Aftershock Festival 2026: schedule, shuttle and bag rules

Aftershock Festival 2026 runs from Thursday, October 1 through Sunday, October 4 at Discovery Park in Sacramento. Gates are scheduled to open at 11 a.m. each day. The easiest low-cost route is usually SacRT: a valid admission ticket or wristband for that day gives you free bus and light-rail travel, including the special bus between downtown's 8th and K stop and Jibboom Street near the park.

The transport decision matters because there is no regular parking at the festival site. The official Cal Expo Park & Ride requires a paid shuttle pass for every rider, while limited independent Park & Walk lots leave about a 20-minute walk. Your return plan also changes by day. The final SacRT festival pickup is listed as 11:20 p.m. Thursday, 11:50 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11:10 p.m. Sunday.

The simplest plan: save your admission ticket, return route and accommodation address before leaving. Use the free SacRT connection if it suits your hotel. If you choose Cal Expo, every passenger needs a shuttle pass. Pack to the published clear-bag limits, register the RFID wristband and pick a reunion point before mobile service becomes busy.

Aftershock Festival 2026 at a glance

Aftershock is an all-ages outdoor event, but the organizer warns that the setting can include strong language, mature themes and behavior unsuitable for some younger attendees. Every attendee needs a full-price pass. Hearing protection is useful for adults too, not only children.

Build the music schedule in the official app

The official lineup includes My Chemical Romance, Tool, Limp Bizkit and Pierce The Veil among a much larger four-day bill. Artist names alone are not enough to plan the day. Multiple stages create clashes, and walking from one side of the grounds to another takes time when paths are busy.

Use the official Aftershock app to build a personal schedule, then take screenshots of the final version. The organizer says lineups and set times remain subject to change. A screenshot is a backup, not a replacement for checking the live schedule once you reach the park.

For a group, agree on three things before the first set:

1. Which artist is the day's non-negotiable choice.
2. Where to meet if people split between stages.
3. When everyone must leave the final set to make the chosen return service.

The third point is easy to ignore. Friday's and Saturday's late SacRT windows are longer than Thursday's and Sunday's, so one departure rule does not work for all four nights.

Free SacRT or paid Cal Expo shuttle: which should you use?

These are different services. Treat them as two separate plans rather than interchangeable shuttles.

Use SacRT when you are staying near light rail or downtown

Show a valid Aftershock admission ticket or wristband for that day to ride SacRT buses and light rail free. Printed and electronic proof are accepted under the published event arrangement. The special festival bus links 8th and K in downtown Sacramento with Jibboom Street near the south entrance.

SacRT recommends several park-and-ride stations for drivers who want to leave the car outside downtown: Sunrise, Watt/Manlove, Franklin and Roseville Road. Check the correct line and return station before parking. Downtown light rail runs on one-way streets, so the station used after the festival may differ from the arrival stop.

The free arrangement is usually the clearer choice for a visitor whose hotel is near a useful line. It avoids buying a separate festival shuttle pass and removes the problem of finding a regular parking space near Discovery Park.

Use the Cal Expo shuttle when you need predictable car parking

The official Park & Ride starts at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Boulevard. A pass includes parking and the nonstop festival shuttle, but each rider needs a pass. Do not assume one vehicle pass covers a family or group.

Service is due to begin about 60 minutes before gates. It continues during the day, with reduced frequency from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and Sunday and from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Shuttles are scheduled to continue for about 75 minutes after the festival ends.

This option can suit a group arriving by car, especially when the accommodation is not convenient for light rail. Keep the digital shuttle pass available offline. If it has not arrived within 48 hours of the event, the festival directs buyers to Front Gate support.

Save the last shuttle and train times for your day

SacRT has published different late-service windows for each night. Use these as planning cutoffs, not permission to arrive at the stop at the final minute.

The bus ride returns to downtown, then some passengers still need to walk to the correct light-rail platform. Leave a margin for the bridge, crowd controls, the bus queue and the downtown transfer. Sunday has the earliest final pickup and train times of the weekend.

