.
Do not use Más Starlink as the only way to request emergency help. The carrier explicitly recommends alternatives or a dedicated satellite SOS device. Save emergency numbers, accommodation details and the route offline before entering a remote area.

A Roaming eSIM is still terrestrial mobile data. It does not inherit the Starlink connection, extend a partner network into a dead zone or guarantee signal in the mountains and islands. Más Starlink wins only in the narrow situation it was designed for: an eligible phone and +Móvil line outside terrestrial coverage with enough open sky.

The Panama eSIM page is the direct choice for a Panama-only visit. The public catalog checked on September 17 included a 1 GB plan valid for 7 days at USD7.20 and a 3 GB plan valid for 15 days at USD22.40. Both examples listed terrestrial 3G/4G access and top-up eligibility. Live inventory, prices, taxes and checkout totals can change.
For a trip that continues beyond Panama, compare the South America regional eSIM. Review the included countries before buying, since a regional label does not mean every country or local network is covered.
