The safest plan is to reach the stadium area early, use the free matchday transport included with a valid mobile ticket and avoid any return journey that depends on catching one final connection.

The difficult part is after the match. A normal-time game and ceremony may run until about 23:30, and penalties can push the exit later. Salzburg Airport does not operate overnight, while late trains beyond Salzburg are limited. Supporters staying in Munich, Vienna or another distant city need to verify the last workable journey and keep an overnight fallback.

Follow the entrance printed in the app. The stadium has no re-entry, so finish any meal and collect everything you need before the ticket scan.

You are going to Salzburg without a match ticket

Do not travel on the assumption that a resale ticket will appear outside the stadium. Use only UEFA or club-authorized ticket channels. Screenshots, social-media sellers and informal handoffs can fail without giving you useful support.

The official Fan Festival at Residenzplatz is free and open to all ages. It runs until 22:00 on August 11 and until 18:00 on matchday. Salzburg Tourism also lists a free match broadcast at Residenzplatz. Check the city event page before setting out because capacity and security controls can change.

You are sleeping outside Salzburg

Plan the return before buying a non-refundable room or transport ticket. Work backwards from a stadium exit after midnight, not from the 21:00 kickoff. A route that works after normal time may fail after penalties, a presentation and a slow walk to the platform.

If the final connection has no later alternative, stay in Salzburg or a nearby town that still has a verified local service. Salzburg's annual summer festival is also running, so accommodation demand is not caused by the football match alone.

A matchday timeline that leaves room for delays

Do not schedule a 23:40 departure from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof and assume the ceremony is optional. Even if you leave your seat quickly, crowd controls and the walk from Stadion Salzburg decide when you reach the platform.

Fan Festival and supporter meeting points

The neutral Fan Festival is in Residenzplatz in Salzburg's old town. UEFA lists football activities, entertainment, food and drink, and the trophy display. It is the useful first stop for mixed groups, families and visitors without match tickets.

All three locations are central, but they are not the stadium. Leave enough time for the shuttle or S-Bahn journey and security. The Fan Festival closes at 18:00 on matchday, exactly when the stadium gates open.

Stadium bags, bottles and entry rules

An A4 bag is a maximum, not a target. A phone, payment card, original ID, light layer and small power bank will move through the trip more easily than a full day bag. UEFA may still inspect permitted bags at the entrance.

Mobile tickets and resale trouble

The match uses the UEFA Mobile Tickets app. Install it, sign in and make sure the ticket appears while you still have reliable internet. Bring the same original passport or national ID associated with your booking details, especially if you may need ticket support.

Use the entrance shown on the ticket. A screenshot is not a dependable substitute for an active mobile ticket, and buying a screenshot from a stranger gives no protection if it has been copied or cancelled. UEFA and the clubs remain the authority for ticket transfer, resale and support.

If the app fails, do not keep reinstalling it at the turnstile. Move away from the queue, check that your phone has the correct time and date, restore data access and use the official ticket-support route. Keep your purchase confirmation and ID available, but understand that an email receipt is not the match ticket.

Getting to Salzburg

Salzburg Airport

Local buses connect the airport with Salzburg and are included in the matchday SVV offer for valid ticket holders. The airport is useful for arriving, but it is not an overnight post-match waiting area. UEFA states that Salzburg Airport will be closed overnight after the game and no flights or services will operate.

If flying out on August 13, book accommodation or confirm a legal overnight arrangement. Do not plan to move from the stadium directly into a closed terminal.

Munich or Vienna

Both cities can be practical arrival gateways, but they are risky same-night bases. Rail engineering, border delays, missed connections and the late finish all matter more than the headline journey time. Check the complete itinerary in the operator's planner and confirm that each connection runs on August 12 after the latest possible finish.

If the last through journey is too tight, travel to Salzburg earlier and sleep locally. A flexible morning train is usually a more robust plan than paying for a distant hotel and then relying on one late-night service.

By train within Austria

Salzburg Hauptbahnhof is the main interchange for the city. Match-ticket holders can use the included SVV network on August 12, but that does not make every long-distance ÖBB or international train free. Check the exact train and fare conditions rather than treating the stadium ticket as a nationwide rail pass.

Overnight visitors staying in Salzburg province may also receive a Guest Mobility Ticket from their accommodation. Ask the host what it covers and when it becomes valid.

Getting to Stadion Salzburg

There are three sensible public routes. Choose one before joining the central crowd.

City-center shuttle

The free shuttle leaves from Ferdinand-Hanusch-Platz from 17:00. UEFA estimates about 30 minutes to the stadium. This is the simplest option from the old town, Fan Festival and team meeting points.

S-Bahn to Taxham Europark

Take S2 or S3 from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof to Salzburg Taxham Europark. UEFA gives about five minutes on the train, followed by a walk of roughly 15 minutes to the stadium. This route avoids road traffic but still needs walking time and platform margin.

Park and ride

There is no public parking at Stadion Salzburg. Free P+R parking and shuttles are listed at Salzburgarena and Designer Outlet Salzburg from 18:00, with an estimated 15-minute shuttle journey. Check the current event map before driving because the correct access road and shuttle stop matter.

Taxis are not the preferred route. UEFA identifies a dedicated drop-off near Klessheim Walserweg, but traffic restrictions and demand can make a taxi slower than the shuttle. Do not ask a driver to approach the public stadium entrance.

Getting away after the match

The city-center and P+R shuttles run on demand after the game. S2 and S3 services are planned from Taxham Europark toward Salzburg Hauptbahnhof between about 23:00 and 01:30, with additional event trains. Those services help you return to central Salzburg. They do not guarantee a connection onward to Munich, Vienna or an airport.

Use this decision order:

1. Confirm the last acceptable long-distance departure and the platform transfer needed at Hauptbahnhof.
2. Keep the city shuttle and S-Bahn as separate stadium-exit options.
3. Save a local overnight fallback before kickoff.
4. If the match reaches penalties, accept that the distant connection may no longer be realistic.
5. Follow post-match signs instead of walking toward the arrival point from memory.

Agree on a central meeting point if your group separates. Stadion forecourts and station entrances can become difficult places to find one person after the crowd starts moving.

Accessible route through Entrance 3

UEFA recommends the accessible stadium shuttles. The east public-transport terminal is about 50 meters from Entrance 3, while Taxham Europark station is about 1 km away. Accessible stadium parking requires a prebooked pass and cannot be arranged by arriving at the public car park.

Accessible toilets are listed near sector 118. UEFA also lists sensory bags, wheelchair loan and audio-descriptive commentary in English, French and German through the UEFA Champions League app. Bring your own headphones and a charged phone. Contact the accessibility team before travel if you need parking, a wheelchair loan, a medical exemption or route-specific help.

Apps and information to save before matchday

Save the accommodation address, passport details, emergency contacts and return tickets separately from the match app. UEFA advises arriving with a charged phone, but a paper note with the hotel name and address is still useful when a battery fails.

Phone service at the match

An Austria Roaming eSIM plan can provide data for the mobile ticket, transport updates and group messages while your usual SIM remains available. It cannot guarantee normal speed when thousands of supporters are using the same local network.
