The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta runs from Saturday, October 3 to Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Morning sessions happen on all nine days. Evening sessions run only on October 3, 4, 8, 9 and 10.

For a first visit, book at least one morning. That is when balloons can launch. An evening glow keeps the balloons tethered on the field and adds lights, drones and fireworks on scheduled nights, but it is not a flight session. If seeing hundreds of balloons in the air is the priority, allow two mornings because every flight depends on weather.

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta 2026 dates and best sessions

The organizer's detailed timetable starts most Dawn Patrol events at 6:00 AM and Mass Ascensions at 7:00 AM. Thursday and Friday's Special Shape Rodeos begin at 7:00 AM. Evening glows are scheduled for 6:30 PM, followed by later drone and fireworks programs.

Times can change, and scheduled inflation or launch does not guarantee that balloons will fly. Use the official event schedule for the day you attend.

Which Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta session should you choose?

Choose Mass Ascension for the largest flying program

Mass Ascension is scheduled for October 3, 4, 7, 10 and 11. The organizer describes it as a coordinated launch of more than 500 balloons that usually takes less than two hours. Wednesday's Flight of the Nations is also a Mass Ascension.

Opening and closing weekends carry the broadest program and the strongest traffic pressure. Wednesday gives you the same named flight format without a weekend date, but there is no Park & Ride service that day. You must arrange another way to the park.

Choose Thursday or Friday for special-shape balloons

The Special Shape Rodeo is scheduled on Thursday and Friday mornings, with Glowdeo sessions on both evenings. These are the useful dates if the character balloons matter more than seeing the main fleet launch together.

Friday is also Kids' Day. Goodie-bag distribution is scheduled to start at 4:30 AM south of the Main Street Stage. That early start is worth noticing before promising children a normal morning routine.

Choose an evening glow if a pre-dawn start will not work

At a glow, balloons remain on the field and illuminate their envelopes with their burners. The evening can also include a drone show and fireworks. It is easier to fit around daytime plans, but it should not be sold to children or first-time visitors as a balloon launch.

Saturday, October 10 also includes Music Fiesta. The concert area has its own ticket terms, so check whether the selected ticket includes park entry rather than assuming ordinary general admission covers the concert.

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta tickets and weather rainchecks

General admission is currently listed at $20 before the online fee for each morning or evening session. The official online total shown on September 12 was $22.24. Children aged 12 and under enter free with a ticketed adult.

A general admission ticket is valid for one 2026 session on any day. Park & Ride is different: those tickets are tied to the selected date, session and bus time. They include admission and round-trip transport.

The event is weather dependent and tickets are nonrefundable. If the organizer cancels a session, it reactivates the retained ticket as general admission for another remaining 2026 session. A Park & Ride customer must still buy a separate bus-only ticket to use the shuttle on the replacement visit.

That distinction matters when building a weather backup. Do not discard the original ticket, and do not assume the shuttle reservation transfers with it. Read the current ticket and raincheck terms before the event because prices and procedures can change.

Park & Ride, parking, rideshare or bike?

How the 2026 Park & Ride works

Park & Ride uses Cottonwood Mall, Coronado Center and Hoffmantown Church. The Intel lot in Rio Rancho operates on weekends only. There is no Park & Ride on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Morning buses leave the remote lots at 4:00 AM and 5:30 AM. Inbound service ends at 7:00 AM, which is when Mass Ascension is scheduled to begin. Full return service runs every 30 minutes from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by buses that stop at all remote lots until 11:30 AM.

Evening outbound choices from the remote lots are 3:00 PM and 4:30 PM, with inbound service ending at 6:00 PM. Full return service runs from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM, then all-lot buses continue until 10:00 PM.

Tickets must be bought online. The remote lots and buses do not sell them. The official Park & Ride page lists the current lots, fees and accessibility restriction for electric mobility scooters.

Driving to Balloon Fiesta Park

General parking costs $20 cash per vehicle each time you enter. There are no in-and-out privileges. The lots are color-coded, and gates are numbered. Photograph the lot name, color and gate as soon as you park. The official app also has a Find My Car function.

