Airbourne 2026 guide: parking, trains and where to watch

Airbourne runs from Thursday, August 13 to Sunday, August 16, 2026, along Eastbourne seafront. General viewing is free. The main event site on Western Lawns opens from 10:30am to 5pm each day, and most flying starts around lunchtime. Saturday starts earlier at 11:45am.
The late change is important: the Red Arrows have cancelled all three planned Airbourne appearances after poor weather delayed their return from Canada. Organizers added the B-17 Flying Fortress Sally B from Friday to Sunday and the Conair Turbo Firecat on Saturday and Sunday. Some official event pages still showed the Red Arrows when this guide was checked on August 11, so use the latest organizer update and the daily flying sheet rather than an older lineup page.
The short answer: take the train if the route works, or book an official car park instead of searching the seafront. Arrive before the flying begins, choose a viewing area based on crowd tolerance, and save the return journey before mobile networks become busy. Stay until Sunday evening only if the 9pm fireworks and the trip home both work for you.

The Red Arrows are not flying at Airbourne 2026
Airbourne organizers confirmed on August 8 that the Red Arrows will not appear in Eastbourne this year. Poor weather in northeastern Canada delayed the team's Atlantic return after its North American tour. The RAF also withdrew the team from a planned Edinburgh Tattoo flypast and Lyme Regis Lifeboat Week appearance.
The event itself is going ahead. The organizer's replacement announcement adds Sally B, Europe's last airworthy B-17, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Conair Turbo Firecat is due to make an Airbourne debut with a water-drop demonstration on Saturday and Sunday. The current specialist lineup also includes the RAF Typhoon from Friday to Sunday, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight aircraft on all four days, the Royal Navy Black Cats, the Red Devils on the weekend and several civilian aerobatic displays.
The official flying lineup was still showing the Red Arrows on August 11. That page also warns that flying depends on operational commitments, weather and serviceability. Treat any static lineup as provisional. The official programme contains the preliminary order, and programme holders can collect an updated flying sheet each morning.
Pick the right Airbourne day
No day has a guaranteed sequence. Weather, aircraft serviceability and operational duties can change a display after spectators arrive.

Choose Sunday only after checking the last train or booking parking that remains open late. The Five Acres Park & Bus site is scheduled to stay open until 10:30pm on Sunday, with departures from Cavendish Place every 20 minutes until 9:40pm. The ordinary bus connection from Eastbourne station follows its published timetable and is not extended after the fireworks.
Where to watch Airbourne
The flying display line runs offshore between the Western Lawns and the pier. You do not need a ticket for the public seafront, but the view and crowd level change as you move along it.

For most first-time visitors, Western Lawns or Wish Tower is the easiest introduction because the information tent, military exhibition and food outlets are nearby. People who care more about space than commentary can keep walking east or west. Do not assume Beachy Head is a second display site. Aircraft may approach that way, but the formal display remains over the seafront.
Bandstand seating and hospitality are paid upgrades, not admission requirements. If you reserve a seat, check its entry rules and opening time separately. Bandstand seating is currently scheduled from 11:30am to 5pm on all four days.
Train, bus and bicycle travel
Eastbourne station is in the town centre and the seafront is walkable. Southern Railway serves Eastbourne from London, Gatwick, Brighton, Lewes, Hastings and other towns, but event-day services and connections can change. Check the complete return route, not only the first train.
On Saturday and Sunday, the official travel page says a queue system will operate at Eastbourne station from 4pm. Leave enough time to reach the platform safely, especially if a connection or final train cannot be missed.
Bus 3 runs between the station area and Winter Garden in Compton Street, close to the show site. From Brighton, routes 12, 12A, 12X and 13X terminate at The Beacon during the event. Route 99 from Hastings terminates in Gildredge Road. Seafront closures mean these buses do not use their normal pier stops.
Cyclists can use National Cycle Network Route 21 and the free cycle parks at Howard Square and Wilmington Square. Bicycles are not allowed inside the main Airbourne site, so lock the bike before entering Western Lawns.
Airbourne 2026 parking options
Driving to the seafront without a booked plan is the weakest option. Road closures remove convenient spaces, and a current Eastbourne Reddit thread warns that the town becomes extremely congested during the show.
These official prices and times were checked on August 11. Booking fees can apply, and all three event parking options are card only.

