Athens Marathon weekend is November 7-8, 2026, with the full marathon on Sunday, November 8. Collect your kit at Faliro before race day, hand in your finish-line clothing there, and choose your start bus using your assigned block. Spectators should plan a separate journey to the Panathenaic Stadium.

The route starts in Marathon town and finishes in Athens. Your outward trip is different from your return, and a hotel near the finish does not automatically put you beside the correct start bus. Sort those journeys before filling the weekend with sightseeing.

Which races happen on Saturday and Sunday?

The 2026 marathon-week programme lists these starts, in local Athens time:

DateRacePublished start
Saturday, November 7Telekom 5 km17:00
Saturday, November 7Universities Night Run 5 km20:00
Sunday, November 8allwyn 10 km08:00
Sunday, November 8Marathon08:30 opening start; individual blocks differ

The programme contains an inconsistent 08:00 line beneath its marathon entry, despite the 08:30 listing and spectator guide's 08:30 start. Follow your final runner instructions and assigned block time. The opening start is not everyone's start, and neither is a reason to arrive late for a bus.

This guide covers event logistics, not training or medical suitability. Follow the participant requirements and your own qualified medical advice.

Where do you collect your Athens Marathon bib?

The allwyn Marathon Expo and Runners' Centre are at the Faliro Indoor Hall & Exhibition Centre, the former Tae Kwon Do venue in Palaio Faliro's coastal Olympic zone.

Collection dayRunners' Centre hours
Wednesday, November 412:00 to 21:00
Thursday, November 510:00 to 21:00
Friday, November 610:00 to 21:00
Saturday, November 710:00 to 20:00

Keep a separate appointment for Faliro. A Saturday flight landing before 20:00 is not, by itself, a workable collection plan: immigration, luggage, travel and any queue still come afterward.

The Runners' Centre instructions require your bib-number email and official identification. A representative may collect with a copy of your identification and bib email, with a limit of four kits per representative. Confirm the documents before relying on someone else.

If the bib email has not arrived, the centre describes a Registration Confirmation Desk. That helps resolve an existing registration; it is not a way to buy an unregistered place on arrival.

Payment confirmation, bib emails and late transfers

The registration FAQ says bib numbers and starting blocks are emailed roughly ten days before the race. A payment receipt and a later bib email serve different purposes. If a paid registration is missing from your account, contact registration support with the transaction reference rather than assume a payment screenshot settles it.

Under the registration-management rules, the deadline for an organizer-approved runner replacement was September 25, 2026. Replacement requests are not accepted at the expo after that deadline.

Having someone collect your kit does not entitle them to run under your name. The participation terms make bibs personal and prohibit passing one to another runner outside the authorized process.

Before paying for a late travel package, verify its entry arrangement directly with the organizer and provider. An authorized package and an informal social-media bib sale are different things. Possession of a race envelope does not establish a valid registration in your name.

Your starting block determines your bus stops

The official marathon race page divides transport into two waves:

Assigned blocksBoarding windowListed boarding locations
Blocks 1-1005:00 to 06:45Syngrou-Fix, Syntagma, Panepistimio, Evangelismos, Katechaki and Omonia
Blocks 11-1506:30 to 07:45Ethniki Amyna, Cholargos, Katechaki and Nomismatokopio

Syngrou-Fix has an earlier last departure: 06:15. Individual block start times are indicative until finalized about two weeks before the race.

Staying near Syntagma? Once your block arrives, check whether you can walk to the assigned boarding point or need a metro journey first. Do not assume a central stop serves every block because an older report describes boarding there.

Save the stop and latest instructions. Ask your accommodation about an early breakfast or prepared option if needed. Leave time to locate the queue; the boarding window's end is a deadline, not an arrival target.

Hand in your clothing bag before race day

The race page says there is no clothing-bag collection at the marathon start. Hand in the official labeled bag at Faliro before race day, then collect it at Zappeion Alea with your bib. Keep valuables, identification and anything needed before starting out of that bag.

Published bag handover ends one hour later than bib collection: Wednesday through Friday at 22:00 and Saturday at 21:00. That does not extend the bib desk's hours. Complete both tasks while the Runners' Centre is open instead of relying on the later deadline.

Work backward from what you will need at the finish. If a companion carries something separately, agree where to meet. A phone or document packed for collection afterward cannot help you make the morning journey.

Where should spectators go?

The spectators' guide says stadium spectator entry is free. Friends and family use the stands; the finish track is reserved for runners and accredited staff.

It lists central vehicle restrictions on Saturday from 15:00 to 21:00 and Sunday from 05:00 to 18:20. These organizer-published times are not a promise that every road reopens simultaneously. Follow the final traffic notices and police instructions.

Syntagma, Acropolis and Evangelismos are the named metro approaches. Agree a precise meeting point outside the controlled finish area and save its map pin. "Near the stadium" is difficult to use when one person is tired and the other is watching a changing finish estimate.

Do not plan to follow the race by car or enter the course. For step-free access, confirm the station, walking approach and spectator area with the operator or organizer. Free entry does not establish accessibility.

Airport arrival, fares and useful apps

Athens International Airport lists Metro Line 3 into central Athens and onward to Piraeus. Check departures for your arrival time. Ordinary service hours do not guarantee an early race-morning connection to a start bus.

OASA's contactless-payment page lists Visa and Mastercard support, EUR9 for the airport metro and EUR5.50 for Airport Express buses. The EUR1.20 urban fare is not the airport fare. Check concessions separately and hold your payment card apart from an ATH.ENA card when validating to avoid double charging.

Two apps serve different jobs:

  • The official Athens Marathon app provides race information and tracking. Spectators can follow runners without logging in. Optional runner GPS tracking requires setup; without it, checkpoint information supports estimated progress rather than a continuous precise location. Listed minimums are iOS 16 and Android 10.
  • OASA Telematics provides local bus and trolleybus information. Check announcements as well as your saved route. It is not the organizer's marathon-coach booking system.

Download apps before traveling, save documents locally and charge your phone. Tracking is not an emergency-location guarantee. Agree a reunion plan that still works if a battery dies or estimates stop updating.

Mobile data for the race weekend

OpenSim's Greece plans provide a defined travel-data allowance for transport updates, messages and race-app use. On October 16, the public catalog listed 5GB for 30 days at USD4.76, with top-up available for that specific plan. Its practical advantage is a known allowance and retail price for a Greece trip, rather than relying entirely on finding Wi-Fi between journeys.

If your home plan already includes enough Greek roaming data, another purchase may be unnecessary. Buying data does not change registration rules or guarantee reception in a crowded location.

Use the travel data calculator, check phone support and review installation timing. Families extending the trip can use the separate Greece with kids guide.

A workable arrival-to-finish plan

For a Friday arrival, keep Friday afternoon or Saturday morning free for Faliro. Collect the bib and hand over the clothing bag together, then check the block-specific bus approach before settling on Saturday plans. Supporters can arrange their separate stadium journey.

For Saturday arrivals, calculate airport-to-expo travel before booking the flight. If timing is doubtful, arrange authorized collection in advance or contact the organizer. Do not leave a missing document until the desk's final minutes.

On Sunday, follow assigned transport instructions and leave the post-finish schedule flexible. A timed airport transfer or distant lunch booking adds a constraint when you cannot predict your finish time, queues or reunion.

Sources and updates

Details were checked on October 16, 2026 against the linked organizer, airport and OASA pages. Final runner instructions and traffic announcements take priority. This page will be reviewed when those arrive or collection, bag, access, app or transport rules change.
