Asturias Awards Week 2026: free events and tickets

Asturias Awards Week runs from October 14 to 24, 2026, with free cultural events around the Princess of Asturias Awards. The next online booking phases open at 10:00 on October 17 and 18. Public rehearsal tickets have a separate box-office collection on October 17. These arrangements do not give you entry to the awards ceremony.
The Foundation's 2026 programme includes music, films, science and public conversations across Asturias. Patti Smith, Studio Ghibli and astronaut Christina Koch are among the interests represented. You can build a short visit around a few events without attending the formal ceremony.
This Asturias Awards Week 2026 visitor guide separates the booking routes and helps you choose events that fit the same trip. All times below are local to Asturias. Availability can change after a release; a published event is not a promise of a remaining seat.
October 17 and 18 reservations cover different events
The Foundation's October 8 programme announcement sets out three phases:
| Online release | Events covered |
|---|---|
| October 10, 10:00, already opened | October 15-18 activities and Patti Smith's October 20 concert |
| Saturday, October 17, 10:00 | October 19-24 activities, except the October 22 Messi event; includes Patti Smith's October 21 concert |
| Sunday, October 18, 10:00 | The October 22 Leo Messi event |
Use the official event calendar to choose a session and check its location. Do not wait until Sunday to try for a Saturday-release event, or assume the October 20 Patti Smith concert is part of the October 17 release.
The programme spans several towns. An event title alone is not enough for planning: record the date, city, venue and access condition together before reserving accommodation.
How the virtual queue and free booking work
The official booking guide describes a pre-queue from 09:45 to 10:01. People in that window receive a randomized order; those connecting after 10:01 join the back. Once your turn arrives, you have ten minutes to complete registration.
Create or check your account beforehand. During booking, select the event's ticket option and the session or quantity, then continue through confirmation. A seat selection is not secured merely by clicking the seat: you must continue to the next stage. Check for the confirmation email or the ticket in your account.
Most events allow two tickets per person; family events allow four. The interface can use purchase-style wording even though these cultural activities are free. Follow the Foundation's own links rather than paying someone who claims to bypass its queue.
The visitor FAQ says there are no waiting lists in 2026. Cancellations may release places, but do not base a non-refundable trip on that possibility. Cancel unwanted bookings at least two hours before the event; otherwise the Foundation says it will cancel the same holder's other programme bookings.
Public rehearsal tickets: collect them at the auditorium
The Foundation announced 1,200 seats for the public dress rehearsal of the awards concert. The October 14 rehearsal notice gives these arrangements:
- Collection: Saturday, October 17, at the Auditorio Príncipe Felipe box office in Oviedo, 09:30-14:00 and 16:00-18:00, or until tickets run out.
- Rehearsal: Wednesday, October 21, at 20:00, at the same auditorium.
The FAQ allows two rehearsal tickets per person, without platform registration. This is a physical collection process, not the online release for other events. Travelling to the box office does not guarantee a ticket.
The main concert and Teatro Campoamor awards ceremony are separate invitation events; applications have closed. Joining the cultural-events queue does not give you ceremony access.
Programme choices in Oviedo, Gijón and Avilés
The digital programme gives several evening choices:
| Event | Date and time | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| Patti Smith, *50 años después* | October 20, 20:00 | Teatro Jovellanos, Gijón |
| Christina Koch, *Elegir la Tierra* | October 20, 19:30 | Nave Cañones, La Vega, Oviedo |
| Studio Ghibli, *El viaje de Ghibli* | October 21, 19:30 | Centro Niemeyer auditorium, Avilés |
| Patti Smith, *50 años después* | October 21, 21:00 | La Vega, Oviedo |
All four require registration. The Ghibli conversation lists studio president Kenichi Yoda; do not assume an unlisted director will attend. The Koch conversation concerns human space exploration.
Choose one main evening rather than treating these as a checklist. The October 20 Koch and Patti Smith events are in different cities and begin half an hour apart. On October 21, leave the Avilés conversation's end time and onward travel unresolved unless you can verify both; a 21:00 start elsewhere is not evidence that the connection works.
