SK Telecom extends T Roaming data bonus through December

SK Telecom has extended its T Roaming Data Add-on promotion through December 31, 2026. The offer gives customers on eligible baro roaming plans more data at the existing listed fees, with the largest tier receiving an extra 16GB.

The extension matters only to eligible SK Telecom customers. It does not turn baro into a standalone travel eSIM that anyone can buy, and it does not confirm that every other SKT summer promotion will continue through December.

The traveler answer: An SK Telecom customer who wants to keep a Korean number, included texts and baro calling may find the extended plan convenient. A traveler who mainly needs mobile data, or whose phone line is with another carrier, should compare a destination travel eSIM by allowance, validity and final price.

What SK Telecom extended on September 8

SK Telecom began the data promotion on April 23 and had planned to end it in August. Its September 8 announcement moves the deadline to December 31, covering Chuseok and year-end travel.

The deadline applies to the data add-on. SK Telecom's April campaign also included a separate 70% first-roaming discount for selected customers, but the September announcement does not explicitly extend that offer. Do not budget around the earlier discount unless it appears in your own T world account at checkout.

The slower data continues after the allowance ends

The promoted 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB tiers continue at up to 1 Mbps after their included high-speed data is exhausted. That may be workable for messaging, maps and light browsing, but it is not the same as unrestricted high-speed data.

The smaller baro 3GB plan has a different published continuation speed of up to 400 Kbps. At that speed, basic messages can still work, while image-heavy pages, video and large downloads may feel slow.

Keeping the Korean number is baro's main practical advantage

baro uses the customer's existing SK Telecom line. There is no separate travel eSIM profile to install, and the published plan includes SMS and MMS. That can be useful for Korean one-time passwords and for people who need their usual number while away.

Calls work differently. SK Telecom routes its included baro calls through the A. Phone application. Under the published conditions, calls to Korea and within the visited country are free, while calls to a third country are not included. A phone call made outside the app can follow ordinary roaming rates instead.

A data-only travel eSIM does not replace those native SKT number features. Some dual-SIM phones can keep the home line available for calls and texts while using a travel eSIM for data, but the home carrier can still charge for activity. Family Roaming can spread one allowance across five people

SK Telecom's Family Roaming add-on costs KRW3,000 and lets the representative customer share a baro allowance with up to four family members, making five users in total. That can be simpler than buying five separate roaming plans when everyone is eligible and travels together.

Once the shared high-speed data is gone, the representative line follows the continuation speed of its selected baro plan. Family lines continue at up to 400 Kbps. Heavy video use by one person can therefore affect the whole group.

SK Telecom says cumulative Family Roaming customers have passed 5.05 million. It also reports that 78% of households using T Roaming selected the family option. These are company figures, and the public release does not provide enough survey detail to reproduce the percentage independently.

Youth benefits are separate from the extension

Customers aged 34 and under receive an additional 1GB under the current published baro terms. SK Telecom also lists a 50% roaming-plan discount for qualifying customers on certain 0 Youth, Best or Light plans.

Those benefits have their own eligibility rules. Age alone does not prove that every discount applies, and neither benefit should be confused with the earlier 70% first-roaming campaign. The safest check is the final benefit and fee shown after signing into T world.

Coverage is broad, but the local network still matters

SK Telecom describes baro as covering 195 countries through more than 500 partner operators. That is a broad footprint, not a promise of the same carrier, speed or signal in every destination.

Before departure, check that every country on the itinerary is included. Save the partner list and manual network-selection instructions offline. Border crossings and islands are good reasons to check country coverage individually rather than assuming a nearby network belongs to the plan.

SK Telecom's published roaming manual includes manual network selection when automatic registration fails. Turning a phone off and on, confirming roaming settings and selecting a listed partner are practical first steps. Avoid choosing an unlisted network just because it appears on the screen.

baro or a travel eSIM for an overseas trip

baro is the stronger fit when an eligible SK Telecom customer values the Korean number, SMS, app-based calling and a familiar carrier account. The December extension improves the data allowance on the higher tiers without changing that basic proposition.

A travel eSIM is the cleaner fit when the trip is data-first, the traveler is not an SK Telecom customer, or a destination-specific allowance costs less for the actual dates. It also lets a dual-SIM user separate travel data from the home line, provided the phone supports eSIM and is not carrier-locked.

The public Roaming eSIM catalog was checked on September 8. It listed 43 Japan packages starting at USD0.60 and 31 Vietnam packages starting at USD0.60. Those starting prices represent very small allowances, not a full-trip recommendation. For example, the checked catalog included 1GB for seven days at USD1.40 for Japan and USD1.70 for Vietnam.
