NAVITIME eSIM now covers 130+ countries: plans, setup and limits

NAVITIME launched a new international eSIM service on July 22, 2026, bringing mobile data plans into the same travel ecosystem as its transit-planning tools. The launch announcement described 136 supported countries and regions, country and area plans, a global plan, setup before departure and round-the-clock multilingual support.
The service has already moved beyond part of that launch description. NAVITIME initially said the sales site supported Japanese, but an English store and support center are now live. The current storefront promotes coverage in 130+ countries and displays 122 country pages. Travelers should therefore search the live catalog for every destination instead of treating the launch total as a permanent list.
The traveler decision: NAVITIME eSIM is most distinctive for people who want to retain one profile for later plans and can use its 100MB pre-trip connection test in Japan. Before buying, check the exact destination, high-speed allowance, activation clock and phone compatibility. The test is not advertised as a worldwide feature.
What NAVITIME launched on July 22
The official launch announcement introduced three ways to buy data:
- a country plan for one destination;
- an area plan for several countries in a region; and
- a global plan for wider travel.
NAVITIME says a customer can keep the installed eSIM profile and add another plan later. That can reduce repeated QR-code setup on future trips, provided the original profile remains on the phone.
The company also places the service alongside NAVITIME Transit, its public-transport route app. The navigation app and mobile-data plan solve different parts of a journey: Transit can calculate routes and show maps, while the eSIM supplies a data connection that can keep live searches available away from Wi-Fi. Buying the eSIM does not make every transit feature free, and installing the route app does not include mobile data by itself.
Why the NAVITIME eSIM country totals differ
Three first-party numbers are visible:
| First-party page | Coverage wording | What it means for a traveler |
|---|---|---|
| July 22 launch announcement | 136 countries and regions | The scope announced at launch |
| Current international store | 130+ countries worldwide | The current marketing description |
| Current country selector | 122 countries found | The country pages displayed during our August 14 check |
These numbers do not establish that a particular country has disappeared. A catalog can count regional products, sales destinations and country pages differently, and availability can change. The safe check is the current NAVITIME eSIM destination selector for the full route, including stopovers and border crossings.
Do the same check again just before purchase. A screenshot of 136 destinations from July does not confirm that the right data allowance, validity or network is available in August.
Current NAVITIME eSIM plan examples
The English storefront showed these starting examples when checked on August 14, 2026:
| Destination | Displayed plan | Displayed starting price |
|---|---|---|
| South Korea | 1GB for 7 days | JPY 680 |
| Taiwan | 1GB for 7 days | JPY 680 |
| Hong Kong | 1GB for 7 days | JPY 680 |
| United States | 1GB for 7 days | JPY 880 |
| Thailand | 1GB for 7 days | JPY 880 |
| Japan | Unlimited for 3 days | JPY 1,980 |
The United States plan page listed 11 fixed-data choices from 1GB for seven days at JPY 880 to 15GB for 30 days at JPY 4,980. That is one destination, not a worldwide price table. Taxes, payment currency, plan stock and final terms should be checked on the package page at checkout.
The 100MB pre-departure test currently works in Japan
NAVITIME promotes a 100MB test that lets a customer install the profile and confirm a connection before traveling. This is a useful setup check, but the current how-to page and support details specify that the test is available in Japan.
That distinction matters:
- A customer in Japan can install the eSIM, select it for data, enable roaming on that line and use the test allowance.
- A customer already outside Japan should not expect the same 100MB test merely because the storefront is available in English.
- A successful test in Japan confirms that the profile can connect there. It does not prove the quality of the partner network at a distant destination.
The test is optional. NAVITIME says the purchased travel plan starts when the eSIM first connects to a supported network at the destination, not when the QR code is scanned. A plan can remain unused for up to 365 days after purchase according to the current support page.
Install before departure, but protect the profile
NAVITIME's setup flow is familiar: buy a plan, scan the QR code, install the eSIM, then select that line and enable data roaming at the destination. The compatibility page should be checked before payment because the phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.
The QR code is for one installation. NAVITIME warns customers not to delete the eSIM profile, because it cannot be reinstalled or recovered after deletion and a replacement is not automatically issued. That is more consequential than turning a line off temporarily.
Before scanning the QR code:
- Open the instructions on another screen or print them.
- Confirm that the phone is unlocked and has an Add eSIM option.
- Give the travel line a clear label such as NAVITIME Travel.
- Keep the usual SIM selected for calls if a home number is still needed.
- Turn off cellular-data switching so the home line does not take over and create roaming charges.
- Do not remove the new profile after testing it.
Our Roaming eSIM installation-timing guide explains why installation and activation are separate events. The phone compatibility guide covers the device and carrier-lock checks.
NAVITIME eSIM is data-only
NAVITIME's current support page describes the service as data-only. It does not provide a destination-local phone number, ordinary mobile voice calls or SMS.
WhatsApp, FaceTime, LINE and other internet-calling services can work over the data connection, subject to the app, destination rules and enough data. Keep the home SIM active if bank codes or calls to the usual number matter, but stop that line from using mobile data if international roaming charges are a concern.
Hotspot use was not clearly stated in the public NAVITIME support material reviewed for this report. A traveler who needs to connect a laptop or share data should ask support about the exact plan before paying rather than infer permission from the data allowance.
What unlimited data means on NAVITIME eSIM
The word unlimited does not mean unlimited high-speed data. NAVITIME's FAQ says unlimited plans can include a daily high-speed allowance of 2GB, 3GB or 6GB, depending on the selected plan. After that daily allowance is used, the maximum speed is 384 Kbps until midnight local time.
