Wingo Bogotá-Puerto Plata flights: route guide

Wingo inaugurated direct flights between Bogotá and Puerto Plata on November 6, 2026. The airline is selling the seasonal route twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, through January 25, 2027.

The direct flight removes a connection for trips between Colombia and the Dominican Republic's north coast. It does not create a daily service: the exact departure time changes by date, and a missed flight can mean a wait of several days.

Original AI-generated OpenSim editorial illustration. It represents the route conceptually; it is not the inaugural aircraft, an exact view of Puerto Plata or Wingo livery.

The practical answer: Search the exact travel date before arranging a hotel, transfer or separate connection. Wingo's live calendar shows Monday and Friday departures, but the displayed time is not identical on every date. The first published season ends on January 25, 2027; service after that date is not yet established by the sources reviewed here.

Route status on November 7, 2026: operating and bookable for dates in the first seasonal window.

What Wingo has launched

The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Tourism announced the November 6 start, two weekly frequencies and a first season ending January 25. Wingo's live Bogotá-Puerto Plata booking page now shows dated BOG-POP inventory in November, December and January, with no inventory displayed for February when this guide was checked.

The inaugural report says Wingo is using a 186-seat Boeing 737-800. Treat that as the launch configuration rather than a promise for every departure. Airlines can substitute aircraft, and the live seat map is the better source for a particular booking.

Check the time for the date, not only the weekday

Wingo's live fare calendar shows both Monday and Friday departures, but current flight listings do not use one identical time throughout the season. That makes a single timetable copied into a travel plan unreliable.

Open the booking result for the exact date and read the local departure and arrival times. Bogotá is normally one hour behind Puerto Plata during this season, so do not calculate an airport pickup from the airborne time alone. Recheck the reservation and flight status before leaving for the airport.

Twice-weekly service also changes the risk of separate tickets. A same-day domestic arrival into Bogotá leaves the traveler responsible for delays, baggage collection and a new check-in when the flights are on separate bookings. Leave a substantial buffer, preferably an overnight stay, before a fixed cruise, tour or separately ticketed flight.

Read the fare before choosing a bag

Wingo includes one small personal item in all fares. Its current baggage policy limits that item to 40 by 35 by 25 cm and says it must fit under the seat.

A larger cabin bag is not automatically included. Wingo lists an optional carry-on at up to 12 kg and 55 by 45 by 25 cm; Go Standard, Go Plus and Go Extra include it. The first 23 kg checked bag is included with Go Plus and Go Extra, while other combinations require a purchase. Read the allowance shown in the final booking, because a low headline fare and a fare that includes the needed bags are different comparisons.

Buy any required bag before the airport when practical. Wingo says airport prices are higher, and size and weight can be checked at the airport or gate. Keep passports, medicine, valuables, batteries and the first night's essentials in an allowed cabin item.

International check-in has firm cutoffs

Wingo's international flight closing guide tells passengers to arrive three hours before departure. It says checked baggage must be delivered no later than 90 minutes before departure and the counter closes one hour before departure.

Free online check-in is generally available from 72 to three hours before departure when the passenger and itinerary are eligible. Some fares charge for airport boarding-pass printing. A completed online check-in does not override document checks, baggage drop, immigration or security.

Be at the boarding gate one hour before the scheduled departure. Wingo says boarding finishes and aircraft doors close 15 minutes before departure. Treat those as limits, not targets.

Complete the correct entry form

The Dominican Republic's General Directorate of Migration says its E-Ticket is mandatory for passengers entering or leaving the country. The official form is free. It asks for passport, flight and accommodation details, so complete it through the government link rather than a paid lookalike service.

For Colombia, Migración Colombia describes Check-Mig as a free online pre-registration available from 72 hours to one hour before travel. Its current service page calls it optional and intended to speed the immigration interview.

Neither form replaces a passport or any visa required for the passenger's nationality and purpose. Check current government rules for the traveler's own documents, including any conditions for a child traveling with one parent or another adult.

Plan the Puerto Plata arrival

Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) is between Puerto Plata and the Sosúa-Cabarete side of the north coast. The hotel name matters more than the destination label: a stay in Puerto Plata city, Playa Dorada, Sosúa or Cabarete can require a different transfer.

