Whitby Goth Weekend runs from Friday, October 30, to Sunday, November 1, 2026. You can join free markets and community sessions, but evening music has separate venue tickets. If you are using the park and ride, the council currently lists the final return from Whitby Bus Station at 16:44, too early for an evening gig.

The official WGW dates put this autumn gathering across Halloween. Decide which music you want to hear before choosing accommodation: a cheaper room outside Whitby can become inconvenient if your journey home leaves before the bands finish.

Which parts are free, and which need tickets?

There is no single ticket that admits you to every event across town. These are different programmes and venues:

PlanWhereAdmission decision
Official Bizarre BazaarWGW trading venuesFree trading-area entry
Revenant community sessionsRevenant Lounge, Royal HotelListed free sessions; check the activity and age fit
Revenant live bandsRoyal Hotel, West CliffSeparate concert ticket
Tomorrow's Ghosts concertsWhitby PavilionSeparate festival or day ticket
Tomorrow's Ghosts marketPavilion exhibition hallOrganizer lists free entry
Goth at the BreweryWhitby Brewery, East CliffFree live-music entry; lineup and times still to be announced

Use the Little Black Almanac, linked by WGW as its official what's-on guide, to check the wider programme. A concert booking should name the venue, date and admission it covers. A Royal Hotel ticket is not a Pavilion ticket, and a free market visit does not reserve a concert place.

The WGW FAQ lists Bizarre Bazaar trading hours as 10:00-17:00 Friday and Saturday, and 10:00-16:00 Sunday. Tomorrow's Ghosts separately advertises its Pavilion market through Sunday at 17:00. Those are different closing times for different markets, not interchangeable listings.

Choose the gig by the actual lineup

Revenant's current programme lists these Royal Hotel bills:

  • Friday, October 30: Morning Star, Famous Monsters and Dhampyres.
  • Saturday, October 31: Aesthetic Perfection, Ward XVI and Fleisch.
  • Sunday, November 1: Fever Dream Kills, Green Fake and Blush Puppy.

The organizer links to Skiddle for Revenant tickets. Check the individual ticket's terms, booking fees and current availability before paying; a search result for a previous edition is not enough.

At the Pavilion, Tomorrow's Ghosts has The Mission headlining both Friday and Saturday with different sets. Friday includes *God's Own Medicine*, with Lol Tolhurst and Evi Vine also on the bill. Saturday has The March Violets and Tristwch Y Fenywod. The organizer also lists a limited-ticket Saturday afternoon conversation with Tolhurst.

Choose around the artists you want to see rather than buy the first event carrying "Whitby" and "goth" in its name. If two programmes appeal, check doors and set times before assuming you can move between them. Walking distance does not remove a clash between performances.

Free sessions for newcomers and families

The Royal Hotel's free community timetable gives a useful starting point if you are arriving alone or have never attended:

DateActivityTime
Friday, October 30Newcomer meet and greet12:00-13:00
Friday, October 30Mini Moshers, under-14s accompanied by adults14:00-16:00
Saturday, October 31Repeat newcomer meetup12:00-13:00
Saturday, October 31Horror quiz14:00-16:00
Sunday, November 1Spooky Bingo14:00-16:00

There are also evening DJ sessions in the lounge. Match your visit to the published activity rather than assume every room in the hotel is a free event space all weekend.

Revenant's family guidance welcomes accompanied under-18s to its evening events, with a parental advisory for lyrics and adult themes. It says under-14s may enter the ticketed live event free alongside a paying parent or legal guardian. Confirm the booking arrangement for your group; that rule does not automatically apply to other promoters or venues.

For another free music option, Whitby Brewery confirms Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1. On October 16, its page still said the 2026 lineup and further information were coming. Do not plan around a remembered band's old set time.

The park and ride closes before the night programme

North Yorkshire Council's current timetable runs through Sunday, November 1. The site is at the A171/B1460 junction, postcode YO21 1TL.

For October 1-November 1, the council lists:

  • Departures from the park-and-ride site: 08:15-16:30.
  • Departures from Whitby Bus Station: 08:29-16:44.
  • The car park locks 15 minutes after the last bus. There is no reopening service to recover a vehicle left behind.
  • Overnight parking is not permitted.

