SAS is opening its nonstop Copenhagen-Mumbai route on October 1, 2026. Copenhagen Airport's live page showed SK969 boarding at Terminal 3, gate C32, for a 16:10 departure when checked at 15:18 local time. That is the strongest public signal yet that the delayed link is finally moving from the timetable to the runway.

The year-round service is planned five times a week with an Airbus A330. The return flight, SK970, is due to begin from Mumbai on October 3. Travelers who were affected by earlier launch changes should still treat the flight status and issued ticket as the final word for their date.

The practical answer: Search SK969 from Copenhagen and SK970 from Mumbai for the exact travel date. SAS advertises five weekly flights with an A330, but the route moved from its original June start and winter times can differ. Use the live booking, flight status and ticket details before arranging a connection or airport transport.

This guide was checked on October 1, 2026, while the inaugural SK969 was boarding.

SK969 is active for the October 1 launch

SAS first planned to start Copenhagen-Mumbai service in June. Its August route update reset the opening to October 1 and said operational preparations were complete. On launch day, Copenhagen Airport listed SK969 as boarding at gate C32 rather than merely appearing in a future timetable.

The launch announcement listed SK969 at 16:10 from Copenhagen, arriving in Mumbai at 04:30 the next day. It listed SK970 at 06:30 from Mumbai, arriving in Copenhagen at 12:15. All are local times. Do not assume those times apply throughout the winter schedule. Search the chosen date on SAS and recheck shortly before travel.

The direct flight removes one connection

The new route is the first SAS link to India in 17 years. It gives travelers between Scandinavia and Mumbai a nonstop option, while passengers from other European or North American cities may be able to connect through Copenhagen on one SAS itinerary.

Nonstop does not mean every booking is protected. If the feeder flight and SK969 are on separate tickets, a delay can leave the traveler responsible for a missed onward flight. Checked bags may also need to be collected and checked in again. Keep the journey on one ticket when practical, and ask the check-in agent where the bag is tagged.

A Copenhagen connection crosses the Schengen border

Mumbai is outside the Schengen Area. Copenhagen Airport says every passenger crossing the Schengen border goes through passport control. A traveler arriving from a Schengen airport and continuing to Mumbai should allow time for that step and the walk to the non-Schengen gate.

A one-ticket connection sold by SAS is different from a self-transfer assembled from separate bookings. For a self-transfer, check whether baggage collection, entry permission and a new security screening are required. A short published connection time should never be copied onto an unprotected itinerary.

The A330 has three travel classes

SAS says the 266-seat A330 used for the route has Business, Premium and Economy cabins. The exact seat, refund, change and lounge conditions depend on the fare purchased, not only the cabin name.

Current SAS ticket rules say long-haul Economy Light includes a small underseat item and an 8 kg carry-on, but no checked bag. Economy Standard adds one checked bag up to 23 kg. Premium lists two 23 kg checked bags, while Business lists two 32 kg checked bags. Check My trips because EuroBonus status, partner segments and a ticket reissue can change the allowance shown for an itinerary.

Check-in opens 30 hours before most SAS flights

SAS says online check-in is normally available from 30 hours until one hour before departure. For travel from Scandinavia to a non-Schengen country, its current deadline page recommends arriving three hours before departure, with check-in and bag drop closing 60 minutes before departure and boarding closing 35 minutes before departure.

Those are airline-wide rules, not a promise that every document check will be quick. Passengers may need a staffed counter for visa review, assistance, pets or special baggage. Follow the tighter deadline if the ticket, airport or operating airline shows one.

India requires passport-specific entry preparation

India's official visa portal says foreign nationals generally need a valid passport and an eligible visa or eVisa unless an exemption applies. It also says foreign nationals and OCI cardholders must submit the official e-Arrival Card within 72 hours before arrival. The e-Arrival Card is not a visa.

Use only an official Indian government site for the application. Requirements depend on nationality, passport type and purpose of travel, so check them before relying on a nonrefundable ticket. A data plan or airline booking does not provide entry permission.