Some school visits and professional meetings are restricted, despite appearing alongside public events. Check screening language separately: a familiar film title does not establish English audio or subtitles.
Can the public register for the Messi event?
Yes. The Foundation's October 7 Messi announcement explicitly allows general public registration from October 18 at 10:00. The event is at the Palacio de los Deportes in Oviedo on October 22 at 17:30.
It is primarily aimed at children and young people, especially participating schools. A place at this educational event is not a promise of an autograph, photograph or individual meeting. Read the booking conditions for your group before committing to travel solely for it.
La Vega entrance and access checks
The Foundation directs visitors to Calle Marcelino Fernández and says La Vega has no on-site parking. Its FAQ describes NaviLens signage and adapted entrances and toilets, but some industrial areas have limited or no accessibility. Ask about the specific event space if step-free access is essential.
Opening hours vary by date. An evening concert does not mean the whole site remains open for unrestricted exhibition visits beforehand. Keep the event confirmation and venue address together, and allow time to find the correct building after entering.
Paper or digital tickets need a readable QR code or barcode. Save the ticket itself and keep its code private.
Pick a base around your confirmed evening
For a La Vega event or the public rehearsal, staying in Oviedo reduces the need for an intercity journey after the performance. For the October 20 Jovellanos concert, compare a Gijón stay with the actual return service before choosing a cheaper room elsewhere. An Avilés booking deserves the same check.
This is a planning choice, not a claim that one city is better. A two-night visit with one confirmed evening and time to explore is easier to arrange than a different hotel every night. Leave arrival day flexible if a delayed flight would otherwise cost you the event you came to see.
For a longer family holiday, use our Spain with kids guide for country-level itinerary choices. The awards programme should fit the people travelling, including their tolerance for late evenings and time between activities.
Airport buses and journeys after the event
Aena's Asturias Airport bus information confirms Alsa services to Oviedo, Gijón and Avilés. It lists departures from the airport roughly hourly between 06:00 and midnight, while directing passengers to Alsa for exact times. Check your flight's actual arrival and the service to your chosen city, not just the airport's broad operating window.
Use the Renfe Cercanías Asturias page and its real-time service link for rail checks. Search the return journey as well as the outward one. A train that gets you to an evening event does not prove there will be a suitable train after it finishes.
Keep these details in the day's plan:
- The event's expected finish, if published, plus time to leave the venue.
- The correct departure station or bus stop, which may not be beside the entrance.
- Any interchange and the final departure for your destination.
- A workable alternative if that connection is missed.
Check the forecast before setting out, particularly for any outdoor activity. An indoor ticket does not remove the walk to the venue or the wait for a bus.
Keep tickets offline and journey information current
The Foundation's mobile calendar is useful for event updates. Keep your transport operator's planner available too, along with an offline map, your accommodation address and a meeting point. For NaviLens guidance at La Vega, follow the Foundation's accessibility instructions rather than assuming a general maps app replaces the signage.
For overseas visitors without suitable included roaming, OpenSim Spain plans provide a defined data allowance for checking a changed journey, accessing the event calendar and messaging your group away from hotel Wi-Fi. The public catalog on October 16 listed 5 GB for 30 days at USD 4.76, with top-up available for that plan. Recheck the selected plan and checkout price before buying. If your home plan already includes Spain, using it may be simpler.
Estimate your needs with the travel data calculator, check phone compatibility and review when to install an eSIM. Mobile data cannot improve your queue allocation, secure a ticket or extend a transport service.
Sources and changes to Asturias event bookings
OpenSim editorial team checked the linked Foundation, programme and transport sources on October 16, 2026. The dated October 14 announcement supplies the rehearsal collection details; the FAQ's older statement that a collection date would be announced should not replace that notice.
Review this guide after the October 17-18 releases and for material changes to events, access or transport. After October 24, treat it as coverage of the 2026 edition rather than current booking advice.
