Way Out West 2026 guide: Stay Out West, bags and trams

Way Out West runs in Gothenburg from Thursday, August 13 to Saturday, August 15, 2026. The gates opened today, and SVT expects more than 70,000 visitors across the festival. Most broad guides can tell you who is playing. The difficult part is what happens after the main park closes.
Stay Out West spreads late shows across eight venues. Admission is included for eligible adult pass holders, but space is limited and entry is first come, first served. A festival wristband does not reserve a place at a club. If one late set matters, choose that venue before the final Slottsskogen act, check its capacity status in the official app and leave enough time to cross the city.
This page was checked early on August 13, 2026. The organizer, venue and VĂ€sttrafik updates take priority over saved screenshots because schedules, room status and transport can change during the event.
The short answer: collect your own wristband at Linnéplatsen, keep your bag within the organizer's current 40 x 40 x 20 limit, and treat Stay Out West as a separate first-come venue plan. Download the official Way Out West app and VÀsttrafik To Go before leaving reliable Wi-Fi. Save the map, ticket, hotel address and late route offline as well.

Check the official closing time, not an older summary
The current Way Out West FAQ lists Thursday from 14:00 to midnight, then Friday and Saturday from 12:00 to 01:00. Some secondary summaries still show a midnight close on all three days. Use the organizer's live schedule and app for the day you attend.
Stay Out West venues generally open around 22:00 and can continue until 03:00 or 04:00. Those hours do not mean every room has the same doors, set time or finish. Open the artist in the official schedule, then check the venue rather than assuming the whole club program follows one timetable.
The organizer says the app includes the full schedule, personal favorites, an interactive map, tickets, notifications and venue information. Download it before entering the park. The App Store listing showed a download of about 158 MB when checked, so installing it at the gate is a poor use of battery and crowded mobile data.
Wristband exchange is outside the entrance
The exchange point is at Linnéplatsen, just outside the festival entrance. It opened on Wednesday and remains open each festival day until around 22:00. Every attendee must collect their own wristband. You cannot send one person to collect a group's wristbands.
Bring the ticket and the ID required for the ticket category. Age checks matter because Standard and VIP tickets are 18+, while Youth tickets are for ages 13 to 17. A parent or guardian does not make a Standard ticket valid for someone under 18.
Do not arrive near 22:00 with an unexchanged ticket and a must-see set about to begin. Queue time is not published, and the exchange point can become busier before major acts. Save the ticket to the phone wallet or as an offline file, but keep the official ticket account available in case staff need the live record.
Stay Out West needs its own plan
Stay Out West is not one afterparty beside the park. It is a club program at Pustervik, Musikens Hus, Filmstudion, Bananpiren, Annedalskyrkan, Skeppet GBG, Folkteatern and the Gothenburg Concert Hall cloakroom hall.
Some venues are walkable from Slottsskogen. Others require a tram, bus, bike or a longer walk. The current public questions are mostly about this transfer, not the main festival gate.