On-the-day prices are currently GBP 27 at Five Acres and Beachy Head, and GBP 45 at King Edward's Parade. Each fee includes an official programme and pin badge while stocks last. Five Acres bus fares are listed as GBP 5 for an adult day ticket, GBP 2.50 for a child and GBP 12 for a family of two adults and up to three children.
Five Acres buses run to and from Cavendish Place. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, buses depart the Sovereign Centre forecourt from 10am and return from Cavendish Place about every 20 minutes until 7:30pm. On Sunday, return buses are scheduled until 9:40pm.
The designated disabled parking area is on Devonshire Place between Grand Parade and Memorial Roundabout, postcode BN21 4AJ. It operates from 8am to 6:30pm and is first come, first served. Trinity Place has a limited number of disabled spaces as well. A Blue Badge does not make a closed seafront road available, so check the official map before setting out.
Road closures change pickup and departure plans
Several seafront closures began on August 10 and continue beyond the final display. King Edward's Parade, Grand Parade, Marine Parade and sections around Wilmington Square are among the affected roads. More closures around Devonshire Place, Cavendish Place, Ascot Close and Wartling Road begin on August 12.
The useful consequence is simple: a taxi or rideshare driver may not be able to reach the curb that appears closest on the map. Pick a meeting point outside the closure, then share the exact street name. The official travel page says taxis cannot use the closed roads and should collect from side streets.
Save the current road-closure list before travelling. A screenshot is more useful than an old map when the mobile network is busy.
What to bring, and what to leave at home
The public viewing area is an open seafront rather than a ticketed arena with one security gate. The organizer does not publish a general bag-size limit for the public beach and promenade. Paid seating, hospitality, rail and coach operators can have their own conditions, so check the booking that applies to your day.
Pack for a long, exposed wait: water, sun protection, a light waterproof layer, hearing protection, a charged power bank and something suitable for sitting on pebbles or grass. Keep the load small enough to move through crowds and carry back to the station.
Barbecues are prohibited at the airshow. The site has food outlets and toilets, but the busiest periods can produce queues. The information tent on Western Lawns can provide the site map, flying updates and directions to facilities.
Families, dogs and accessibility
Airbourne welcomes responsible dog owners, but the organizer warns that the noise and crowd density can be uncomfortable for dogs. A Reddit visitor asking about campervan parking with a dog received the same practical warning from residents: accommodation and parking become difficult during the show. Leaving a noise-sensitive dog away from the seafront is usually kinder than testing its reaction beside a Typhoon display.
The organizer recommends hearing protection for babies, toddlers and anyone sensitive to sound. It specifically notes that the Typhoon is loud and that the sea wall can amplify the sound in lower areas.
Set a family meeting point before the first display. The official lost-person point is at Wilmington Square. Temporary first-aid posts are on King Edward's Parade, at the lifeguard station and at the Red Cross field medical centre in Wilmington Square.
Wheelchair users and anyone who needs a low-stress arrival should not rely on finding space near Western Lawns after lunchtime. Use the first-come disabled parking information above, check the official site map, and contact Eastbourne Visitor Services about a specific access requirement before travelling. The seafront is long, and a route that looks short on a map can still involve crowd barriers, grass or a steep slope.
Apps worth saving before the show
You do not need an Airbourne app. A small set of ordinary travel tools is more useful:
- National Rail or Southern for live trains, platform changes and the last workable connection.
- Stagecoach for local bus times and diversions.
- Met Office for coastal weather and wind changes.
- An offline map with Eastbourne station, the chosen viewing area, Cavendish Place and the family meeting point saved.
- A phone camera for the parking-zone number, return timetable and daily flying sheet.
Radio Airbourne broadcasts on 87.7 FM with commentary and live updates. The event also provides an official online stream, normally beginning around midday. Neither replaces the daily flying update when weather or serviceability changes the order.
Mobile data at Airbourne
International visitors may use mobile data for train changes, weather, road closures, maps, messages and the online stream. A busy seafront can still slow any mobile network. Download the return ticket, map and meeting point instead of expecting a signal to solve every decision.