The airport's official taxi page says authorized SICHALA taxis are available from the stand at the main entrance on the first level. Confirm the fare and destination before leaving the stand. If a hotel supplies a transfer, save the driver's meeting instructions offline and give the provider the actual flight number.

Do not plan a long same-day road transfer solely from the scheduled arrival time. Immigration, baggage delivery, weather and traffic can all move the pickup.

Mobile data in Puerto Plata and Bogotá

OpenSim's live catalog currently has destination plans for the Dominican Republic and Colombia. The Caribbean 20+ areas plan currently lists both countries, which may be useful for a round trip that includes time on each side.

The catalog was checked on November 7. Open the selected plan before checkout to confirm its allowance, validity, supported networks, hotspot conditions and top-up eligibility. A travel eSIM supplies mobile data after network registration; it does not include an airline ticket, airport Wi-Fi or protection for a missed connection.

Ten questions about Wingo's Bogotá-Puerto Plata flights

Is Wingo flying between Bogotá and Puerto Plata now?

Yes. The first flight operated on November 6, 2026, and Wingo's live booking page shows later dates in the initial season. Check the airline's flight status for the day of travel.

Which days does Wingo fly the route?

The published pattern is Monday and Friday in both directions. The first season is scheduled through Monday, January 25, 2027.

Are all Monday and Friday flights at the same time?

No. Current listings show date-specific timing. Read the exact departure and arrival shown during booking and again in the reservation before travel.

Is the route permanent?

Not on the evidence currently available. Wingo and Dominican sources describe a first seasonal period ending January 25, 2027. Do not assume the route continues in February until the airline publishes and sells later dates.

What baggage is included in Wingo's lowest fare?

All fares include one personal item up to 40 by 35 by 25 cm. Carry-on and checked-bag inclusion depends on the fare. Read the allowance in the booking before comparing the total price.

When should I arrive for the international flight?

Wingo says three hours before departure. Its current rule closes checked-bag acceptance 90 minutes before departure and the airport counter one hour before departure.

Which Dominican Republic arrival form applies?

The mandatory Dominican Republic E-Ticket. The migration authority says every passenger entering or leaving the country must complete the free digital form. Use the official government site.

Is Colombia's Check-Mig mandatory?

Migración Colombia's current service page describes it as optional and recommends it to speed the immigration process. It can be completed from 72 hours to one hour before travel.

Where is the authorized taxi at POP airport?

Use a confirmed hotel transfer or the authorized taxi stand at the terminal's first-level main entrance. Give the provider the exact hotel or accommodation address, not only "Puerto Plata."

Which OpenSim plan covers both countries?

The Caribbean 20+ areas plan currently lists both the Dominican Republic and Colombia. Country plans are also available for travelers who need data on only one side. Recheck the selected package before checkout because catalog details can change.

Before booking

  • Search the exact date and confirm the local times in both directions.
  • Treat January 25, 2027 as the end of the first published season, not a promise of later service.
  • Compare the fare after adding the bags and seat choices actually needed.
  • Complete online check-in within the eligible window and keep the boarding pass available offline.
  • Arrive three hours before departure and respect the earlier baggage and counter cutoffs.
  • Use the official Dominican E-Ticket and Colombian Check-Mig pages.
  • Check passport and visa rules for the traveler's own nationality and itinerary.
  • Leave an overnight buffer before a separate ticket or fixed departure when possible.
  • Confirm the Puerto Plata transfer with the exact accommodation address.
  • Recheck mobile coverage and package terms before checkout.

Sources and updates

Wingo's live route, baggage and flight-closing pages support the bookable status and passenger rules. The Dominican tourism announcement and reports from the inauguration support the launch date, twice-weekly pattern, seasonal window and launch aircraft. Dominican and Colombian migration authorities support the entry-form guidance; Puerto Plata airport supports the authorized taxi information.

We will update this guide if Wingo materially changes the operating days, seasonal end, timetable, baggage rules, check-in cutoffs or route status. The issued booking and day-of-travel flight status remain the final authority.
