Trip.com adds a free 500MB eSIM to selected UK flight bookings

Trip.com will automatically issue a complimentary 500MB eSIM valid for one day with eligible flight tickets booked from September 9 through September 11, 2026. The flight must depart from the United Kingdom for mainland China, Japan or Thailand.

Both one-way and return bookings qualify under the published terms, and there is no restriction on the travel date. The useful limit is the allowance: 500MB for one day is an arrival connection, not a full-trip data plan for most holidays.

The traveler answer: book an eligible flight during the three-day window and wait for the ticket to be issued. Trip.com says the eSIM voucher follows automatically. Roaming eSIM has the stronger full-trip fit when you need more than one day, want to compare named plan fields before the flight purchase or need a separate option that is not tied to a qualifying ticket.

Which Trip.com flight bookings qualify?

The route must match the offer. A flight from another country, a connection booked without an eligible UK departure or a ticket to another destination is not established as qualifying by the UK terms.

The overall Chase the Sun campaign begins on September 4, but the free flight-linked eSIM window does not begin until September 9. Booking earlier because the campaign page is already live will not satisfy the published eSIM dates.

The voucher arrives after ticket issuance

Trip.com says no separate claim is required. The voucher is issued automatically once the flight ticket is issued.

That distinction matters when a booking initially shows as processing. A payment confirmation is not always the same as ticket issuance. Wait for the ticket and voucher records, then contact Trip.com support if an eligible issued ticket has no eSIM benefit.

The campaign page does not publish the partner network, expected speed, hotspot permission, phone-number features, top-up route or reduced-speed behavior after 500MB. Check the voucher's product page before depending on any of those features.

Activation should wait for the covered destination

The campaign establishes one day from activation but does not give a detailed installation sequence. Trip.com's separate eSIM benefit guidance says an activation email contains the QR code and advises enabling the eSIM and data roaming at the destination.

It also warns that turning on a profile outside its covered countries can invalidate it or start its usage time early. Read the voucher instructions before switching the line on. Installation and activation are not always the same event, but the selected product controls.

For mainland China, do not assume the free profile changes which apps or sites are reachable. The campaign does not publish its traffic-routing behavior. Save essential addresses and booking details offline, and verify any app-access requirement from the actual eSIM card.

The separate £1 eSIM drop is not the free flight benefit

The same campaign lists 105 eSIM codes priced at £1 for China, the EU, Japan, Thailand and Turkey. Those codes are scheduled from September 9 at 23:00 through September 11 at 23:59, subject to limited quantities.
