TransNusa Melbourne-Bali flights: launch schedule and checks

TransNusa is scheduled to start flying between Bali and Melbourne on October 19, 2026. That date refers to the first Bali departure. The first Melbourne-origin flight is listed for the following morning, October 20, after the aircraft arrives from Denpasar overnight.

Melbourne Airport announced four flights a week in each direction using a 174-seat Airbus A320. Its announcement and current schedule listings do not agree on every startup time, so passengers should use the issued itinerary rather than building an airport transfer around one published timetable.

The practical answer: The route starts with a Bali-to-Melbourne flight on October 19, followed by the first Melbourne-to-Bali departure on October 20. Melbourne Airport announced four weekly services, but a current timetable lists a 06:25 Melbourne departure during the first week and 05:30 after October 25, rather than the airport announcement's 05:25. Check the exact date in TransNusa's booking system and on the issued itinerary.

The route starts overnight, not with a Melbourne departure on October 19

Melbourne Airport's announcement says TransNusa service starts on October 19. It lists Melbourne departures on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with Bali departures on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The date split matters. Flight 8B18 is scheduled to leave Bali late on October 19 and reach Melbourne the next morning. Flight 8B19 then operates from Melbourne to Bali on October 20. A traveler searching only for a Melbourne departure on the announced launch date could wrongly conclude that the route is missing.

The route was still at the scheduled-launch stage when this guide was checked, before the first 8B18 departure. A scheduled flight is not proof that it has operated. Check the airline and airport status for the individual flight before leaving for the terminal.

Published departure times conflict during the first weeks

Melbourne Airport describes a 05:25 departure from Melbourne. A current 8B19 timetable listing instead shows 06:25 departures on October 20, 22, 23 and 24, followed by 05:30 departures from October 27. The same listing shows a later move to daily service from November 16.

Those differences could reflect a startup revision, the October 25 seasonal clock change, or an update moving through booking systems. The available sources do not establish one permanent time for every date, so this guide does not present any of them as universal.

Search the exact travel date on TransNusa's site. Then compare the flight number, local departure date and time with the issued itinerary. Recheck after any airline message, especially if accommodation, parking or a domestic connection depends on the early-morning departure.

Four weekly flights add a sixth airline on the route

Melbourne Airport says TransNusa becomes the sixth airline flying between Melbourne and Bali. The announced Airbus A320 has 174 seats, and the four-weekly pattern would add more than 70,000 seats a year.

That extra choice does not make all fares interchangeable. Compare the final price, baggage, change terms, arrival time and any onward connection, not just the first fare shown. A very early Melbourne departure can also change the practical cost of reaching the airport or staying nearby.

Prospective passengers should confirm that the chosen flight is sold on the exact date needed. Booked passengers should keep the contact details in their reservation current and use the airline's message or manage-booking channel if the startup timetable changes.

Check in at the airport for this international flight

TransNusa's web check-in terms say online check-in is available only for domestic flights. Melbourne-Bali passengers should plan for counter check-in unless the airline provides different instructions for this route.

The airline's conditions of carriage say international counters generally open three hours and close 60 minutes before scheduled departure. Airport or flight-specific instructions can differ. For an early flight, work backwards from the time on the ticket and allow for the trip to Melbourne Airport, baggage drop and document checks.

Confirm the terminal in the itinerary or Melbourne Airport's live flight information. Do not rely on another airline's Bali terminal assignment merely because it flies the same route.

The 20 kg checked allowance and 7 kg cabin limit are different

Melbourne Airport says TransNusa includes 20 kg of checked baggage on all fares for the new service. The final booking and ticket remain the best evidence for the allowance attached to a specific passenger.

TransNusa's current baggage policy permits two cabin pieces weighing no more than 7 kg in total. The main piece can measure up to 56 by 36 by 23 cm, while the conditions of carriage give a separate 40 by 30 by 10 cm limit for the smaller laptop bag, handbag or personal bag.

Do not combine the 20 kg checked allowance and 7 kg cabin allowance into one pool. Add extra checked baggage before reaching the airport if the live booking offers it and the price works for the trip. An individual checked item over 32 kg is not accepted under the published conditions.