SacRT says the event bus runs every 10 to 15 minutes during the busiest return periods, but a published frequency is not a guaranteed boarding time. If the last rail connection is essential, leave before the final possible festival bus.

Parking, rideshare, cycling and the Gold Runner train

Regular parking is not available at Discovery Park

Apart from limited accessible parking, there is no onsite parking. Independent paid Park & Walk lots are offered near Truxel Road and Mill Creek Drive or West El Camino Avenue and Natomas Park Drive. The festival estimates about a 20-minute walk and notes that it does not manage those lots. They open at 10 a.m., spaces are limited and overnight parking is prohibited.

Do not park in a nearby residential street because it looks open on a map. Use only a designated lot and save its exact address before entering the festival.

Rideshare pickup is south of the park

The main pickup and drop-off zone is near 500 Bercut Drive. From the Jibboom Street exit, cross the bridge and follow the bike path under Interstate 5. Confirm the active pickup pin only after reaching the correct side of the river. A driver waiting across the bridge cannot collect you at the north entrance.

Expect demand after the headline set. If the quoted fare or wait is unreasonable, compare it with the free SacRT bus into downtown before booking.

Cycling comes with a free valet, but the through-trail closes

The organizer provides a complimentary valet for bicycles, scooters and skateboards. It is scheduled to open about 90 minutes before gates. The separate bike-detour notice says the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail through Discovery Park closes from 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, September 30 until 5 a.m. Monday, October 5.

That closure does not cancel the bike valet, but it changes the route through the park. Save the organizer's detour before riding. SacRT buses hold up to three bicycles and trains up to four bicycles per car, while scooters and wagons are not allowed on SacRT buses.

Gold Runner passengers still have a final transfer

Gold Runner reaches Sacramento Valley Station at 401 I Street. The festival estimates the station-to-venue distance at 1.7 miles, around 35 to 40 minutes on foot, or about five minutes by rideshare before event traffic and waiting time. The train does not stop at a festival gate.

Aftershock Festival 2026 bag policy

The organizer strongly encourages visitors not to bring a bag. If you need one, the current published graphic permits these options:

Large backpacks, oversized totes, solid or mesh tote bags, diaper bags, hydration packs, solid or mesh drawstring bags, cooler bags and larger purses are not approved. The graphic explicitly says mesh is not treated as clear.

Entry uses metal detectors, and the festival does not provide storage for prohibited items. Leave extra screening time rather than discovering the rule at the gate.

Other useful packing limits include:

• one sealed water bottle up to 20 ounces, or one empty plastic refillable bottle
• non-aerosol sunscreen
• a small portable charger
• earplugs, sunglasses and a hat
• no metal bottles, chairs, umbrellas, hydration packs, laptops, tablets, selfie sticks or professional cameras with removable lenses

Complimentary water refill stations are available. A large insulated metal bottle is still prohibited even though refill stations exist.

Register the wristband and understand re-entry

Aftershock uses RFID wristbands, and the pass page says registration is mandatory for entry. A four-day pass uses one wristband for the full event, so do not tighten it on another person or assume separate people can use it on different days.

General re-entry is not allowed. The organizer lists exceptions for onsite campers with a camping wristband, qualifying Hotel and Admission packages, and a specified four-day VIP package sold through Costco Marketplace. If none applies to you, leaving for food, a charger or a forgotten jacket ends that day's visit unless gate staff approve an emergency exception.

Late buyers whose wristbands could not be shipped should bring the order confirmation and government-issued photo identification to the box office. There are box offices at both the Garden Highway and Jibboom Street Bridge entrances. Current listed hours begin at 9:30 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. Thursday and Sunday or 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, subject to change.

The site is cashless. Cards, supported mobile wallets and registered wristband payments are listed as accepted methods. There are no reverse ATMs, so cash alone is not a workable payment plan.

Camping is new for 2026, but the shuttle is separate

Some third-party planning pages still say Aftershock has no camping. That is outdated for 2026. The official campground opens at noon Wednesday, September 30 and closes at noon Monday, October 5.