Fixed-data plans work differently. When the purchased allowance is exhausted, the connection stops rather than continuing at reduced speed. NAVITIME says extra capacity can be added in My Page when the plan supports it, so top-up should be checked at package level.
For maps, messaging and ordinary route searches, a small fixed plan may be enough. Video, cloud backup and laptop tethering can use the allowance much faster. Use the travel data calculator before choosing between a fixed plan and a daily high-speed allowance.
Refund and support conditions need an early report
NAVITIME offers 24/7 help through WhatsApp and also lists email support, with email replies normally expected within 24 hours. Its refund terms distinguish an unused plan from a service problem.
The current FAQ says an unused plan can be refunded. A service-failure request is narrower: the customer needs to contact support while still in the destination, cooperate with troubleshooting and show total unavailability caused by a serious provider-side issue. Slow service or a problem reported only after leaving may not meet that standard.
Deleting the profile is also not a network failure. NAVITIME says a deleted profile cannot be reissued for free and does not qualify for a refund on that basis. Save the order email, QR code and support conversation, but leave the installed profile on the phone.
NAVITIME eSIM versus Roaming eSIM
NAVITIME has built a credible option around a reusable profile and a Japan-based setup test. Roaming eSIM is the stronger choice when the traveler wants to compare a larger set of clearly described Japan packages and choose among country, regional and global routes before checkout.
| Traveler decision | NAVITIME eSIM | Roaming eSIM edge |
|---|---|---|
| Japan plan choice | Current storefront shows fixed and unlimited examples | The public Japan catalog returned 43 live plans, including fixed and daily options |
| Network detail | Store says at least two carriers are available in all areas | Each public package record identifies the supported Japan operators and network-speed label |
| Top-up | Available depending on the plan | Every public card exposes whether that exact plan is top-up eligible |
| Pre-trip test | 100MB test is a useful feature while the customer is in Japan | Setup guidance does not depend on describing a Japan-only test as a worldwide check |
| Multi-country routes | Country, area and global plans are offered | Dedicated Japan, Asia, Europe and Global product pages make route comparison direct |
| Support | 24/7 WhatsApp support and email | 24/7 support and WhatsApp are available through a travel-connectivity service |
| Calls and SMS | Data-only | Data-plan limits are explained before purchase, with a separate calling guide for the home line |
The live Roaming eSIM Japan catalog was checked at 13:03 UTC on August 14. It returned 43 plans. Examples included 1GB for seven days at $1.40, 5GB for 30 days at $5.40 and 10GB for 30 days at $9.40. Those examples were marked top-up eligible and showed the supported operator set. Other plans use different operators, speeds, daily allowances and top-up rules. Final checkout totals can include fees or currency conversion.
π Roaming eSIM wins for plan visibility and route choice: the traveler can compare many live Japan packages, see operator and top-up fields for the selected plan, then move to an Asia, Europe or global page when the itinerary crosses borders. NAVITIME wins on its 100MB setup test for customers who are physically in Japan and want to retain one profile for later purchases.
This is not a claim that one network will always be faster. Both services depend on local partner networks, the phone, congestion and location. It is a decision about how much package detail and route choice the traveler can verify before paying.

Ten NAVITIME eSIM questions travelers are asking
1. Is NAVITIME eSIM available outside Japan?
Yes. An English sales and support site is now live, along with several other language versions. The 100MB pre-departure connection test is still described as a Japan-only feature.
2. Does NAVITIME eSIM cover 136 countries?
The launch announcement said 136 countries and regions. The current store markets 130+ countries and displayed 122 country pages during our check. Search every destination in the live selector instead of relying on one total.
3. Can I install NAVITIME eSIM before I fly?
Yes. NAVITIME tells customers to install before departure. The purchased plan starts on the first supported connection at the destination, while the optional 100MB test can be used in Japan.
4. When does the plan validity begin?
The current support page says validity begins when the eSIM first connects at the destination. The plan can be started within 365 days of purchase, but the selected package remains the final authority.
5. Is NAVITIME eSIM unlimited at full speed?
No. Unlimited plans can provide 2GB, 3GB or 6GB of high-speed data per day. After that threshold, speed is capped at up to 384 Kbps until midnight local time.
6. Can I make calls or receive SMS?
Not through the NAVITIME data line. It has no local number, carrier voice service or SMS. Internet calling can use the data connection, and the usual SIM can remain active for its own calls and messages.
7. Can I use NAVITIME eSIM as a hotspot?
The public support material reviewed for this report did not give a clear general hotspot rule. Ask NAVITIME about the exact package if tethering is essential.
8. Can I top up the same NAVITIME eSIM?
Sometimes. NAVITIME says capacity can be added through My Page when the plan permits it. Keeping the original profile installed also allows another eligible plan to be added later.
9. What happens if I delete the eSIM profile?
NAVITIME says the one-use QR code cannot reinstall a deleted profile. The profile cannot be recovered, and deletion does not qualify for a free reissue or refund.
10. Can I get a refund if it does not connect?
An unused plan can be refundable. For a connection failure, contact support while still at the destination and complete its troubleshooting. The published service-failure conditions require total unavailability tied to a serious provider-side issue.
Sources and updates
First-party pages decide the launch, coverage, plan, activation, support and refund facts.
Most available posts discussed NAVITIME's older Japan product, so their speed and coverage anecdotes were not transferred to the new global service.
Roaming eSIM package availability was checked through the public Japan catalog on the same date. Live product cards remain the source of truth for prices, operators, speed labels and top-up eligibility.
Update policy: We will recheck this article if NAVITIME changes its country count, expands the 100MB test beyond Japan, publishes a general hotspot rule, revises the unlimited-data thresholds or materially changes activation, top-up, support or refund terms.