The current day fare is GBP3 for an adult or GBP5.50 for a family of up to two adults and two children aged 16 or younger. Confirm fares before travel.

This suits a daytime market visit much better than staying through evening concerts. A summer timetable or an old forum reply mentioning later returns is the wrong basis for Halloween weekend. If you want a late night, arrange accommodation within reach of your venue, suitable alternative parking, or a confirmed return journey before buying the gig ticket.

Do not interpret an empty space as permission to leave a car overnight. Read the terms of the particular car park or accommodation booking, including maximum stays and how you regain access after dark.

Can you stay in Scarborough or travel from York?

Start with the last usable return, then decide whether the outward journey works. A bus that gets you to a lunchtime market may be useless after a headline set.

Arriva lists X93/X94 between Middlesbrough, Whitby and Scarborough. Select October 30, October 31 or November 1 in the actual journey planner; Friday, Saturday and Sunday need separate checks. This guide does not promise a late return after the gigs.

From York or Leeds, check the Coastliner 840 timetable. Read the destination on the particular journey rather than assume every bus in a combined 840/843 listing reaches Whitby. Save the return stop as well as the outward one.

For rail, Northern's Whitby station page identifies the Esk Valley route to Middlesbrough. Whitby and Scarborough being nearby coastal towns does not establish a direct rail connection or a convenient late train between them. Check the complete itinerary, including changes and engineering notices.

An overnight stay in Whitby is worth considering when music is the main reason for traveling. Compare the full cost of the room and return arrangements, not the room price alone. Ask accommodation providers about parking and late access instead of assuming those are included.

What to wear, photograph and leave at home

Wear something you can walk and stand in for the day. You do not need an elaborate outfit to join a newcomer session or browse a market. Bring a weather-appropriate outer layer and choose footwear for wet paving as well as your concert plans.

The WGW FAQ asks photographers to seek permission before taking someone's picture and not use St Mary's graves or gravestones as photographic props. People attending for music or to meet friends are not a public costume display. Accept a refusal and keep entrances and pavements clear.

Check venue rules before bringing costume props. The organizer publishes a weapons, props and attire policy; do not assume an imitation item will be admitted. Its trading-area rules also exclude pet dogs, with a separate service-dog allowance. Ask the specific venue about access needs before relying on a general description of the weekend.

Build meal breaks into your plan. If you need vegetarian, vegan or allergy-aware food, confirm the current menu and preparation arrangements with the venue rather than depend on a social recommendation from another year.

Apps and a workable first visit

For Arriva journeys, use the official Arriva Bus app. For Coastliner, install the current Transdev Go app. Transdev says tracking and timetable functions are moving away from its old app; anyone with unused old-app tickets should follow its instructions before deleting that version.

A daytime first visit could begin with a newcomer meetup, followed by one market and a meal. Park-and-ride users should finish with the published afternoon return in mind. Overnight visitors can leave room for an evening gig without trying to cross town for every possible event.

Save ticket documents, your accommodation address and the return journey locally. Agree a specific meeting point with companions. Live bus information is useful, but a saved map and written departure time still help when a phone battery runs low.

Mobile data for visitors to the UK

OpenSim United Kingdom plans provide a defined allowance for maps, bus updates and messages during a UK stay. On October 16, the catalog listed 5GB for 30 days at USD4.76, with top-up available for that specific plan. Knowing the allowance and retail price can suit a short trip without depending entirely on venue Wi-Fi.

Check your home plan first: if it already covers enough UK roaming data, another purchase may be unnecessary. No data plan extends the bus timetable, reserves a seat or guarantees reception at every location.

Use the travel data calculator, check phone support and review installation timing before departure. Families adding a longer holiday can use the separate United Kingdom with kids guide.

Sources and updates

Checked October 16, 2026 against the linked organizers, council and transport operators. This page will be reviewed when final gig times, brewery details or festival-week transport changes are published. Use the dated operator timetable and your ticket's terms for the final decision.