Complete Indonesia's arrival steps before the flight

Indonesia's immigration FAQ says all international passengers must use the All Indonesia arrival declaration. Visa or entry permission depends on nationality, passport, travel purpose and length of stay. Check the official immigration service rather than assuming an Australian departure creates automatic entry eligibility.

Bali also has a foreign tourist levy. The official Love Bali service gives the current payment and exemption process. Keep any required arrival confirmation, visa and levy voucher available offline in case mobile service or airport Wi-Fi is slow.

After immigration, baggage and customs, Bali Airport lists public and app-based transport options on its ground transport page. Confirm the pickup zone in the terminal rather than following an old screenshot or an unsolicited driver message.

Treat an onward trip from Bali as a separate decision

TransNusa promotes connections beyond Bali, but a route announcement does not prove that two flights are protected on one ticket or that checked baggage will transfer. Check whether the onward sector appears on the same ticket, whether bags are checked through, and what the airline promises if the first flight is late.

On separate tickets, allow time for immigration if required, baggage collection, customs, terminal movement and a new check-in deadline. A short connection that works on a timetable may fail after even a modest delay. A hotel night can be more practical than relying on an unprotected same-day connection.

Mobile data for a Melbourne and Bali trip

OpenSim's live catalog had plans for Australia and Indonesia when this guide was reviewed. Travelers who want one plan selection for both countries can also compare Asia 20 Areas, whose current coverage includes Australia and Indonesia.

A country plan can fit a stay mainly on one side of the route. A regional plan can reduce plan switching on a return or multi-stop trip, but the selected card's allowance, validity, speed policy and top-up status still need to fit. Not every package is reloadable.

Install while reliable Wi-Fi is available and follow the selected package's activation instructions. An OpenSim eSIM supplies data on supported ground networks. It does not provide inflight Wi-Fi, change a flight or protect a separate-ticket connection.

Ten questions about the new TransNusa route

Is TransNusa flying from Melbourne to Bali on October 19?

The route starts with a Bali departure on October 19. The first Melbourne-to-Bali flight is listed for October 20 after the aircraft arrives overnight.

What days will TransNusa fly Melbourne to Bali?

Melbourne Airport announced departures on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Check the exact date because the startup week and later daily-service listing may not follow one permanent pattern.

What time does TransNusa leave Melbourne?

The airport announcement says 05:25, while a current timetable lists 06:25 during the first week and 05:30 after October 25. Use the time on the issued itinerary.

Are the flights numbered 8B18 and 8B19?

Current schedule listings use 8B18 from Bali to Melbourne and 8B19 from Melbourne to Bali. Match the number and date to the booking before travel.

Is the route operating daily?

Melbourne Airport announced four weekly flights. A schedule listing shows daily service from November 16, but passengers should verify their exact date rather than treating that future pattern as guaranteed.

Does every TransNusa Melbourne fare include checked baggage?

Melbourne Airport says all fares on the route include 20 kg. Confirm the allowance in the final booking and ticket, particularly after a schedule or fare change.

What cabin bags fit TransNusa's published limit?

TransNusa publishes a combined 7 kg limit for two cabin pieces. The main bag can be up to 56 by 36 by 23 cm, and the smaller personal item has its own size limit.

Can I check in online for Melbourne to Bali?

The airline's published web check-in rules limit the service to domestic flights. Plan to use the airport counter unless TransNusa gives route-specific instructions.

Can I connect to another TransNusa flight in Bali?

Possibly, but verify whether both flights are on one protected ticket and whether baggage is checked through. Leave a larger margin when they are separate bookings.

Which OpenSim plan covers both Australia and Indonesia?

The Asia 20 Areas destination currently includes both countries. Australia and Indonesia country plans are alternatives when data is needed mainly in one destination.

Sources and the next route check

Melbourne Airport is the primary source for the October 19 start, four-weekly pattern, operating days, aircraft, checked allowance and route context. TransNusa's own baggage, web check-in and carriage pages support the passenger rules. Current timetable and tracking pages are used only to identify the date split and conflicting startup times, not to claim a completed flight.

Review this guide after the first 8B18 and 8B19 services have a confirmed operating record, after the October 25 schedule change, and again before the listed November 16 frequency increase. Update it sooner if TransNusa changes the route, flight numbers, times, frequency, baggage, check-in or connection terms.