The organizer says the app updates visitors when clubs are full. That is useful, but it is not a queue reservation. A room can fill while you are in transit. If two friends want different late sets, agree on a fallback meeting point and do not make one phone the only copy of the plan.
One independent guide suggests that booking Stay Out West may be wise. The current organizer FAQ says the club program is included with eligible festival passes and that single Stay Out West tickets are not sold. Follow the organizer and the specific venue page, not a generic planning sentence.
How early should you leave for a Stay Out West show?
There is no honest universal answer. Venue size, artist demand, doors and the preceding Slottsskogen set all affect the queue. Recent attendees are asking whether to leave one or two hours early for a small room. The organizer does not promise entry at any arrival time.
Use this decision rule:
- Mark one late show as the priority rather than trying to cross the city for several.
- Check its venue and doors in the official app.
- Compare the route in VĂ€sttrafik To Go before the last main-site set begins.
- Watch the app's venue-capacity update.
- Leave the park early if missing the show would spoil the night.
- Keep a second nearby venue or a return-to-hotel route as the fallback.
This may mean missing the end of a headline set. The tradeoff is real. A list that promises both the final park song and guaranteed entry to a small club is not helping you plan.
Trams and buses from Linnéplatsen
Linnéplatsen is the main public-transport reference point near the entrance. Trams and buses connect it with central Gothenburg and other districts, but 2026 summer track works have changed some timetables. The city's current transport guide tells visitors to plan in VÀsttrafik To Go and buy the ticket before travel.
Do not memorize a line number from an old festival guide. Search from the actual venue, on the actual night, after midnight where needed. A route that works at 20:00 can disappear or require another connection at 02:30.
For the return journey:
- save the hotel as a favorite before the festival;
- search after-midnight times on the correct calendar date;
- keep one physical payment card separate from the phone;
- agree on a pickup point away from the densest exit; and
- leave battery for the final route and room entry update.
The city says a Zone A adult ticket can also be bought by tapping a contactless Visa or Mastercard on board, but that method buys one adult ticket per card. The app is more useful when a visitor needs day tickets, route planning or several travelers' tickets.
Airport to Gothenburg and Slottsskogen
Gothenburg Landvetter Airport is outside the city. Airport coaches connect it with central stops, including Korsvagen and Nils Ericson Terminal, where travelers can continue by local transport. Buy the airport ticket through the current operator rather than assuming it is included in a city Zone A ticket.
A practical arrival sequence is:
- Check the operating flight and baggage status.
- Take the airport coach to the city stop that best fits the hotel or Linnéplatsen connection.
- Open VĂ€sttrafik To Go for the final local leg.
- Leave luggage at the accommodation or a confirmed locker before going to the park.
- Exchange the festival ticket for a wristband before the exchange point closes.
Do not book a tight airport-to-headliner transfer around an advertised bus duration alone. Flight delays, bags, coach traffic, the local connection and wristband exchange all sit between landing and the first stage.
Walking, bikes and scooters
Gothenburg is compact enough for some festival journeys on foot. Walking is often more predictable than waiting for a packed short tram, but the Stay Out West venues are spread widely enough that distance still matters.
The city operates Styr & StÀll rental bikes through the Nextbike app. A bike can make a cross-city venue move faster, but only if you know where to return or secure it and are fit to ride. Do not ride after drinking. For electric scooters, the city says riders must use cycle lanes rather than pavements, carry only one person and follow the local parking rules.
Crowd exits, rain and unfamiliar streets can turn an optimistic bike estimate into a bad plan. Save a public-transport alternative for every late ride.
Park closures affect more than ticket holders
Gothenburg City says the eastern part of Slottsskogen is restricted from August 8 to 18 for festival construction, operations and restoration. The rest of the park is not entirely closed. The zoo area, children's zoo, Azaleadalen nature play area, barefoot trail and Plikta playground remain open, while some buildings and services have separate limits.
That distinction matters if a family member is not attending the festival or if a walking route normally cuts through the eastern park. Use the city closure map instead of assuming every familiar park path remains open.
Bags, bottles, food and lockers
The organizer currently displays a maximum bag measurement of 40 x 40 x 20 and says bags are searched. Its FAQ does not show a unit beside that figure in the captured text, so check the live page before packing and choose a clearly small bag rather than testing the boundary.
You may bring an empty plastic bottle and fill it inside. Small snacks such as fruit or bars are allowed, but outside meals and drinks are not. Chairs and umbrellas are prohibited. The current list also excludes glass or aluminium containers, drones, GoPro cameras, selfie sticks, camera mounts, laser pointers, pole-mounted flags and face-concealing items outside normal health or safety masks.
Private visitors may bring a compact camera without interchangeable lenses. Professional publication photography requires authorization, and the organizer prohibits tripods, flash and other professional accessories.
Lockers are available outside and inside the site. The organizer says they can sell out and that some include USB charging. Pre-book through the link on the official locker page if the locker is essential. A charging port is a useful backup, not a reason to arrive with an empty phone.
Rain, battery and offline preparation
An umbrella is not allowed, so check SMHI and take a permitted hooded rain layer when needed. Slottsskogen is an outdoor park, and the organizer notes that natural terrain can become harder to move through at busy times. Weather also affects walking and bike transfers between late venues.
Save these before entering:
- the current festival map and personal schedule;
- the Ticketmaster record and wristband details;
- the selected Stay Out West venue and a fallback;
- the VĂ€sttrafik late route to both venues and the hotel;
- the hotel address as plain text;
- the locker confirmation, if booked;
- the emergency number 112; and
- a meeting point that does not depend on live messaging.
Mobile networks can slow in a crowd. Offline copies do not replace the app's live capacity update, but they stop one weak connection from erasing the whole evening plan.
Age limits and accessibility
Children under 13 cannot attend, including toddlers wearing hearing protection. Youth tickets cover ages 13 to 17 and allow access to the Slottsskogen stages except Dungen, but not Stay Out West. Standard and VIP tickets require the holder to be 18 or older.
The accessibility page says the main site has ramps at all stages and accessible toilets marked in the app. A companion or caregiver can enter without charge when required, with certification requested. The park's natural terrain can still be difficult at peak times.
Do not apply that main-site statement to every late venue. The organizer describes Stay Out West rooms as wheelchair-friendly to different degrees and asks visitors with venue-specific needs to contact it in advance. Check the exact room, route, doors and companion process before moving across the city.

Sweden's official Krisinformation service says 112 is for emergencies. Use 113 13 for information about serious accidents or crises, and 1177 for medical advice. The current emergency-alert guidance says a compatible phone connected to a local mobile network can receive SE-Alert messages without an app or registration.
Mobile data at Way Out West
A Roaming eSIM does not reserve a place at Stay Out West, make a tram run later or guarantee speed beside a crowded stage. Save the critical information offline even with mobile data active.
Its practical edge over relying only on hotel or venue Wi-Fi is continuity between places. On a compatible unlocked phone, a Sweden Roaming eSIM can be installed before travel and used for the festival app, club-capacity changes, VĂ€sttrafik tickets, weather, maps and group messages while moving around Gothenburg. The usual SIM can remain available for calls or verification messages if the phone setup supports it.
The public Sweden catalog returned 14 live choices when checked on August 13. Many listed combinations of 3, Tele2, Telenor and Telia, but the exact networks, 5G availability, top-up eligibility and reduced-speed rule vary by package. One small daily option was not top-up eligible while several other choices were. Read the selected card instead of assuming every plan behaves the same.
The site also publishes a 24/7 support hub with a WhatsApp route. Support can help with setup or connection questions. It cannot control a local network, festival congestion, venue entry or transport operations.