Mobile data for Copenhagen and Mumbai

An OpenSim India eSIM is the direct country option for a Mumbai stay. An OpenSim Denmark eSIM can cover time in Copenhagen, while an OpenSim Europe eSIM may suit an itinerary that continues through several included European destinations.

OpenSim's live catalog was checked on October 1. Read the current product card for the included locations, allowance, validity, network generation, speed conditions and top-up eligibility. Some daily plans continue at reduced speed after the high-speed allowance is used, and not every plan is reloadable.

Mobile data can help with flight alerts, maps, hotel contact and ground transport after landing. It does not include SAS inflight Wi-Fi, voice calls or SMS unless the selected product explicitly says so, and it cannot protect a separate-ticket connection.

Ten questions about SAS Copenhagen-Mumbai flights

Has SAS started flying from Copenhagen to Mumbai?

The launch is underway. Copenhagen Airport showed SK969 boarding at Terminal 3, gate C32, for the October 1 departure when this guide was checked. Recheck SAS flight status for later dates.

How often will SAS fly to Mumbai?

SAS advertises five flights a week in each direction. The operating days and times can change with the season, so search the exact date instead of building plans from a weekly summary.

What are the SK969 and SK970 times?

The launch timetable listed SK969 at 16:10 from Copenhagen and SK970 at 06:30 from Mumbai. Both arrive the same local calendar day shown for their destination except SK969, which arrives the following morning. Use the live time on the booking because schedules can change.

Which aircraft does SAS use on the route?

SAS announced a 266-seat Airbus A330 with Business, Premium and Economy. Aircraft substitutions remain possible, so confirm the seat map and cabin before paying for an aircraft-specific feature.

Is one hour enough to connect in Copenhagen?

Only use a short connection that the airline sells as one protected itinerary and that fits the traveler's mobility and document needs. Passport control and a long gate walk may apply. One hour is not a safe general recommendation for a self-transfer.

Will checked bags transfer through Copenhagen?

They usually can on an eligible through-ticket, but the bag tag and itinerary are the authority. Separate tickets may require collection and a new check-in. Ask the origin agent to confirm the final airport printed on the tag.

What baggage does an SAS Economy Light ticket include?

Not under the current long-haul fare description. Economy Light includes cabin baggage, while Economy Standard includes one checked bag up to 23 kg. Always read the allowance displayed for the actual booking.

How early should I reach Copenhagen Airport?

SAS recommends three hours before a Scandinavia to non-Schengen departure. Its current general cutoff is 60 minutes for check-in and bag drop and 35 minutes for boarding, but a ticket or airport notice may require more time.

Do I need an e-Arrival Card for Mumbai?

Foreign nationals and OCI cardholders should check the official Indian portal, which currently requires the card within 72 hours before arrival. It is separate from any visa or eVisa requirement.

Does the route operate every day?

No. SAS announced five weekly flights, not daily service. Search the date before booking hotels, trains or a separate onward flight.

Before you book

  • Search SK969 or SK970 for the exact date.
  • Confirm the local departure and arrival times.
  • Check the aircraft and cabin shown in the booking.
  • Read the fare's change, refund, seat and baggage rules.
  • Keep connecting flights on one ticket when practical.
  • Confirm the final airport on the baggage tag.
  • Allow time for passport control at Copenhagen.
  • Check Indian visa and e-Arrival requirements for the passport used.
  • Plan Mumbai transport only after allowing for immigration and baggage reclaim.
  • Recheck flight status before leaving for the airport.

Primary sources and update boundary

SAS's August release supports the October 1 start, October 3 first return, five-weekly plan, A330 and launch timetable. Its earlier release records the original June plan. Copenhagen Airport's live departure page supports the launch-day status. SAS passenger pages support the fare, baggage, check-in and flight-status guidance, while Copenhagen Airport and the Government of India support the border and entry sections.

Public traveler discussions were used to identify recurring questions about the earlier postponement, short Copenhagen connections, split tickets, baggage transfer and India's e-Arrival Card. They were not used as authority for airline policy, border rules or operating status.

We will update this guide if SAS changes the schedule, frequency, aircraft, baggage, connection rules or operating status. Travelers should still use the airline's current flight status and their issued itinerary.