A camping pass includes five nights, a vehicle pass with each campsite unless the product says otherwise, showers, campground services and re-entry between the festival and campground during event hours. It does not include festival admission or the shuttle between camp and the festival. Each shuttle rider needs a separate pass.

Car and tent sites are listed at about 20 by 20 feet, while general RV spaces are about 20 by 40 feet. Camping vehicles cannot leave and return during the weekend. Campers who need car access can buy a separate overnight vehicle parking pass, subject to availability, then walk between that parking area and the campground.

Check-in ends at noon on Saturday and Sunday. A late flight or road delay can therefore become a camping-access problem, not merely a missed set.

Accessible arrival and medical items at Discovery Park

Limited accessible parking is in a new location for 2026. It costs $50 per day by card, opens at 10 a.m. and is first come, first served. The driver must present a valid state-issued disability placard, permit or plate plus proof that it belongs to them. At the end of the night, vehicles may be held for as long as 45 minutes while pedestrian traffic clears.

Paid Cal Expo shuttle passes include access to an accessible shuttle. Before buying, contact the festival about the complete route from your accommodation, mobility-device needs and the correct entrance. Do not infer that every path across a large outdoor river park offers the same surface or assistance.

Prescription medication must remain in the current pharmacy bottle with the attendee's name, medicine and dosage. Bring matching photo identification and only the amount needed for one day. Contact the festival in advance for medically necessary food. The festival also directs breastfeeding or pumping visitors to the Info Booth or Access Center, while noting that the space is not private.

Weather, water and a full outdoor day

Aftershock is scheduled to run rain or shine, but the organizer may pause, evacuate or cancel for severe conditions such as lightning, high wind, hail or flooding. A forecast several days out can change, so use the National Weather Service or another official weather source on each festival morning rather than packing from a social-media screenshot.

Gates open at 11 a.m., which can mean many hours outdoors before the final set. Bring the allowed plastic bottle, use the free refill stations, apply non-aerosol sunscreen and wear footwear suited to standing and uneven park surfaces. Pack a light layer only if it fits the bag policy. There is no routine re-entry to retrieve it from a car later.

Save the Aftershock map and Sacramento return route offline

Mobile service can slow when a large crowd leaves at once. Downloading the essentials is more useful than relying on a second app that also needs a live connection. Put one reunion point near each entrance in the group chat and write down a contact number.

Using OpenSim during an Aftershock trip

International visitors may need mobile data for a digital ticket, the festival app, SacRT updates, maps and a rideshare after the final connection. OpenSim's public United States catalog currently lists fixed-data and daily plans for compatible phones, with the live plan page showing the current allowance, validity, price, network information and top-up status.

An OpenSim United States plan can be installed before the festival day while the usual SIM remains in the phone, where the device supports dual-SIM use. The useful difference from buying connectivity after arrival is preparation: the ticket, map and return route can be ready before you join the airport or festival crowd. It does not guarantee normal speeds inside Discovery Park, bypass venue rules or replace downloaded tickets.

Is SacRT really free with an Aftershock ticket?

Yes. SacRT says a printed or electronic admission ticket or wristband valid for that day is accepted as fare on its buses and light rail. Keep it available for inspection throughout the journey.

Is the Cal Expo shuttle free too?

No. It is a separate paid Park & Ride service, and every rider needs a shuttle pass. One pass does not cover everyone in the vehicle.

Can I park at Discovery Park?

There is no regular onsite festival parking. Limited accessible parking has separate eligibility and payment rules. Other drivers need the official Cal Expo option or a designated independent Park & Walk lot.

How early should I reach Discovery Park?

Can I take a hydration pack?

No. Hydration packs are on the prohibited list. Bring an allowed empty plastic bottle or one sealed water bottle up to 20 ounces and use the free refill stations.

Can I leave and return later?

Usually not. Re-entry is limited to the organizer's named camping and package exceptions. General ticket holders should carry everything they need for the day within the entry rules.

What is the safest way to avoid missing the last train?

Work backward from the final train, allow for the festival exit and downtown bus transfer, and aim for an earlier service. Sunday has the earliest listed final bus and train times.

Is camping at Aftershock available in 2026?
