One fair coupon equals $1. Coupons pay for food, drinks, Midway rides and games. They do not replace admission, parking or ordinary merchandise payment. Coupons from previous fairs remain valid in later years, according to the organizer.

The important budget lesson is that admission is only the starting cost. The fair says most rides cost 4 to 10 coupons and games cost 3 to 15. Concessionaires set their own food prices, so two similar items can cost different amounts.

For 2026, the organizer says most Midway ride and game prices are down by an average of 17 percent. Its Every Day Values list includes one-coupon bottled water at selected locations, an eight-coupon original corny dog, a six-coupon carousel ride and more than 200 food and beverage choices priced at $10 or less. These are named value choices, not a promise that every stand is inexpensive.

Use this sequence instead of buying a large coupon bundle immediately:

1. Walk through one food area and the relevant part of the Midway.
2. Note the coupon prices for the items your group actually wants.
3. Agree on a per-person ride, game and food limit.
4. Buy the first round of coupons at the fair, then add more only if needed.
5. Keep unused coupons for another year rather than spending them merely to reach zero.

Advance coupon pickup requires the purchaser's physical government-issued photo ID. Photos, photocopies and temporary identification are not accepted. That extra step can remove any benefit for a one-day visitor, so buying at a booth or kiosk after arrival may be simpler.

DART to the State Fair of Texas

The Green Line serves Fair Park Station at the Parry Avenue entrance and MLK, Jr. Station near Gate 6 and the Cotton Bowl. Pick the station for your first destination, not simply the first train stop you recognize.

On weekdays, Red, Blue, Orange and TRE passengers generally transfer to the Green Line at the station DART specifies for their direction. On Saturdays, Sundays and Monday, October 12, Orange Line trains operate between DFW Airport Station and Buckner Station, adding service through Fair Park. DART says Green and Orange trains will serve the Fair Park corridor every 10 minutes on those dates.

Use the DART State Fair page and GoPass trip planner on your actual date. The page also lists the last Green Line connections to the final TRE train toward Fort Worth. A fair closing time does not guarantee a later regional train.

New State Fair Flyer buses on weekends

The 2026 State Fair Flyer gives a direct Saturday and Sunday ride from:

• Addison Station;
• Downtown Rowlett Station;
• Glenn Heights Park & Ride;
• Lake Ray Hubbard Transit Center.

Buses drop off and return from Lot 8 near the Midway Gate. Return buses are listed hourly from noon through 8 PM.

DART's live page currently repeats the Flyer section with two different outbound windows. One says hourly departures from 9 AM to 5 PM; the other says 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM while also describing departures as on the hour. Do not choose a bus from either line alone. Check GoPass, DART alerts or DART customer service before leaving.

DFW Airport and Dallas Love Field

From DFW Airport, the Orange Line is the rail spine. On fair weekends and October 12, its modified route runs through the Fair Park corridor. On an ordinary weekday, follow DART's current transfer instructions instead of assuming the weekend pattern applies.

From Dallas Love Field, Route 5 Love Link runs between the lower-level airport pickup area and Inwood/Love Field Station. From there, take a Green Line train marked for Buckner to Fair Park. Keep airport luggage at your accommodation. The fair is a long walking day and does not function as an airport storage stop.

State Fair parking, rideshare and taxi pickup

Official fair parking costs $25 per space. Gate 2 at 925 S. Haskell Avenue is the organizer's main published approach. Accessible parking requires the appropriate plate or hang tag. Overnight parking is not allowed except in the designated RV arrangement for Texas versus Oklahoma weekend.

DART Park & Ride lots are another option, but not every station has free fair parking. DART specifically says there is no parking at SMU/Mockingbird Station and that J.B. Jackson, Jr. Transit Center charges during the fair.

For rideshare and taxi service, the organizer recommends the staging area near 4206 Gurley Avenue on Haskell. A taxi stand is also listed at Pacific and Gurley outside Gate 1. Save the exact pickup address before entering. At night, meet at the fixed staging area rather than following a driver's moving pin through pedestrian traffic.

The October 10 Red River Rivalry brings a separate DART service plan and much heavier Cotton Bowl movement. If the football game is not part of your visit, another fair day is easier to plan. If it is, use DART's current game-day page rather than a previous year's shuttle timetable.

State Fair of Texas bag policy and outside food

Bags do not have to be clear. The fair recommends a clear bag to speed inspection, but ordinary bags are permitted and searched. Soft coolers must be no larger than 9 by 10 by 12 inches. Hard coolers are prohibited unless medically necessary.

Visitors may bring food and nonalcoholic drinks. Alcohol, glass containers and metal knives or forks are prohibited. This makes a packed snack or simple lunch a legitimate budget tool, especially for families and visitors with dietary needs.

Morning: included attractions before the Midway

Arrive close to 10 AM. Start with one included exhibit, the auto show, livestock areas or a scheduled family show while queues are shorter. The Midway opens later on most days, so there is no reason to rush straight to closed rides.

If children are the priority, begin around Little Lone Stars Land near the Gurley Gate or the reworked Kidway. Little Lone Stars Land brings toddler and young-child rides, a play area, petting zoo, food and shows into one area. Most Kidway rides are listed at five coupons, dropping to three on Tuesdays. Verify height rules at each ride before buying a stack of coupons for a child who cannot use it.

Afternoon: food, shade and a limited ride budget

Choose lunch after seeing the actual coupon prices. Use the Every Day Values list as a starting point, then compare nearby stands. Build a seated indoor or shaded stop into the afternoon. Dallas was still experiencing heat advisories in mid-September, so the calendar alone does not guarantee cool fair weather.

Check the National Weather Service Dallas forecast on the morning of the visit. The fair operates rain or shine, but rides and outdoor shows can pause for rain, lightning, wind or other unsafe conditions. The organizer does not promise rain checks.

Evening: one fixed show and a planned departure

The Starlight Parade is scheduled nightly at 7 PM. Choose one evening feature and one departure time instead of trying to add every remaining ride. If you depend on TRE, a Flyer bus or another timed connection, work backward from its final departure rather than the fair's closing time.

State Fair of Texas with children and sensory needs

Children aged 3 to 12 have their own ticket range, and children 2 and younger enter free. A stroller can help with the long distances, but dense Midway periods are harder to navigate. Photograph the child at arrival, place a contact number in a pocket and agree on a fixed meeting point that staff can identify.

Sensory-Friendly Mornings run on Wednesday, September 30, October 7 and October 14 from 10 AM to 1:30 PM. Designated Midway areas reduce lights and sounds from 11 AM to 1:30 PM.
