Air India has previewed Vista Digital Platform, new software intended to connect its seatback entertainment with the airline's app, website, loyalty services and travel offers. The important date is not this week's announcement. Air India says deployment will begin progressively in the second half of 2027, starting with select new aircraft deliveries.
That makes Vista a future product, not an amenity to expect on an Air India flight booked today. The airline has not published the first flight, route, aircraft registration or complete feature set.
The practical answer: do not choose a current flight because of Vista Digital Platform. Check the aircraft-specific entertainment and Wi-Fi information for the flight you are actually buying. The repeated words "planned," "could" and "in the future" matter. They describe the product direction without promising that every feature will be active on the first equipped aircraft.
Vista Digital is not the same as Air India Wi-Fi
The new platform depends partly on connected aircraft, but it is not a new mobile-data network and it does not make internet universal across the fleet.
Air India's current inflight Wi-Fi FAQ tells passengers to look for the Wi-Fi Onboard icon in Flight Status or during web check-in. It also warns that availability can change at the last minute. Current Wi-Fi access, plans and Maharaja Club benefits are governed by those live terms, not by the 2027 Vista preview.
There is another naming trap. Air India already uses Vista Stream for wireless entertainment on a passenger's own device. Its current onboard overview says Vista Stream is available on specified aircraft and excludes some newer types that already have seatback systems. Vista Digital Platform is the next connected software layer. A reference to "Vista" in an older review or onboard card may mean Vista Stream, not the 2027 platform.

What could change for passengers
The clearest benefit is a more familiar interface between aircraft. Air India currently operates cabins with different screen systems, and public traveler discussions repeatedly ask whether entertainment or Wi-Fi will work on a particular flight. Vista is intended to give different hardware a more consistent software experience and accept over-the-air content and feature updates.
The planned companion app could let a passenger browse entertainment before boarding and interact with the onboard system. Cross-flight continuity could resume a film or programme where it stopped. Those features may be useful for connecting passengers, but Air India has not said whether they will require a logged-in account, a Maharaja Club number or a particular app version.
The proposed commerce-on-map tool is more than entertainment. Air India says it could surface experiences or travel services for places a passenger is flying over or plans to visit. Treat any future purchase on a seatback screen like another travel transaction: check the seller, currency, cancellation conditions, device connection and confirmation before paying.
The first aircraft and routes remain unknown
The official announcement says select new deliveries will lead the rollout. It does not name the first aircraft model, registration, route, cabin or flight number. Independent reporting based on an interview with Air India's technology chief says the platform is intended for new widebody deliveries, then other widebodies and Airbus A321XLR aircraft. That broader plan still does not identify a bookable Vista flight.
An aircraft type in a timetable would not be enough on its own. Airlines can substitute aircraft, and a model can contain several cabin or software configurations during a rollout. The defensible sequence is:
- Check the operating carrier, not only the marketing flight number.
- Review the aircraft and amenities shown during booking.
- Recheck Flight Status and web check-in for the Wi-Fi icon.
- After the Vista launch, look for an explicit Air India notice that the assigned aircraft is equipped.
- Keep a personal-device backup because a swap or equipment fault can remove an expected amenity.

Vista's announcement does not improve a flight taking off today. Current passengers should plan around the assigned aircraft and live services.

The public Roaming eSIM catalog returned 16 India packages on September 23, with fixed-data and daily options. It also returned Asia and global products that explicitly listed India.