The organizer recommends reaching the park by 4:30 AM for popular weekend mornings and by 4:00 PM for evening events. That is an arrival target, not a hotel departure time. Add the route from your accommodation, road controls, the walk from the lot and security screening.

An RV may use general parking for a session, with the charge based on the spaces used, but it cannot stay there overnight. Use the organizer's separate RV accommodation process for an overnight stay.

Cycling avoids the vehicle queue but requires a dark route plan

The free Bike Valet sits north of the Balloon Museum, reached by a trail along the AMAFCA North Diversion Channel. Its 2026 operating hours vary by date, with morning coverage on all event days and midday plus evening coverage only on dates with evening sessions.

Morning riders arrive in darkness, and evening riders leave in darkness. The organizer specifically calls for headlights, taillights, a rear reflector and a helmet. Download the route before leaving and confirm that every rider can manage the distance, cold and return conditions.

How to plan around Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta weather

Balloons need suitable conditions at the field and along their possible flight path. A clear hotel window is not a launch decision. The organizer can delay inflation, keep balloons grounded for a static display or cancel a session for safety.

Build the trip around choices you can control:

1. Reserve two morning possibilities if a flight is the main reason for traveling.
2. Check the official app and event channels before leaving.
3. Keep the admission ticket after a canceled session.
4. If the first attempt used Park & Ride, budget for a bus-only ticket on the replacement date.
5. Put indoor Albuquerque plans after the morning rather than booking a rigid departure immediately after one session.

The official guide says mornings are generally around 40°F, warming toward 70°F by noon. The live forecast may differ. Wear layers, closed shoes, a hat and gloves when needed, then carry sunscreen and eye protection for the brighter part of the morning. Balloon Fiesta Park sits at roughly 5,000 feet, so travelers unaccustomed to the altitude should allow for more water and rest.

Bag policy, seating and security screening

Visitors may be screened with metal detectors, and bags can be inspected. Remove bulky jackets, blankets and other items that hide the contents before your bag reaches staff. That reduces the chance that everything has to be unpacked at the gate.

Outside food and nonalcoholic drinks are allowed, but glass, ceramic, alcohol and hard-sided coolers are prohibited. A soft cooler is permitted subject to inspection. Lawn chairs and blankets are allowed, but they must come out of cases or bags for screening.

Other prohibited items listed in the official 2026 Guest Guide include weapons, tasers, narcotics, drones, fireworks, noise makers, laser pointers, aerosol cans and dry ice. Check the full guide close to travel rather than relying on a shortened third-party list.

Seating on the field is limited. The organizer lists some benches, bleachers and picnic tables, but a general admission ticket does not reserve one. A compact chair can help, provided your transport choice can carry it. Electric scooters cannot go on Park & Ride buses.

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta with children

Children 12 and under receive free general admission with a ticketed adult, but the early hour is the main family constraint. For a 7:00 AM launch, families may be leaving their accommodation around 3:30 or 4:00 AM. Plan breakfast, warm layers and the next day's sleep before adding an evening glow to the same date.

The Balloon Discovery Center has hands-on exhibits and scheduled morning and evening hours. Friday is Kids' Day, and Thursday and Friday feature special-shape balloons. Those dates can be easier to explain to younger children than a competition morning, but every inflation and flight still depends on weather.

The current official pages say strollers and wagons are available for limited on-site rental. Community discussions give conflicting accounts of how much stroller space a Park & Ride bus has. Balloon Fiesta Park covers more than 360 acres, and the current FAQ describes the launch field as more than 80 acres. Hard-surface ADA parking is close to entrance gates, but it is first come, first served and uses the same $20 per-session parking fee.

The organizer accepts requests for a more visible reflective placard from visitors who already have a valid handicap placard. It also lists limited scooter, wheelchair, stroller and wagon rentals near the North and South Information Booths, with advance reservations available through its named rental provider. Courtesy shuttles operate along the park and into some parking areas.

Electric mobility scooters cannot travel on Park & Ride buses because of space limits.
